The Atlanta rapper won three awards at the event, held in his hometown and set to air on BET Wednesday at 9 p.m. T.I. won for Video of the Year with "What You Know," Hip-Hop MVP of the Year, and CD of the Year for his album, King.

During his performance of the remix of his song "Top Back," T.I. was joined onstage by B.G., Young Dro, and Big Kuntry.

"You can't hate on hard work and talent," T.I. said in accepting one of his awards, according to the Associated Press. "This awards show will show people a lot about where I come from."

Houston's Chamillionaire took home two awards, garnering Rookie of the Year and the Alltel Wireless People's Champ award, voted on by viewers.

Grandmaster Flash was honored as the first recipient of the I Am Hip-Hop Award, and Flash took the opportunity to shout out other pioneering hip-hop DJs.

"To get an award for my technological ability means a whole lot more than anything else I've accomplished in my life," he said.

Common was named Lyricist of the Year, Jermaine Dupri won Producer of the Year, and Busta Rhymes won in the Best Live Performer category.

Ludacris, Jermaine Dupri, and Young Jeezy teamed with Lil' Jon to start off the night's ceremony with the 2001 hit, "Welcome To Atlanta." The Game, Snoop Dogg, DJ Unk, and Jim Jones also added performances during the night.
