Indie-centric festival marks its 15th year with a roster that includes Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Autolux, Sebadoh, Black Angels, Midlake, John Vanderslice, Josh Ritter, and Vic Chesnutt.

Noise Pop, the annual indie music festival in San Francisco, began taking the wraps off its 2007 lineup this week, with both veterans and up-and-comers in the mix.

Sebadoh Sebadoh

The festival, celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, will take place February 27-March 4 at venues throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

The early lineup includes a reunion of the original lineup of Sebadoh, as well as performances from Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Autolux, the Black Angels, French Kicks, Midlake, Clinic, John Vanderslice, Vic Chesnutt, Jolie Holland, and Josh Ritter, Earlimart, Ghostland Observatory, Hella, Macromantics, Pop Levi, Richard Swift, Seawolf, So Many Dynamos, and Okkervil River's Will Sheff.

The companion Noise Pop Film Festival, now in its 8th year, will feature Noise Pop: The Documentary, a film chronicling the eclectic festival's existence over the last six years and featuring a wide array of live footage and interviews with indie rock acts as they perform and hang out in San Francisco.

The event will also feature the two-day Noise Pop Expo, which will include panel discussions, a local indie trunk sale, rock poster show, and special acoustic performances.

Noise Pop is selling badges for $150 each on its Web site through January 15. The price jumps to $175 afterwards. Badges grant you access to all Noise Pop 2007 shows and events, including the opening-night party, after-parties, the Noise Pop Film Festival, and The Noise Pop Expo. Individual show tickets will be on sale at all participating venues and their online ticketing partners starting tomorrow.

Sebadoh Sebadoh

As much a collective of musicians as a band, Sebadoh was the quintessential lo-fi band of the '90s. Formed by singer/songwriter Lou Barlow while he was the bassist for Dinosaur Jr. in the late '80s, Sebadoh's music was a virtual catalog of '80s alternative rock and '90s indie rock, featuring everything from jangle pop to noise rock...

Ted Leo Ted Leo

For over ten years, Ted Leo has been one of the most progressive forces in East Coast independent music, with a unique combination of punk and folk, soul and hardcore, and tradition and experimentation. Originally rising to a small degree of fame in the late-'80s New York hardcore scene by playing with Citizen's Arrest and Animal Crackers, Leo...

Autolux Autolux

Los Angeles noise pop trio Autolux formed in 2000. Singer/bassist Eugene Goreshter met ex-Ednaswap drummer Carla Azar while collaborating on the score for Dario Fo's play Accidental Death of an Anarchist, and following the addition of former Failure guitarist Greg Edwards, the group made its live debut that summer at the noted L.A. area club the...

Midlake Midlake

The lo-fi rock quintet Midlake was formed in Denton, TX, in 2000 by a group of musicians who had attended the North Texas School of Music together: Paul Alexander (bass, keyboards), Eric Nichelson (keyboards, guitar), Eric Pulido (guitar, keyboards, background vocals), Tim Smith (vocals, keyboards, guitar), and Mckenzie Smith (drums). They...

John Vanderslice John Vanderslice

Growing up in Florida and Georgia before moving to Potomac, MD, at the age of 11, indie rock innovator John Vanderslice grew up listening to a mix of Led Zeppelin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Kinks, and Southern rock, which instilled an eclectic musical vocabulary. Forced into piano lessons as a child, he eventually picked up the guitar in...

Josh Ritter Josh Ritter

Over the clatter of piano and strum of an electric guitar that opens his fourth studio album, Josh Ritter leaps into rapid-fire lyrics that reference Joan of Arc, Calamity Jane and Florence Nightingale, all of whom seem to be stuck together in the belly of a whale. As the follow-up to last year's critically-acclaimed album The Animal Years, The...

Shake the Sheets is more of the same from Ted Leo. Tough, wiry, and smart, bristling with anger, hope, and fervor, the record is another much-needed dose of thinking-person's punk. Sort of an antidote to pouty, made-to-order girl punk and pretty-boy, mall-rat pop-punk, sort of a giant FU to anyone who acts like punk is a set of rules one has to...

After tenures in overlooked '90s outfits like Ednaswap and Failure, the members of Los Angeles' Autolux joined forces. The fruits of their labor have yielded Future Perfect, an album that triumphs as it defies expectations. Idaho-bred singer/songwriter Josh Ritter's V2 Records debut follows in the footsteps of 2003's Hello Starling only in instrumentation.
