EA goes electro for soccer soundtrack

Thievery Corp., Brazilian Girls, Andy Caldwell, Thunderball, Osunlade tabbed for UEFA Champions League's sonic backdrop.

Looking to bring an electro-lounge vibe to its forthcoming UEFA Champions League soccer game, Electronic Arts has tabbed some of the genre's heavyweights for its soundtrack.

EA today unveiled the track listing for the sonic backdrop of the 2006-2007 version of the game, with big names like DC-based dub/downtempo duo Thievery Corporation and the eclectic Brazilian Girls on board.

The 11-track album also includes acclaimed producers like Andy Caldwell, Bonobo, and Osunlade, as well as house remixes of Latin legends like Ray Barretto and Cal Tjader.

UEFA Champions League is based on the prestigious European club soccer tournament of the same name, and is set to hit stores March 20.

"The UEFA Champions League is an action-packed tournament that brings out the passion soccer fans have for their favorite club," said Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Marketing at EA, in a statement. "Fans are taken on an emotional roller coaster as they follow their team through the ups and downs of the tournament and this is the spirit that we wanted to capture for the in-game soundtrack in the official UEFA Champions League 2006-2007 video game. We have assembled an exhilarating collection of music from around the world that guarantees there's something for everyone."
