Duo tells UK paper that they've worked with Damon Albarn, TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe, Hope Sandoval, and others on album.
The Weather Underground could be bubbling to the surface soon.
The long-delayed album of that name from trip-hop group Massive Attack could finally see the light of day, and principals Robert "3D" Del Naja and Grant "Daddy G" Marshall told UK newspaper The Guardian that they have enough new material to release two albums in 12 months.
The duo told the paper that they have recorded tracks with Blur frontman and Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn, who is spearheading a new project called The Good, The Bad, & the Queen, as well as with TV on the Radio frontman Tunde Adebimpe. Former Mazzy Star singer Hope Sandoval is also in the mix, as are regular Massive Attack contributors, such as reggae singer Horace Andy and former Cocteau Twin Liz Fraser.
The album does not yet have a release date and has had several tentative release dates pass without delivery. Marshall told the paper that their hometown can create distractions.
"You get heavily distracted in Bristol," he said.
The album will be the duo's follow-up to 2003's 100th Window, their darkest in years.
Marshall said the new record should have a more soulful vibe.
"I'm here to put the black back into Massive Attack," he said.
Massive Attack are set to play three shows in the UK this month to benefit the Hoping Foundation, a charity that funds community projects for Palestinian refugee children. The band toured the US last summer, despite having to cancel several shows because of visa problems.
