Dylan reported upset at film portrayal
Bob Dylan can't wait to see the forthcoming movie Factory Girl, which chronicles the life of Andy Warhol's muse Edie Sedgwick and her tumultuous rise to fame and subsequent crash into drug addiction. But Dylan's primary interest is business, not pleasure. The rock icon's attorney has reportedly demanded that the film's distributor, Weinstein Company, cease all distribution and halt all screenings until Dylan can view the movie himself. The movie's original screenplay depicted an alleged romantic relationship between Dylan and Sedgwick and used Dylan's name. Although the character's name has been changed to "Danny Quinn" and the filmmakers contend that it is a composite of Dylan, Jim Morrison, and Mick Jagger, the character is painted as something of a scapegoat for Sedgwick's drug addiction and ensuing death from an overdose in 1971. Hayden Christensen plays the Quinn character, while Sienna Miller plays Sedgwick. "Even though Mr. Dylan's name is not used, the portrayal remains both defamatory and a violation of Mr. Dylan's right of publicity," Attorney Orin Snyder told the New York Post. "Until we are given an opportunity to view the film, we hereby demand that all distribution and screenings...immediately be ceased."
Reznor says he's finished recording new NIN album
Less than a week after confirming a forthcoming Nine Inch Nails live DVD as well as a collection of lullaby versions of NIN songs, NIN frontman Trent Reznor said today that fans can expect a new studio album very soon. In a post on his Web site, Reznor writes, "Is it possible I am actually finished writing and recording a new Nine Inch Nails record? Apparently so. We begin mixing in January! Juggling fifteen all-new tracks around. Testing sequences. No leftovers from "with teeth." Highly conceptual. Quite noisy. F***ing cool."
Fall Out Boy added to MTV NYE performers
If Gwen Stefani, Lady Sovereign, the Pussycat Dolls, Ciara, and Nas weren't enough to get you to head to Times Square for MTV's New Year's Eve bash this year, maybe Fall Out Boy will do the trick. The emo rockers have been added to the bill for the 90-minute show, which will also include sets from AFI, Chamillionaire, and Three 6 Mafia. The network has dubbed the event MTV Goes Gold: New Year's Eve 2007. More than 250,000 people are expected to descend on Times Square to celebrate the New Year.
Killers up for next Bond theme?
The Killers have been asked to write the theme song to Risico, the next James Bond film, according to UK newspaper The Sun. "The Killers have reached the perfect point in their career to do a Bond track," the paper quotes a source as saying. "They have the right sound, right look, and a huge fanbase, making them the perfect choice." Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name" is the theme song for the current Bond film, Casino Royale. Risico is slated for a November 2008 release, with current Bond Daniel Craig reprising his role as 007.
XM to play Tom Petty rarities
XM Radio subscribers are in for a treat this weekend, as the satellite radio service is set to broadcast rare and unreleased recordings from Tom Petty. The rock vet has been hosting the show Tom Petty's Buried Treasure on XM for the past two years, and XM has scheduled Highway Companion Big Weekend, a 72-hour Petty marathon of the first 44 episodes of his popular show. Petty was nominated for two Grammy Awards last week, grabbing nods for best rock album for Highway Companion and best solo rock vocal performance for "Saving Grace" from that album.
Yoko Ono, driver exchange accusations
One day after a longtime driver for Yoko Ono was arrested for threatening to circulate embarrassing photos of her and talking about killing her and her son Sean Lennon, the two were exchanging accusations in the media. According to the New York Post Koral Karsan said he was arrested because Ono was trying "to stop me from pursuing a sexual harassment case." But police and Ono have countered that claim, saying the chauffeur tried to extort $2 million from her to prevent him from publicizing photos he had taken of her "in private moments." Ono, the widow of former Beatle John Lennon, and Ono's security staff told detectives that the Turkish-born Karsan wrote her in a rambling note that he had secretly photographed her and made audiotapes of her and would make the material public if she didn't pay him, police said. Karsan talked about killing her, her son, and himself during a later conversation with one of her associates, which was recorded by investigators, police said.
