Chicago rockers will play nine shows at the Orange Peel in Asheville, N.C., and eight shows at the Fillmore in San Francisco.
In April 1994, at the height of their popularity, the Smashing Pumpkins were picked to reopen the historic Fillmore in San Francisco.
Now, the Chicago rockers have picked the Fillmore as one of the venues that will reintroduce them to the world. The band, which dissolved in 2000, is set to play eight shows at the legendary venue this summer, as well as nine shows at the Orange Peel in Asheville, N.C.
The residencies won't be the band's first live performances, as Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain--the only two original members believed to be involved in the band's reincarnation--are playing a host of European dates in June. They will be joined by bassist Ginger Reyes and guitarist Jeff Schroeder, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The Pumpkins will play their first live performance in nearly seven years on May 22 at the Grand Rex in Paris, France, followed by a number of European festival dates.
The Pumpkins will play at the Orange Peel on June 23-24, 26-27, 29-30, and July 2-3 and 5. The Fillmore residency will follow, occurring on July 22, 24-25, 27-28, 30-31, and Aug. 1.
Tickets go on sale Sunday online via Ticketmaster online only, with tickets costing $25 for the Fillmore dates and $20 for the Orange Peel dates.
The band said in a statement that it will draw from a different set list each night and will also play material from its forthcoming new album, Zeitgeist, which hits stores July 10 via Martha's Music/Reprise. And in a unique twist, the band is encouraging fans to record shows throughout the residencies with their own audio and video equipment.
"They'll perform songs from Zeitgeist and Pumpkins classics, plus retool songs that didn't make it onto Zeitgeist, and even offer tunes written the day of the show," the band said. "The shows will give fans a unique opportunity to see the Pumpkins inside the process of creation and operating in the spur of the moment."
