As producer leaves North Carolina-based hip-hop group, rappers also say they are in talks to cut ties with Atlantic Records.
Little Brother is officially a duo.
The North Carolina-based hip-hop group confirmed today that it has parted ways with founding producer 9th Wonder, saying the split comes with "no hard feelings."
"This is just a decision that had to be made so all three of us could move forward and continue to provide the world with dope music," rapper Pooh told HipHopGame.
9th Wonder's departure had been rumored in recent months, particularly as his work outside the group with Buckshot, Jean Grae, and Murs has increased. Little Brother's forthcoming album, Get Back, features production from the likes of DJ Premier, Alchemist, and Just Blaze. It is set to hits stores later this year.
But a divorce from its founding producer isn't the only split Little Brother rappers Pooh and Phonte have on their minds.
Group manager Big Dho told the site that the duo is in talks to split from its label, Atlantic Records.
"We asked to be released," he said. "I think we may just put the album out on Asylum to close our deal, but it's definitely a wrap for us at Atlantic. We weren't happy with how things were going, and we decided we wanted to leave, and on their end, they decided that they didn't want to deal with that either."
"We as a group just felt that it was not in our best interest to remain in a situation where our needs were constantly being overlooked," Pooh added. "We didn't have an A&R for The Minstrel Show. We don't have any type of relationship with our current A&R. There are just a lot of internal issues that ended up working against us."
