New Orleans festival also snares Wilco, Fall Out Boy, Ben Harper, Tiesto, Sinead O'Connor, and Common, among others.

Two reunited stalwarts of '90s rock have been picked to headline the 2007 Voodoo Music Experience, as Rage Against the Machine and Smashing Pumpkins top a loaded bill for the three-day, pre-Halloween festival in New Orleans' City Park.

The event, set for Oct. 26-28, will also feature performances from Wilco, Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, Sinead O'Connor, Fall Out Boy, Mute Math, Plain White T's, the Black Crowes. Spoon, M.I.A., Common, Galactic with Mr. Lif and Lyrics Born, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and Tiesto, among others.

The lineup is broken into three sections, with most of the rock acts performing under "Le Ritual" banner and "Le Carnival" serving as the umbrella for the electronic and dance acts like Ghostland Observatory, Ska Cubano, and Quintron and Miss Pussycat.

"Le Flambeau" is the New Orleans and ethnic section, with Dr. John, Zap Mama, Toots & the Maytals, JJ Grey & Mofro, and Preservation Hall Jazz Band all slated to perform.

Some 90,000 fans attended last fall's festival, headlined by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Duran Duran. That turnout prompted organizers to expand the event from two days to three. The festival also ran three days in 2003.

A limited amount of general admission tickets go on sale June 29. Weekend passes will cost $100, while VIP packages will be available for $450 and provide access to a private entrance, closer parking, food and drink, and upgraded bathrooms.

Rage Against the Machine Rage Against the Machine

Rage Against the Machine earned acclaim from disenfranchised fans (and not insignificant derision from critics) for their bombastic, fiercely polemical music, which brewed sloganeering leftist rants against corporate America, cultural imperialism, and government oppression into a Molotov cocktail of punk, hip-hop, and thrash. Rage formed in Los...

The Smashing Pumpkins The Smashing Pumpkins

Of all the major alternative rock bands of the early '90s, the Smashing Pumpkins were the group least influenced by traditional underground rock. Lead guitarist/songwriter Billy Corgan fashioned an amalgam of progressive rock, heavy metal, goth rock, psychedelia, and dream pop, creating a layered, powerful sound driven by swirling, distorted...

Wilco Wilco

Wilco rose from the ashes of the seminal roots rockers Uncle Tupelo, who disbanded in 1994. While Jay Farrar, one of the group's two singer/songwriters, went on to form the band Son Volt, his ex-partner Jeff Tweedy established Wilco along with the remaining members of Tupelo's final incarnation, which included drummer Ken Coomer as well as...

Fall Out Boy Fall Out Boy

The four members of Chicago's Fall Out Boy came together in suburban Wilmette around 2000. Vocalist/guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist/lyricist Pete Wentz, drummer Andrew Hurley, and guitarist Joe Trohman had all been in and out of various units connected to Chicago's underground hardcore scene. Most notably, Hurley drummed for Racetraitor, the...

Ben Harper Ben Harper

Combining shuddering, groove-laden funky soul and folky handcrafted acoustics, singer/songwriter Ben Harper had cult status during the course of the '90s but gained wider attention toward the end of the decade. Harper combined elements of classic singer/songwriters, blues revivalists, Jimi Hendrix, and '90s jam bands like Blues Traveler, Hootie...
