Red Gone Wild, in stores March 27, will feature appearances by Method Man, Nate Dogg, Keith Murray, and Biz Markie.
The always-frenetic Redman has nearly six years' worth of pent-up energy on tap for Red Gone Wild, his new album, which finally received a release date from Def Jam.
The album, Redman's first official release since 2001's Malpractice, will hit stores March 27. It features guest appearances by Method Man, Nate Dogg, Keith Murray, and Biz Markie. Producers on the album include Erick Sermon, Timbaland, Scott Storch, Rockwilder, and Eminem.
The album's first single, "Put It Down," which was produced by Timbaland, is out to radio now and a video for the track is set to debut in early March.
Malpractice has sold 685,000 copies in the US, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Since its release, Redman has released two volumes of the Ill at Will mixtapes, which also feature his Gilla House crew.
In an interview with MTV, Redman addressed the much-discussed topic of Def Jam's promotion and marketing of its artists, particularly Redman's partner Method Man, who publicly complained about the label promotion of his 2006 release, 4:21 ... The Day After, which sustained poor sales.
"I don't know how everybody else does it, but Def Jam is working like whatever gets played on the radio is your single," Redman said. "It's just like, if I got a record that I ain't even want to be the single, but if the b**** gets a certain amount of spins, that's my single [and] video."
"I'm not gonna be the last man standing," he continued. "I'd look like a fool saying, 'Def Jam didn't do this for me, that for me.' I'm self-sufficient, self-owned. These last four years, I've been going on the road my damn self, shaking hands. Letting people know this is coming out."
