Coldplay posts retro holiday message for fans
In advance of the holiday break, Coldplay has posted a message to their official Web site, capturing the band dressed up as Victorian gentlemen--complete with thick mustaches--and dancing to rave versions of their songs. The short clip, shot in sepia, was filmed last week but was designed to be from 1906. Entitled Coldplay Dance Anthems 1906, the clip concludes with guitarist Jonny Buckland saying, "I would just like to wish you all a merry Christmas. I predict railways will be big in the future." Among the songs featured in the clip is a house remix of their song "Clocks."
Diddy's girlfriend gives birth to twins
Diddy is a daddy again. The entertainer's girlfriend Kim Porter gave birth to twin daughters today. "Diddy received an early Christmas gift!" Diddy's rep Robert Zimmerman told People magazine. "It gives us great joy to announce the arrival of Diddy's twin girls. The beautiful, healthy baby girls were born this morning with Diddy by mother Kim Porter's side. The first arrived at 7:56 a.m. weighing 5 pounds, followed two minutes later by the second at 5 pounds, 4 ounces. Diddy had a plane on standby in Toronto, where he is filming Raisin in the Sun and made it just in the nick of time for the delivery. Both Kim and the girls are doing great." Diddy, 37, and Porter, 36, are already parents to son Christian, 8, while Diddy also has a son, Justin, 12, with ex-girlfriend Misa Hylton-Brim.
Kid Rock heading to Iraq
Not one to wallow in the post-breakup blues, Kid Rock is heading to Iraq to entertain the troops over the holidays. He's doing so without the accompaniment of camera crews and media throngs that follow most celebrities on goodwill missions. "This year for Christmas I wanted to make sure somebody was thanking our troops for their service, no matter what our views are on the current situation in Iraq," he said in a statement. "I could be spending Christmas with my family, but in my heart I know this is the right thing to do--not only for our men and women in service, but also to set an unselfish example for my son and send a strong message to the world to be thankful and think of others at Christmas time."
Monkeys reported to work with Dizzee Rascal
At work on the follow-up to their smash debut album, Arctic Monkeys are reportedly set to collaborate with British grime rapper Dizzee Rascal. The Sun reported this week that Monkeys frontman Alex Turner was meeting wit Dizzee this week to talk about collaborating. "The Monkeys wanted to surprise people with the album," the paper quotes a source as saying. "It was the lads' idea to see Dizzee in his studio to speak to him about working on a few tracks. The band has always done whatever they wanted--the record company have been really good at giving them pretty much a free rein. If Alex thinks it will work then why not give it a go? It is a bit of a risk but then they've never been bothered about conforming to the norm."
McKnight to join LA morning show
Los Angeles-based CBS affiliate KTWV (The Wave) said today that it has hired Grammy-winning R&B singer Brian McKnight as a cohost of its morning show. "Brian McKnight is an amazing superstar whose mass appeal casts a really wide net for the Wave," KTWV exec Dan Weiner said in a statement. "His week of guest hosting was all we needed to know that his talent would not only super-serve our core but also help draw in an entirely new audience who follow his music across many different formats than just smooth jazz."
