Sight of Eminem makes Kim Mathers vomit
This time it's for good, and Kim Mathers is telling as many people as possible. Fresh off her second divorce from Eminem, Mathers made another media appearance to trash the Detroit rapper last week. In a live appearance at Detroit radio station WKQI-FM, Mathers said, "I never spoke up about it before because I always felt something for him. Now I have vomit in my mouth if I'm around him or hear his name. There's nothing left in me for him. Nothing." Mathers, who has generally avoided the spotlight in the past, has been on a publicity binge in recent weeks in an effort to tell her side of the twice-divorced couple's turbulent history, which Eminem has often depicted in his songs. Mathers went on to say that "sex was bad" with the star rapper, and that the couple's portrayal in Eminem's lyrics was far from the truth. "People hear them and praise him," she said. "It bothers me because it's nothing like that in the real world."
Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, issued a statement urging his ex-wife to stop talking about their relationship in the media. "It's a shame that I've moved on and Kim hasn't," he said. "Her ongoing press campaign is doing nothing but harm to the children, and for that, I feel truly sorry. For their sake, I wish she would stop." The couple's first divorce, finalized in 2001, prompted both a custody battle over their daughter, Hailie, and Eminem's hit "Kim"--a graphic rap fantasy about his ex-wife's death. The couple reconciled in 2005, remarried in a January wedding in a Detroit suburb, but then separated weeks later. In addition to their daughter, the couple also cares for Hailie's cousin, Alaina.
Report: Van Halen reunion tour fizzles
Remember that Van Halen-with-David Lee Roth tour that was widely reported but never officially announced? Yeah, not happening. Pollstar reports today that the reunion tour is now officially postponed indefinitely, despite a press release earlier this month from Eddie Van Halen's spokeswoman/girlfriend. With a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction on the way, the band was reportedly close to signing a contract with tour promoter Live Nation for a 40-date trek, which would mark Roth's first outing with the rock band in more than 20 years. Guitarist Eddie Van Halen's 15-year-old son Wolfgang has stepped in for original bassist Michael Anthony in the new incarnation of the group, while Eddie's brother Alex Van Halen remains the band's drummer.
Lady Sov blasts Corinne Bailey Rae
While she might not be up to the challenge when it comes to taking on jelly donut MCs, Lady Sovereign is perfectly comfortable skewing Grammy nominees. Speaking to The Daily Mirror's 3AM Girls today, the pint-sized British rapper said she recently cornered singer Corinne Bailey Rae backstage at a TV performance, saying, "I told her she was boring and that she should be called Corinne "Boring" Rae."
Cue laugh track.
"Corinne just said 'whatever' and turned on her heels like she was the queen," Sov added.
Spector trial to be televised
A judge has ruled that the murder trial of rock producer Phil Spector can be televised, despite concerns that stem from the 1995 murder trial of football star O.J. Simpson, which was televised and made minor celebrities out of many of its participants. Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler said it was time to put aside the "fear of cameras in the courtroom" since the Simpson trial made an unwilling celebrity of his colleague and friend, Judge Lance Ito. "They don't want what happened to Judge Ito to happen to them," Fidler said of Los Angeles judges. "In essence, what nobody wants is another Simpson...In my mind, at some point we have to get past that trial." Fidler said he thought cameras could be a positive factor in the courtroom but warned that he would "pull the plug" immediately if coverage was handled badly.
Jury selection is scheduled to begin next month in the trial, in which Spector is accused of shooting to death Lana Clarkson in the foyer of his home in February 2003. Spector, 67, could face life in prison if convicted of murdering Clarkson, the 40-year-old star of such B movies as Barbarian Queen and Amazon Women on the Moon.
Counting Crows' Duritz starts label
Counting Crows front man Adam Duritz, he of the Sideshow Bob-esque mane, is launching his own label. The singer's New York-based Tyrannosaurus Records label has already signed two artists--soloist Notar and punk band Blacktop Mourning--whom Duritz said he found while surfing MySpace.com. "The talent of Notar and Blacktop Mourning just blew me away, and I wanted to be a part of their evolution," Duritz said. "We're here to create a partnership with our artists, help them make great music, and navigate the treacherous waters of the music business." Duritz said he envisions T-Recs as a boutique label that will handle everything in-house and sign a limited number of artists "so that each band gets personal attention." The label will be distributed exclusively in North America by Megaforce Records through Sony/RED.
Buckethead to release 13 albums
While Guns N' Roses patiently wait for the long-rumored arrival of Chinese Democracy, former GNR guitarist Buckethead is set to release 13 new albums, all of which will be personally numbered and monogrammed by the KFC bucket-wearing axe man. The new albums, a series called In Search of the..., will hit stores February 21. Regular Buckethead collaborator Travis Dickerson told Roadrunner Records of the series: "This is not a regular CD. It's handmade, hand-burned. This is not a manufactured deal. No two of these will be the same. I have never heard of an artist doing something like this. This is as direct from the artist to the fan as I have ever heard of. As far as the content, I don't know, but the mystery around it is no surprise." Each CD can be purchased separately for $20, while the entire 13-volume collection is available for $200.
