Pharoahe Monch, Smif-N-Wessun, and Dirty Heads join lineup for 20-city tour that features Raekwon, Redman, and Supernatural.

An already heavyweight hip-hop tour just got quite a bit heavier.

The Rock the Bells tour, an offshoot of the popular West Coast hip-hop event, said today that it has added EPMD, Ghostface Killah, Pharoahe Monch, Smif-N-Wessun, and Dirty Heads to a lineup that already included Ghostface's Wu-Tang mate Raekwon, in addition to Redman and Supernatural.

The tour, set to hit 24 cities in a month, will serve as a preview of sorts for new material from Raekwon, Redman, Ghostface, and Pharoahe Monch, all of whom have new records on the way. Raekwon's Only Built for Cuban Linx II is in the works, while Redman's Red Gone Wild is slated for a March 2007 release. Ghostface's More Fish hits stores December 12 on Def Jam, while Pharoahe's Desire comes out November 28.

The new additions won't be playing all dates. Smif-N-Wessum will be playing on all dates, while Ghostface will perform at nine of the 24 shows. EPMD will be performing at the Toronto show. California reggae-rap act Dirty Heads will join the tour December 8 in Park City, Utah. See below for details.

The tour kicks off tonight at 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, and finishes up December 22 at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California. Keith Murray has been dropped from the bill.

EPMD EPMD

On the surface, the sample-reliant productions and monotone rapping styles of Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith had little to recommend them, but the duo's recordings as EPMD were among the best in hip-hop's underground during the late '80s and early '90s. Over the course of four albums (from the 1988 classic Strictly Business to 1992's Business...

As one of the original members of the seminal '90s rap crew the Wu-Tang Clan, Ghostface Killah (aka Tony Starks) made an impact before he released his debut album, Ironman, late in 1996. Like all members of the Wu-Tang Clan, the rapper used the group as a launching pad for a solo career, which was assisted greatly by other members of the Clan,...

Raekwon Raekwon

Raekwon may not have achieved the solo stardom of his fellow Wu-Tang Clan mates Method Man or Ol' Dirty Bastard, but along with Genius/GZA and frequent partner Ghostface Killah, he's done some of the most inventive, critically acclaimed work outside the confines of the group. Born Corey Woods and also nicknamed the Chef (because he's "cookin' up...

Redman Redman

New Jersey rapper Redman made his initial impact with Whut? Thee Album in 1992. He blended reggae and funk influences with topical commentary and displayed a terse, though fluid rap style that was sometimes satirical, sometimes tough, and sometimes silly. While a member of the New York City duo Organized Konfusion, Pharoahe Monch developed a reputation as one of underground hip-hop's pre-eminent lyricists, crafting intricate and intelligent raps with partner Prince Poetry. For his third album, The Lex Diamond Story, Raekwon again evokes the gangsta mythology of his classic debut, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx (1995), while at the same time stretching out into new territory, to generally impressive results.
