Britney's ex seizes the spotlight
In an attempt to extend his fling with anyone's attention, former Britney Spears beau Isaac Cohen has talked to the British tabloids about the embattled pop star. Cohen described Spears as a woman who "loves sex and is incredibly adventurous" but who was not yet over her estranged husband Kevin Federline. "The first time she invited me to her home I saw her wedding dress hung on the wall in a glass box," Cohen told the News of the World. "As we made love that night, it was like Kevin was in bed beside us. She had not even begun to move on with her life."
Cohen said Spears was determined to be a good parent in the wake of her much-publicized, genitalia-revealing partying stint with Paris Hilton. "Far from the trashy drunk, I saw a very shy, sweet girl who was just desperately sad about what had happened with her marriage," he said. "Yes she enjoyed Jack Daniel's but she was trying not to get in the state she had been in with Paris. Her boys mean everything to her and she worried she might lose them in a custody battle." But Cohen wasn't just interested in defending Spears but also exploring her. "She needed me to hold her and tell her what a beautiful girl she is," he told the paper. "We would make slow love until the sun came up. She has an amazing body, and I loved exploring every inch of it."
Jackson sued by Beverly Hills pharmacy
A Beverly Hills, California, pharmacy filed a lawsuit against Michael Jackson last week, claiming the pop star ran up a $100,000 tab for prescription meds but never paid. In a complaint filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Mickey Fine Pharmacy claims it had an oral agreement with Jackson to pay for any prescriptions they filled. The pharmacy claims Jackson made his last payment to them in mid-2005. According to the documents, the pharmacy made "repeated requests for payment." Perhaps Jacko thought that "oral agreement" was related to how to take the pills. The pharmacy is seeking to be paid the $101,926.66 they are owed, plus court costs, and other relief.
Radiohead deny album release date
Radiohead denied reports today that their forthcoming new album will hit stores August 6, despite a post on Amazon's UK site that states the as-yet-untitled album has a release date. The page, linked here, pegs the release on EMI, with whom Radiohead fulfilled its contract with 2003's Hail to the Thief. A new deal or label has not yet been announced. The band toured the US last summer testing out new material and has been recording the material in recent months, but they have been reticent to say when the album will be released.
Report: White Stripes to sign with Warner Bros.
The White Stripes are set to sign a long-term, multimillion dollar deal with Warner Bros., according to a report on Billboard today. The duo of Jack and Meg White had been on now-defunct V2, as was Jack White's successful side project, the Raconteurs. The last White Stripes album, 2005's Get Behind Me Satan, sold 850,000 copies, while last year's Raconteurs debut, Broken Boy Soldiers, moved approximately half that amount. V2 said last month that it would remain a digital-only catalog label, but wouldn't be signing new artists or release new albums, leaving its roster of artists as free agents.
Sigur Ros to play show to protest highway
When it comes to the construction of a new highway in the town of Alafoss, Iceland, native sons Sigur Ros are mad as hell and they're not going to take it anymore. Local authorities are planning to build a highway that will endanger some ancient trees in its path, and the band is set to play a special concert in Reykjavik to raise funds to appeal the construction of the highway and "divert [it] through a less destructive route." For Icelanders and those with hefty travel budgets, tickets for the February 18 show go on sale today. Sigur Ros is currently at work on their next album, the follow up to 2005's Takk. The band is also set to play two US dates this month, February 25 in Miami and the next day at NYC's Carnegie Hall.
Coroner: Levert died of lethal drug mix
R&B singer Gerald Levert's death last November was an accident incited by a fatal combination of prescription narcotics and over-the-counter drugs, a coroner said. Levert had a lethal mix of narcotic pain relievers Vicodin, Percocet, and Darvocet, along with anxiety medication Xanax and two over-the-counter antihistamines, Geauga County Coroner (Ohio) Kevin Chartrand told the Associated Press. The official cause of death was acute intoxication, and the death was ruled accidental. Chartrand said his office received a report Thursday from the Cuyahoga County coroner's office, which conducted the autopsy.
Levert, 40, son of O'Jays singer Eddie Levert, died November 10 in his suburban Cleveland home. Andy Gibson, a family spokesman, said Levert was taking the pain medication because of chronic pain from a lingering shoulder problem and surgery in 2005 to repair a severed Achilles tendon. The autopsy revealed that Levert had pneumonia.
