With a new album set to arrive in the fall, moody rock vets are set for 20 live dates starting in mid-September.
After a year of only a handful of one-off live dates, The Cure is set to bring its melodic moodiness on a lengthy North America tour this fall in support of a new album set to hit stores around the same time.
Frontman Robert Smith will lead his ever-evolving lineup, which currently features bassist Simon Gallup, drummer Jason Cooper, and guitarist Porl Thompson, on 20 dates starting September 13 in Tampa, Florida. The trek will conclude with an October 17 show at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Sheffield-based rockers 65 Days of Static will open.
The Cure's new album, for which a release date has not yet been announced, will be released on Suretone/Geffen album. In early December 2006, Smith complained of writer's block, saying that if he didn't finish writing lyrics by Christmas "I should be shot."
It will be the band's follow-up to its 2004 self-titled album, as well as the recent DVD Festival 2005, taped during a run of summer 2005 European festivals.

Oldest First | Newest FirstBit o' trivia: not only was Porl a guitarist on what is arguably their most solid albums (okay, The Top is really spotty -- but Head on the Door, Kiss Me x3 and Disintegration stand up there), but he is also the man who does all of the squiggly line art and logos that we always associate with their album covers. Parched Art is the name of his design company.
Now you know.
I now have to let my friend know, she loves them.
