Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts nab two awards apiece, while Chesney, Timberlake, Nickelback, Eminem, Shakira, and Bon Jovi also receive honors.
Country stars Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts garnered top music honors last night at the 33rd annual People's Choice Awards in Los Angeles, landing country music five of the night's 10 music awards.
Underwood nabbed the awards for best female singer and top country song for "Before He Cheats."
Rascal Flatts--the trio of Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus, and Joe Don Rooney--scored top song in a movie for their cover of "Life Is a Highway" for the Pixar-animated movie Cars. The same song also scored top cover song of the year.
Country singer Kenny Chesney nabbed top male singer honors, while Canadian rock band Nickelback came away with best group. Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack" won top R&B song, while Eminem's "Shake That" featuring Akon won top hip-hop song.
Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie" featuring Wyclef Jean was honored as best pop song, while Bon Jovi's "Who Says You Can't Go Home" landed best rock song.
The CBS show from the Shrine Auditorium was hosted by Queen Latifah. Winners were picked by public Internet balloting.
The event also honored stars in movie and TV categories. Pirates of the Caribbean won top movie honors, with Johnny Depp picking up three awards for his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in the film.
Grey's Anatomy won for top drama, while Two and a Half Men won for best comedy. Acclaimed NBC drama Heroes won for top new drama.
