Chicago rockers license six songs for six different TV ads for the German automaker, with VW also streaming the songs on its site.

Convinced that its past marketing efforts haven't worked, Volkswagen is handing over the keys to Wilco.

The Chicago rockers have licensed six songs from their new album Sky Blue Sky to the German automaker for six different TV ads, each of which will center on the tagline, "When you get into a Volkswagen, it gets into you."

AdAge.com reported today that ad agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky created the ad spots, the first of which uses Wilco's "The Thanks I Get" and centers on a tow-truck operator who becomes so enamored with the Volkswagen GTI he's supposed to be moving that he just tows its out of the no-parking zone it is in.

A second commercial features "You Are My Face," and focuses on a man who pulls his car into a valet parking area, only to be unable and unwilling to give up his keys to the attendants.

"Shouting three for under $17,000 hasn't helped, so we are not going to try to compensate for what we are not," VW exec Adrian Hallmark told AdAge.com.

All six Wilco songs will also stream from the Volkswagen Web site.
