Annual September fest unveils early lineup, which also includes Decemberists, Joss Stone, and Andrew Bird, in a Chronicle crossword puzzle.
Although the stench of stale beer and burned synapses might still be lingering in Austin from South by Southwest (SXSW), the Texas capital is itching to host some of the world's best bands for another go-round.
The organizers of the annual Austin City Limits festival, which takes place September 14 to 16 in Austin's Zilker Park, unveiled the preliminary lineup for the three-day day September event, with The White Stripes, Bjork, The Decemberists, Peter, Bjorn, and John, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Robert Earl Keen, Joss Stone, and Andrew Bird among the top names.
The festival unveiled the lineup in its usual quirky fashion, running a crossword in the Austin Chronicle that revealed the names, having done so last year with an online scavenger hunt.
The revelation also included Rose Hill Drive, Gotan Project, Indigo Girls, Heartless Bastards, Augustana, Beau Soleil, and Andy Palacio. Those 15 bands join the following already-confirmed acts, including Kings of Leon, Raul Malo, Stephen Marley, Ben Kweller, Rev. Horton Heat, Asleep at the Wheel, The Little Ones, Charlie Musselwhite, The Jellydots, and Sara Hickman.
The full lineup is expected to be announced in the coming days. Tickets can be purchased here. Three-day passes cost $145.
