Mary J. Blige started the week by picking up a whopping nine Billboard Awards.

Once again I'm amazed by all of the terrible things that got nominated. Over 50% of the things listed suck or are incredibly overrated (U2, Mary J. Blidge, Carrie Underwood, Justin Timberlake). No wonder, since it's all being backed by the recording industry.

Even for artists that do deserve to be nominated they picked the weirdest songs.

In any case, I'll be rooting for Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan.

I hope she wins them all.

When her debut album, What's the 411?, hit the street in 1992, critics and fans alike were floored by its powerful combination of modern R&B with an edgy rap sound that glanced off of the pain and grit of Mary J. Red Hot Chili Peppers Red Hot Chili Peppers

Few rock groups of the '80s broke down as many musical barriers and were as original as the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Creating an intoxicating new musical style by combining funk and punk rock together (with an explosive stage show, to boot), the Chili Peppers spawned a slew of imitators in their wake, but still managed to be the leaders of the...

James Blunt sought entry into the music industry upon finishing four years in the Army. The Dixie Chicks rose from relative obscurity in 1998 to become one of the most popular acts in contemporary country music. John Mayer John Mayer

John Mayer was one of those multiple-threat music talents that made most other players' lives and career paths seem simple. Indulgence has long been a way of life for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, yet they resisted the siren's call of the double album until 2006's Stadium Arcadium. Soulful British crooner James Blunt's wistful debut infuses the listener -- in order -- with rainy-day hope, the wistful comfort of unattainable love, and finally, world-weary resignation.
