Annual tribute show for charity will feature members of Linkin Park, Disturbed, Damageplan, Slayer, and Anthrax.
He died in one of the most horrific incidents in the history of music, but if the list of stars signed up to perform at the Dimebag Darrell tribute show are any indication, it was not in vain.
The Dimebag Darrell Black Tooth Bash charity concert and auction, set for May 17 at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, will feature a charity concert and auction in memory of the renowned guitarist of Pantera, Damageplan, and Rebel Meets Rebel. "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott was killed onstage in Columbus, Ohio, in December 2004 by a crazed gunman, who also fatally wounded three others in the incident.
The event, named after the "Black Tooth Grin" cocktail Abbott created, will center on a tribute concert by the Black Tooth Band, an all-star group loaded with big-name hard rock talent. The band features Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington, Disturbed singer David Draiman, Dave Navarro, Staind singer Aaron Lewis, Slayer guitarist Kery King, Anthrax's Scott Ian, Damageplan's Bob Zilla, Hatebreed's Matt Byrne, ex-Marilyn Manson guitarist John 5, former Judas Priest singer Ripper Owens, and others as the Black Tooth Band. The band will be joined by Abbott's brother and bandmate Vinnie Paul Abbott, now with the band Hellyeah.
The group will cover material from the late guitarist's multiple projects and will be joined by Hatebreed singer Jamey Jasta, the event's host, at the end of the night.
The event will also feature an auction of guitars hand-painted by musicians including Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie, Slash, James Hetfield, Dave Grohl, Tom Morello, and others. All proceeds will go solely to Little Kids Rock (LKR), a nonprofit music education program that provides free instruments and music lessons to public school students.
