Festival lineup, set for release tomorrow, leaks on Web site; Widespread Panic, Ben Harper, Flaming Lips, Wilco, Manu Chao, Franz Ferdinand, Ween, and The Roots also set to perform.

Looking to keep its 2007 lineup announcement secret until an announcement tomorrow, Bonnaroo slipped up, and the Interweb pounced.

Tool's Maynard James Keenan is set to play Bonnaroo. Tool's Maynard James Keenan is set to play Bonnaroo.

The full list of performers, mistakenly posted to the Bonnaroo Web site briefly today, is as star-studded a lineup as the Tennessee festival has ever boasted.

In addition to the reunited Police, whose inclusion was announced yesterday, Bonnaroo will also feature performances from Tool, the White Stripes, Widespread Panic, Ben Harper, Flaming Lips, Wilco, Manu Chao, Franz Ferdinand, Ween, and The Roots.

Sticking to the festival's roots, jam bands will be fully present, as String Cheese Incident, Bob Weir & Ratdog, Gov't Mule, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Keller Williams, Hot Tuna, STS9, Galactic, North Mississippi Allstars, and the Slip are on the bill.

But the four-day event, held June 14-17 in Manchester, Tenn., will also highlight plenty of other genres. The lineup includes Damien Rice, Dierks Bentley, Kings Of Leon, the Black Keys, Wolfmother, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, Decemberists, Lily Allen, Spoon, the Hold Steady, Feist, Paolo Nutini, Tortoise, Cold War Kids, the National, Annuals, Apollo Sunshine, DJ Shadow, Sasha & Digweed, Hot Chip, Girl Talk, Regina Spektor, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Fountains Of Wayne, Ralph Stanley, Richard Thompson, Mavis Staples, T-Bone Burnett, Brazilian Girls, the Nightwatchman, and Rodrigo y Gabriela.

Tickets go on sale Friday at noon E.T. via Bonnaroo.com.

Tool Tool

Tool's greatest breakthrough was to introduce dark, vaguely underground metal to the preening pretentiousness of art rock. Or maybe it was introducing the self-absorbed pretension of art rock to the wearing grind of post-thrash metal -- the order really doesn't matter. Though Metallica wrote their multi-sectioned, layered songs as if they were...

The Police The Police

Nominally, the Police were punk rock, but that's only in the loosest sense of the term. The trio's nervous, reggae-injected pop/rock was punky, but it wasn't necessarily punk. All three members were considerably more technically proficient than the average punk or new wave band. Andy Summers had a precise guitar attack that created dense,...

The White Stripes The White Stripes

Detroit minimalist rock duo (specifically, southwest Detroit minimalist rock duo) the White Stripes -- Jack White, guitar and vocals, Meg White, drums -- formed in 1997 (Bastille Day, to be precise) with the idea of making simple rock & roll music. From the red-and-white peppermint candy motif of their debut singles, self-titled album, and stage...

Widespread Panic Widespread Panic

One of the many neo-hippie jam bands inheriting the road-warrior mantle left behind by the Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic established a devout grassroots following on the strength of constant touring and a loose, rootsy brand of Southern rock informed by jazz and blues textures. The group's origins dated to 1982, when vocalist John Bell and...

Tool
In an age where major labels dictate that new releases from bands appear on record store shelves every 18 months or so, rare is the artist given freedom and ability to reflect and stretch out to explore creative evolution and release music as an artist, rather than the prepackaged predictability of an entertainer. Thankfully, Tool has somehow...
The Police "Synchronicity"
The Police
Although the Police's fifth release, 1983's Synchronicity, would be their most commercially successful and lead to a sold-out tour of enormodomes (including New York's Shea Stadium), it would turn out to be the trio's final album and tour. Like all Police recordings, Synchronicity contains some obvious "filler" (such as the silly dinosaur tale...
The White Stripes "Get Behind Me Satan"
The White Stripes
According to Jack White, Get Behind Me Satan deals with "characters and the ideal of truth," but in truth, the album is just as much about what people expect from the White Stripes and what they themselves want to deliver. Advance publicity for the album stated that it was written on piano, marimba, and acoustic guitar, suggesting that it was...
Widespread Panic "Earth to America"
Widespread Panic
One thing that can definitively be said about Widespread Panic is that they sound like no one else but themselves, whether they are playing covers live or performing original material. In some ways, that's the worst thing one can say about them as well. On most of their studio recordings, Widespread Panic come off as so utterly unfocused and...
