Candidate's campaign sets up contest to choose theme song; KT Tunstall, Smash Mouth, Temptations, Staple Singers, Jesus Jones, and Shania Twain in the hunt.

Looking for a ditty that conveys just the right sense of optimism and urgency, Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton is turning to the Internet for help picking her official campaign song.

Hillary Clinton Hillary Clinton

Clinton's campaign team has set up a contest on her Web site, asking users to vote on one of nine songs to become the song that defines her run for the highest office in the land, much like Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop" became the theme for her husband Bill Clinton's presidential run in 1992.

Voters have two US songs to choose from, as both "City of Blinding Lights" and "Beautiful Day" made the list. The Dixie Chicks' "Ready to Run," KT Tunstall's "Suddenly I See," Jesus Jones' "Right Here, Right Now," The Temptations' "Get Ready," and The Staple Singers' "I'll Take You There" also made the list, as did Smash Mouth's cover of the Monkees' "I'm a Believer."

U2 and Motown classics feature heavily on the playlist of Hillary Clinton's iPod.

This is a farce.

Back in the 80's, Clinton and her buddies were trying to ban heavy metal and rap.

Now she's the icon of a generation?

Anyone who falls for this...

U2 U2

Through a combination of zealous righteousness and post-punk experimentalism, U2 became one of the most popular rock & roll bands of the '80s. Equally known for their sweeping sound as for their grandiose statements about politics and religion, they were rock & roll crusaders during an era of synthesized pop and heavy metal. The Edge provided...

Dixie Chicks Dixie Chicks

The Dixie Chicks rose from relative obscurity in 1998 to become one of the most popular acts in contemporary country music. Their origins date back nearly a decade earlier, to 1989, when fiddler Martie Seidel and her banjo-playing sister Emily Erwin formed the group in Dallas with bassist Laura Lynch and guitarist Robin Lynn Macy; after getting...

Shania Twain Shania Twain

Emerging in the mid-'90s, Shania Twain became the most popular country music artist since Garth Brooks. Skillfully fusing mainstream, AOR rock production with country-pop, Twain and her producer/husband Robert John "Mutt" Lange created a commercial juggernaut with her second album, The Woman in Me. The record became a multi-platinum phenomenon,...

Ever since the beginning of their career, U2 had a sense of purpose and played on a larger scale than their peers, so when they stumbled with the knowing rocktronica fusion of 1997's Pop -- the lone critical and commercial flop in their catalog -- it was enough to shake the perception held among fans and critics, perhaps even among the group...

Dixie Chicks
The road leading away from Home, the Dixie Chicks' acclaimed 2002 return to straight-ahead country, proved to be quite rocky for the Texan trio, largely due to anti-George W. Shania Twain
When Up! was released in November 2002, Shania Twain revealed in one of many promotional interviews that she writes far more songs than can fit on her records and that she hides any personal, introspective songs she pens, not even playing them for her husband and collaborator Robert John "Mutt" Lange. Now, this is certainly a psychological quirk...
