Aging hair band records songs by the Stones, David Bowie, the Cars, Tom Petty, Alice Cooper, Kiss, and The Who for Poison'd.
Poison is about to enter stage five on the hyperbolic hair band career arc: record a covers album to justify another reunion tour.
Bret Michaels, C.C. DeVille, Rikki Rockett, and Bobby Dall said this week that they will be releasing Poison'd, an album of cover songs, their first new album since 2002, on June 5, with a North American tour to follow.
The covers include the Rolling Stones' "Dead Flowers," David Bowie's "Suffragette City," Tom Petty's "I Need to Know," Sweet's "Little Willy," Alice Cooper's "I Never Cry," "Can't You See" by the Marshall Tucker Band, and "Just What I Needed" by the Cars.
The album will also include previously recorded covers of The Who's "Squeeze Box," "Rock and Roll All Nite" by Kiss, the Romantics' "What I Like About You," Jim Croce's "You Don't Mess Around with Jim," and Grand Funk Railroad's "We're an American Band."
"Poison is one of the greatest rock 'n roll bands in the world and, after 20 years, they can slam better than ever," says Poison'd producer Don Was. "They're powerful musicians and very cool guys. We had a lot of fun making this album and I think you can hear it in the grooves--it's got the jive and is truly alive! I urge everyone to listen to it!"
The band will kick off the tour June 12, with dates, cities, and venues to be announced in the coming weeks.
In July, VH1 will premiere a new reality show, Rock of Love with Bret Michaels, which has "the hard-rockin' Poison front man looking for a woman who can truly keep up with his rock-n-roll lifestyle and not become jealous of his one true passion--performing, which has been the reason for and destruction of most of his relationships," according to VH1.
