Britney & K-Fed to share custody
Though they won't likely be up for any sort of parenting awards anytime soon, Britney Spears and Kevin Federline will share custody of their two young children through the end of the month. The pop star and her estranged would-be rapper husband have come to an agreement for Spears to retain custody and allow Federline to visit them at Spears' home from noon to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, according to court papers filed Friday. The deal stipulates that Spears, 25, will use her "best efforts to ensure that no third party visiting the home" interferes with Federline's time with the children. The Superior Court document said Federline wants only Spears, her assistant, the children's nanny, and other household staff to be allowed in the home during his visits, but the couple had not reached agreement on that request.
Spears filed for divorce from Federline in November after two years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. The 28-year-old former backup dancer and aspiring rapper counter-filed, seeking spousal support and custody of the children, 16-month-old Sean Preston Federline and 4-month-old Jayden James Federline.
GM unveils concept GMC Yukon Denali SUV
Jay-Z continues to expand his branding empire, unveiling a concept GMC Yukon Denali SUV onstage Saturday during an event thrown by General Motors Corp. on the eve of this week's North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The SUV is painted a reflective blue color dubbed "Jay-Z Blue." "Hopefully I'll be able to drive one of them out of here tonight," Jay-Z told the Associated Press. The car was part of a celebrity-filled party in which stars escorted new cars down a brightly lit catwalk inside a massive tent along the Detroit River. Posing with the vehicles were Carmen Electra, Jennifer Hudson, Vivica A. Fox, Rosie Perez, Christian Slater, Mario Lopez, and Nick Lachey.
Beyonce hunts for dancers, preps Spanish release
A fleet of aspiring dancers gathered in Houston last week in the hopes of joining Beyonce's dance troupe. The singer has been holding a nationwide talent search for 40 open slots for dancers, with hopefuls moving through choreographed routines to such Beyonce hits as "Déjà vu." Cameras record their footwork, and Frank Gaston studies their style, the choreographer told the Associated Press. Houston was the third location in the cross-country search, following auditions in Atlanta and Los Angeles. After two more stops, in New York and Chicago, Gaston and Beyonce will review the tapes. There will be 30 finalists from each city. The finalists get a trip to either New York or Los Angeles, where the numbers will be pared to the final 40. The selected dancers will earn $1,500 to $3,000 a week and get extensive exposure at Beyonce's performances. Gaston choreographs Beyonce's videos and has worked with En Vogue and Toni Braxton.
Beyonce is also reportedly set to rerelease her B'Day album with four Spanish tracks, riding the success of her Spanish-language version of her smash hit "Irreplaceable." The R&B starlet told Univision of her plans, which include a new song, "Beautiful Liar," a duet with Shakira.
Dave Matthews to appear on House
Looking to expand its audience into the Big Johnson T-shirt crowd, much-acclaimed Fox medical drama House has tapped Dave Matthews to appear in an upcoming episode. Matthews will play a man who was hit by a bus when he was 10 years old and thus becomes a savant who plays piano like a master but is prone to having seizures. Dr. House is brought into the mix when Matthews begins having seizures and his father must decide whether to cure his impairment, which means losing his musical talent. Matthews appeared in the movie Because of Winn-Dixie and has a role alongside Sissy Spacek and Troy Garity in the upcoming movie Lake City. The episode airs in March.
Bacharach daughter commits suicide
Nikki Bacharach, daughter of legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach and actress Angie Dickinson, committed suicide, a spokesman for the family told the Associated Press over the weekend. Nikki Bacharach, 40, suffered from Asperger's Disorder, a form of autism. She killed herself Thursday night at her condo, said Linda Dozoretz, a spokeswoman for the family. "She quietly and peacefully committed suicide to escape the ravages to her brain brought on by Asperger's," the statement said. The Venture County coroner's office said Nikki Bacharach died of suffocation using a plastic bag and helium. Born prematurely in 1966, Lea Nikki Bacharach studied geology at Cal Lutheran University but could not pursue a career in the field because of poor eyesight. Nikki Bacharach was the only child of Bacharach, 77, and Dickinson, 75, who were married from 1965 to 1981.
