Spears plays comeback shows
Once you've established the benchmark of shaving your head, heading to rehab, and making K-Fed look like a responsible adult, you can only go up, right? Britney Spears played her second "secret" comeback show last night, reportedly lip-syncing throughout and performing for less than the 16 minutes she performed in the first show.
Fans paid between $35 and $250 for tickets to the show at the House of Blues in Anaheim, which was billed as "The M+M's." Spears reportedly took the stage after a two-and-a-half-hour delay and performed five songs, while wearing a brown wig, white boots, micro-mini skirt, and hot-pink bra. She is planning several performances this week, including at show at the Los Angeles House Of Blues club tonight and the House Of Blues in Las Vegas on Sunday, according to People.
Kelly records song for Virginia Tech
As he awaits trial on charges of soliciting a minor for child pornography, R. Kelly has stepped up to write and record a charity song in the aftermath of the April 16 shootings at Virginia Tech. Kelly will be posting the song, "Rise Up," for download here on May 15, with 100 percent of the net proceeds from its sale going to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund, said Jive Records, Kelly's record label.
The April 16 tragedy saw a lone gunman kill 32 people and himself on the university's campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. "Rise Up" includes the lyrics, "Rise up, when you feel you can't go on, rise up, and all of your hope is gone, rise up, when you're weak and you can't be strong." The Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund was created to provide assistance to the victims of the families, as well as grief counseling and other needs for those affected by the shootings.
50 Cent puts up home for sale
The 52-room mansion that 50 Cent has called home for more than three years, an estate once owned by boxer Mike Tyson, is up for sale, according to the Associated Press. Fiddy--real name Curtis Jackson--bought the 48,000-plus-square-foot house in September 2003 for $4.1 million. Since buying the mansion, 50 Cent has reportedly spent up to $6 million renovating the house, including adding a helicopter pad.
Curt Clemens, owner of Century 21 Clemens & Sons in Hartford, told the Hartford Courant this week that he toured the house a few months ago after being contacted by representatives of the rapper who said he wanted to sell the property. "He's put a lot into it, and it's all very tasteful, except the stripper poles," Clemens said.
Fall Out Boy to travel to Uganda
After participating in last weekend's Displace Me event, whereby more than 67,000 young activists took to the streets in 15 cities across the US to raise awareness about the plight of refugees in Ugandan displacement camps, Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz decided that he wanted to see the situation himself.
So the band is going to "put our money where our mouth is," Wentz told MTV News. "People went and slept out in a little cardboard city...and you could only bring one pack of crackers and a bottle of water...I don't feel like we got anywhere near what it's actually like, but...it was an attempt at empathy. So we got the shots [necessary to travel to] Africa, and we're going to go to Uganda in July. I'm pretty excited but also a little nervous. I feel like I won't really understand it until I go there, and I think that there's no other chance for me to do that." In addition to their trip in July, Fall Out Boy are also welcoming Invisible Children out on the road with them on the Honda Civic Tour, which kicks off May 11 in Denver.
Busta busted on DUI suspicion
Talk about living in the crosshairs. Busta Rhymes was arrested yet again in New York early this morning on a drunken driving charge, the latest in a litany of legal woes for the rapper. New York City police said today they stopped Rhymes at about 12:40 a.m. because the sport utility vehicle he was driving had overly tinted windows. When officers approached his car and asked for his paperwork, Rhymes reached over and dropped his wallet, at which point "he was found to have a strong odor of alcohol on his breath," according to the police report.
Rhymes--real name Trevor Smith--has been hit with a barrage of charges over the past year, with many suggesting that he's being targeted because of his lack of cooperation with the murder investigation of his bodyguard Israwel Ramirez, who was gunned down last February. Rhymes is tentatively scheduled to go to trial Tuesday on two assault charges, having recently lost a chance at a plea deal.
Report: Dylan performs in kindergarten
To many adults, he's the greatest living songwriter, but to a handful of kindergartners in the Los Angeles suburb of Calabasas, Bob Dylan is simply that weird guitar guy that keep showing up to play in their class. The New York Post reported today that Dylan has been singing to the kindergarten class of his son Jakob Dylan's son. According to the paper, Granddad Dylan is a "weird man" who keeps coming to their class to sing "scary" songs on his guitar.
