Foxy Brown blames racism for latest arrest
To Foxy Brown, there is a perfectly good explanation for the allegations that she went overboard on the free samples at a beauty shop in Florida earlier this month--charges that had her throwing her glue at the store owner and mixing it up with a police officer. That explanation is racism. "The only crime I am guilty of committing is being a young black female celebrity in Broward County," Brown said at a press conference at a Brooklyn church yesterday, according to the Associated Press. "I am the victim of an overzealous police department who engaged in police brutality and a money hungry store owner whose motives are for me to pay his mortgage on his house and his children's tuition."
Brown--real name Inga Marchand--held the press conference to tell her side of the story of how a February 15 visit to a Florida beauty supply store in Pembroke Pines, Florida, went awry and ended in her arrest. The 27-year-old rapper said she was dragged half-naked out of the store's restroom, which she claimed to be using at the time, and then picked on by police officers because she is black. That story differs substantially from the account from the store owner and police, who alleged Brown took a bunch of items she hadn't purchased, and began putting them on in the restroom.
"I was exposed from the waist down on the toilet," Brown said. "The only crime I'm guilty of is being a young black woman." Brown could face jail time if a judge decides she violated probation after she got in trouble for hitting two manicurists with a cell phone in 2004. She has to go back in front of the Manhattan judge this week. This is the latest in a string of run-ins with the law for Brown. She was charged with resisting an officer and simple battery.
MyNetworkTV to broadcast Elton's birthday show
Fox's fledgling television network said today that it has snagged exclusive rights to broadcast Elton John's 60th birthday concert, which will take place March 25 at Madison Square Garden. "Happy Birthday Elton" will air on MyNetworkTV on April 5. The special will feature John's record-breaking 60th concert at the famed New York venue as well as celebrity interviews. Sir Elton also said this week that his 15th annual Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) Oscar night party raised $4.2 Million for the fight against HIV/AIDS. The party included a joint performance from John and Grammy winner James Blunt.
Posh Spice gets reality show
It was only a matter of time. Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham, whose is moving to Los Angeles with her soccer star husband David Beckham, is reportedly set to star in her own fashion-based reality show on NBC.
The 32-year-old former Spice Girl has inked a multimillion dollar deal with NBC to host her own tongue-in-cheek reality show, according to the Daily Mail.
The deal was brokered by former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller, who also negotiated Beckham's $250 million move to soccer franchise LA Galaxy.
He told the paper: "The Americans were falling over themselves to sign Victoria up for a TV show but we had to choose the right deal for her. NBC won out in the end as they have really taken a shine to Vic's hilarious sense of humor and they want to capitalize on this. She is a funny lady and this new series will show this to the world."
Bobby Brown jailed over child support
His marriage to Whitney Houston is pending divorce, and now Bobby Brown is in jail. The singer was ordered on Monday to remain in a county jail until he pays $19,000 in late child support and court fees, his lawyer told the Associated Press. "We're diligently working on getting those funds available from outside sources," said Phaedra Parks, an attorney in Atlanta where Brown currently lives. Parks said Brown has been struggling to meet monthly payments to Kim Ward, of Stoughton, the mother of his two teenage children. "Although this agreement was put in place when he was Bobby Brown the star, this agreement is being enforced when he is not always able to find work," Parks said. "He hasn't made an album in quite some years." Houston filed for divorce from Brown last fall after 14 years of marriage. Brown was taken into custody on Sunday while he was watching his daughter's cheerleading competition at Attleboro High School.

Falconer is set to appear in Dundee Sheriff Court March 2.
