Band associate says Chinese Democracy recording is finished, while drummer's fan site says he and Axl reconciled.
The much-ballyhooed March 6 release date for the long-delayed Guns N Roses album Chinese Democracy is fast approaching, so now seems the historically appropriate moment to announce that the date has been pushed back.
Speaking to Blabbermouth.net, longtime GNR associate Del James said that despite recent backlash about the delay, March 6 was a tentative date, and that although there is no official date, recording on the record is done.
"The good news is that all of the recording for the album has been completed," James said. "Drummer Frank Ferrer and guitarist Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal integrated themselves into the recordings seamlessly and will have their presence felt. There is no official release date, as the band is currently mixing, but after some delays and scheduling difficulties, things appear to be moving along."
Chinese Democracy would be the first original GNR album since the 1993 covers collection The Spaghetti Incident. Rose is the only member of the original lineup still in the band and has burned through a reported $13 million in recording expenses.
GNR has been touring since early 2006, and this year is set to play shows in South Africa--the band's first on the African continent--as well as dates in Japan, Thailand, South America, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand.
Meanwhile, a fan site of former GNR drummer Steven Adler posted an interview with Adler in which he said he and GNR frontman Axl Rose have reconciled, and that a GNR reunion "would be the biggest reunion ever in history."
Adler told the site that he had a lengthy conversation with Rose recently and buried the hatchet.
"We resolved a lot of s***," Adler said. "I said, 'You know, the five of us have to get back together! That's when it will really take off again! Nothing will be bigger.'"
Adler reported that Rose merely "grinned and giggled a little bit" in response. But Adler also revealed that he has spoken with Izzy Stradlin about a reunion and that they both support the idea.
"You know the five of us have to get back together! That's when it will really f***ing take off again! Nothing will be bigger. It would be the biggest reunion ever in history."
