Noel Gallagher blasts U2, Radiohead frontmen
Noel Gallagher puts people on blast like it's his job. Speaking to UK newspaper The Telegraph prior to the band's outstanding achievement honor at next week's Brit Awards, the Oasis guitarist took both U2 frontman Bono and Radiohead singer Thom Yorke to task for their charity-related efforts. Yorke, who is nominated for Best British Male artist for his debut solo album, Eraser, was first up on the chopping block.
"Thom Yorke sat at a piano singing, 'This is f***ed up' for half an hour," Gallagher said. "We all know that, Mr. Yorke. Who wants to sing the news? No matter how much you sit there twiddling, going, 'We're all doomed,' at the end of the day people will always want to hear you play 'Creep.' Get over it." Bono was up next. "It's the same with U2. Play 'One,' [and] shut the f*** up about Africa."
Gallagher even had some choice words for his brother, Oasis frontman Liam: "[He] talks out of his [a**] 23 hours of the day. You say, 'Hey, Liam, what about putting a choir on that song?' 'Brilliant, yeah, f***ing choir, man. Top.' Then someone will go, 'Choir? That's a bit poncey isn't it?' 'Yeah, no, choirs are s***, mate, f***ing rubbish.' So you can have good fun with Liam in the studio."
"If we weren't related, Oasis would have ended after a couple of records," he continued. "But I have always got to put up with Liam. There's always Christmas and kids' birthday parties. And, as bad as it sometimes is being in the band together, I think it would be worse for each of us not working with each other." Awwwww...
Timberlake places d*** in box
Justin Timberlake brought the full package to his show at Madison Square Garden in New York City last night. For the first time since his much-ballyhooed stint on Saturday Night Live last December, the singer jumped into his best Color Me Badd-esque garb, brought SNL's Andy Samberg on stage, and reprised their rendition of "D*** in a Box," complete with appropriately placed, umm, boxes.
Prince Super Bowl bandana on eBay
The bandana that kept Prince's hair from getting mussed up during his Super Bowl performance last Sunday is up on eBay, or at least that what its seller claims. The auction of the item has three days left and bids are currently at $570.
"I was lucky enough to catch Prince's black bandana when he threw it off stage last night during the Super Bowl," the seller explains. "It still even smells like hairspray and sweat. It's all dry now, but still cool, it's like having Prince right there with you!!!"
R. Kelly has surgery, misses hearing
Something about child porn charges does not agree with the appendix of R. Kelly. The R&B singer had to undergo surgery for a burst appendix Sunday, forcing him to miss a court appearance on child pornography charges this week, his lawyer told the Associated Press. Attorney Terence Gillespie said the 40-year-old singer--full name Robert Kelly--had surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, and was expected to return home late yesterday. Kelly has pleaded not guilty to 14 counts of child pornography and is awaiting trial. Kelly was charged in 2002 with engaging in videotaped sex acts with an underage girl. Kelly was in Miami to perform at a Super Bowl party over the weekend. The singer's next court date is February 21, and Gillespie said he expected Kelly to be there.
Sirius to launch Sinatra channel
Frank Sinatra is coming to satellite radio. Sirius Satellite Radio said today that it is launching a channel dedicated to Ol' Blue Eyes, with his daughter Nancy Sinatra set to host a show, and made more than 1,700 songs available for it. "I want his legacy to continue through this century and into the next," Sinatra said at the launch of the channel, which will use family archives and dedicate more than half its playlist to her father. "We're feeding a hungry public." Sirius rival XM Radio has a similar channel, previously called Frank's Place but recently renamed High Standards, which features Sinatra and such contemporaries as Bing Crosby and Ella Fitzgerald.
