Famed trumpeter and several international stars are added to acclaimed jazz festival, set for June 28-July 8.
The most famous trumpeter on the planet and a flock of international stars have been added to acclaimed Montreal Jazz Festival, set for its 28th edition this summer.
The event, which takes place June 28 to July 8 throughout the city, unveiled its latest list of scheduled performers, including Wynton Marsalis, the Roy Haynes Quartet, Mexican multi-instrumentalist Manu Chao, Cape Verdean singer Cesaria Evora, and Brazilian singer Seu Jorge, best known for his serene acoustic David Bowie covers in the film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.
Marsalis will appear with his Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and Ghanaian drum master Yacub Addy, while Cesaria Evora and Seu Jorge will share the stage at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier.
Guitarist Derek Trucks, who has been touring with Eric Clapton for the past several months, was also added to the bill. Vocalist Mark Murphy, drummer Billy Cobham, and French violinist Didier Lockwood were also added to the lineup. In addition, the fest will mark the North American premiere of the Spaghetti Western Orchestra, with its tribute to the film scores of Italian composer Ennio Morricone.
The performers were added to a star-studded roster that already included the Dave Holland Quintet, Holly Cole, the Wayne Shorter Quartet, Joshua Redman, Keith Jarrett, and Branford Marsalis.
