Foxy Brown arrested again
What kind of person throws hair glue at people? Foxy Brown, that's who. The rapper got into yet another scuffle at a beauty supply store yesterday in Florida, ending in her arrest for battery. Brown--real name Inga Marchand--allegedly went nuts after an employee of Queen Beauty Supply in Pembroke Pines, Fla. spotted her "utilizing beauty products" in the store's bathroom and told her the shop was closed. Brown allegedly responded by spitting on the worker and throwing hair glue at him. When cops responded to a 911 call, Marchand swatted an officer's hand away and began "swinging her arms and struggling" with the cop. As he noted in his affidavit, Officer D. Cuba was "forced to utilize a takedown maneuver to gain control" of her. Police subsequently tacked on a charge of obstruction of justice. She was booked into the Broward County lockup, where a sheriff's representative snapped the below mug shot. Brown has previously been arrested on several occasions, most recently for attacking manicurists at a Manhattan salon. As a result of that confrontation, Marchand was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to attend anger management classes.
Bono honor gets rejected
North Dakota lawmakers yesterday defeated a resolution 58-35 to honor Bono for his advocacy of debt relief for Third World countries, saying the Irish rocker had no connection to the state. Fargo state Rep. Scot Kelsh, who sponsored the measure, said he got the idea for the resolution from a magazine published by the National Conference of State Legislatures, which mentioned that no state at the time had approved a resolution to honor the singer. "This is something that does matter to us as citizens of North Dakota, the United States, and the world at large," Kelsh said. Rep. Gil Herbel, a Republican, said he initially thought the resolution referred to Sonny Bono, the former singer, Republican congressman, and husband of Cher. "When I saw the resolution, I was looking for Cher's name in there," Herbel said.
Chesney denies being gay
In the aftermath of actress Renee Zellweger's 2005 filing for annulment of her marriage to Kenny Chesney, the country singer never publicly addressed why the word "fraud" was used on the document. In an interview with CBS' 60 Minutes, Chesney denied reports that "fraud" indicated that he was gay. "It's not true," he said. "Period. Maybe I should have come out and said, 'No, I'm not [gay],' but I didn't want to draw any more attention to it. I didn't have to prove to anybody that I wasn't [gay]. I didn't feel like I really did." Zellweger and Chesney were married on the Caribbean island of St. John in the US Virgin Islands in May 2005. It was the first marriage for both. Four months later, Zellweger listed "fraud" as the reason she was seeking an annulment. "The only fraud that was committed was me thinking that I knew what it was like...that I really understood what it was like to be married, and I really didn't," he says. Chesney, who is set to go on tour this summer, says he has no regrets.
Howard Stern gets engaged, takes ribbing
Howard Stern, who once publicly vowed never to marry again, has announced his engagement to his longtime girlfriend, model Beth Ostrosky. The 53-year-old shock jock acknowledged to colleagues this week on his daily Sirius Satellite Radio talk show that he proposed to 34-year-old Ostrosky on Tuesday, Valentine's Day eve. The move broke Stern's earlier on-air vow to never wed again after his 23-year marriage to his first wife, Alison, ended in divorce in 2001. The couple, who have three daughters, had separated two years earlier. "I said to her, 'I love you, and you are everything to me,"' Stern said Wednesday. "It was spontaneous. I did not rehearse it. I just said...I don't even know what I said, I said something like...'I'm asking you to spend the rest of your life with me."' But the shock jock and self-proclaimed "King of All Media" said he was in no rush to exchange vows and did not want more children. "I plan to be engaged for like 10 years," he said.
Ricky gives Bush finger, explains
If President George W. Bush is looking for some entertainment for his next gala, he should lose Ricky Martin's number. At a recent concert in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the 35-year-old singer stuck up his middle finger when he sang the president's name in his song "Asignatura Pendiente," which includes the words, "a photo with Bush." The gesture prompted cheers from thousands of fans in the San Juan stadium, and Martin has not backed down from the move this week. "My convictions of peace and life go beyond any government and political agenda, and as long as I have a voice onstage and offstage, I will always condemn war and those who promulgate it," Martin said about his action in an e-mail statement sent to the Associated Press via a spokesman.
Brandy faces second accident lawsuit
Soon after the news of Brandy's involvement in a fatal car crash went public, the woman who died in the crash sued the singer. Now the woman's children have filed a wrongful death lawsuit as well. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the children of Awatef Aboundihaj, the woman who died in a four-car crash on the 405 freeway in Los Angeles last December. The crash began when Brandy drove into the back of Aboundihaj's car. "Our clients are obviously devastated by this tragedy," Paul Philips, the lawyer of the victim's two children, said in a statement. "Their lives are upside down, and as children, they're really finding themselves having to deal with a loss they don't even fully comprehend yet."
