Rappers show love in Times Square; Emo faves name next album; Outkast rapper preps solo album; UK rockers cancel tour with Panic! At the Disco.
The Game and Fat Joe: Love is the answer
With his sophomore album, The Doctor's Advocate, in stores yesterday, the Game has kept himself in the news in recent weeks through his ongoing beefs with 50 Cent and G-Unit and a separate squabble with Ras Kass. But although Fat Joe's new album, Me, Myself & I, hit stores the same day as his own, the West Coast rapper has nothing but love for Fat Joe.
The two appeared at Virgin Megastore in New York City's Time Square yesterday to praise one another and buy multiple copies of each other's albums. According to MTV News, the Game came from one corner of the store, Joe from another, and both emcees met in the middle and held each other's hands up like two champions.
"I need more copies. Get me about 10 more," Game said, standing next to Fat Joe and surrounded by fans, the media, and several kids dressed in doctor's scrubs (Doctor's advocates--get it?).
"We're here supporting each other's music," Joe added. "We touching the town. It's legendary; it's unity in hip-hop. I support the Game. His album is a classic. Y'all need to go out there and get that. It's like Christmas right now." "Joe is the King of New York," Game added. "We holdin' it down, going dumb on the album."
Fall Out Boy names fourth album, new single
Fall Out Boy is ready to reclaim the emo spotlight. The rockers have named their upcoming fourth album and plan to debut the first single from its at the American Music Awards on November 21 on ABC. Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz told MTV that the album will be called Infinity on High, and that it is on target for a February 6 release date. The first single is called "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race," and another album track is called "I'm Like a Lawyer With the Way I'm Always Trying to Get You Off." "We came in with 20 songs, but we're not ready for Use Your Illusion I and II yet," Wentz said. The single will hit stores soon after the awards show performance.
Outkast's Big Boi set for solo album
Although his Idlewild movie and album with Outkast partner Andre 3000 suffered a huge dropoff in sales compared to the group's previous record, Big Boi is going right back to work. The rapper told MTV News that he's prepping a solo album for release in 2007, and that Andre will be helping out with production on it. "You're going to get something from every genre, every funk, beat, loop, horn, whistle," Big Boi said. "We got it all on the record. I got maybe 35 beats already done for it now, so I'm just diving in and trying to carve out the pie with the vocals."
Big Boi also took some time to reflect on the poor sales of Idlewild, chalking it up to a label switch. "The thing that people don't know is that we were switched over to a new record label, going from Arista to Jive," Big Boi said. "And Jive, they put their best foot forward, but I don't think they really understand our music and know how to work our music. We're still doing what we did 13 years ago. If you listen to the Idlewild album, the quality of music is there. Everything is there. It's just a new system and trying to get used to things. But hey, we got songs for days."
Bloc Party cancels tour
After canceling several tour dates with Panic! At the Disco due to drummer Matt Tong's collapsed lung, Bloc Party has now been forced to cancel the entire tour. The UK rockers said that Tong sustained the injury while playing during an Atlanta performance and was rushed to a nearby hospital soon afterwards. A spokeswoman for the band said the injury might have been caused by Tong's "energetic drumming style."
"We would like to apologize to all of our fans here who won't be able to see us on this tour," frontman Kele Okereke said in a statement. "We were looking forward to playing in a number of American cities that we've never been to before, however, Matt's health is our number one priority right now."
Ticket refunds will be available at point-of-purchase and all ticket holders are advised to return their tickets within the next week.
