T.I., Ludacris' manager scrap at industry event

Lyor Cohen and Chaka Zulu Lyor Cohen and Chaka Zulu

The feud between T.I. and Ludacris, thought to have simmered over the years, appears to be back at a full boil. T.I. and Ludacris' manager Chaka Zulu reportedly got into a brawl Sunday at a pre-BET Awards luncheon hosted by Kevin Liles of Warner Music Group. T.I. reportedly punched Zulu in the face and a small, brief melee ensued, with as many as 10 people getting involved in the fray.

The luncheon, called Make It Happen (after Liles' book of the same name), was aimed at power brokers, and actress Holly Robinson Peete was the guest of honor. Yung Joc, Musiq, Twista, Brandy, and Omar Epps were in attendance, among others. Ludacris and Zulu are said to have arrived about three hours into the event, with Zulu and Tip's altercation happening shortly after.

In a statement released today, Zulu's publicist called the incident "an unprovoked attack from the rapper [T.I.]," and said Zulu "was forced to defend himself. It's a shame that things like this continue to happen especially with the backdrop of an event that was about benevolence and charitable works. I'm thankful that all issues have been resolved."

Paris Hilton leaves jail

Paris Hilton leaving jail. Paris Hilton leaving jail.

If only this were the end of the story. A beaming Paris Hilton walked out of a Los Angeles County jail early today, officially ending a bizarre, three-week stay that ignited furious debate over celebrity treatment in the jail system. The 26-year-old celebrity heiress was greeted by an enormous gathering of cameras and reporters upon leaving the all-women's facility in Lynwood about 15 minutes past midnight. She had checked into the Century Regional Detention Facility late June 3.

Hilton smiled and waved as she filed past deputies and the media, her blond hair pulled back in a braided ponytail. Her parents, Kathy and Rick, waited in a black SUV. Hilton hurried to the vehicle, where she hugged her mom through the window. She did not respond to reporters' questions.

Suge Knight's estate goes on the market

Suge Knight in, umm, happier times. Suge Knight in, umm, happier times.

The nearly nine-acre Malibu estate of Death Row Records founder Marion "Suge" Knight has been placed on the market to help pay a long list of creditors he owes after filing bankruptcy. The Smoking Gun reported this week that Knight's home is being listed for $6.2 million by a local broker. Though the property listing does not identify Knight as its owner, it does indicate that the sale must be approved by a bankruptcy court.

Knight has been in a financial mess for more than two years. In 2005, a judge ordered him to pay $107 million to Lydia Harris, a woman who claimed she fronted Knight the seed money to start his Death Row empire. But in early 2006, Knight filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to halt Harris' attempts at getting paid, and to maintain control Death Row Records. Knight still lost control of the label in July 2006 when a federal judge ordered a bankruptcy trustee to takeover Death Row Records.

Foxy Brown reportedly mugged

Foxy Brown Foxy Brown

Foxy Brown was reportedly jumped and robbed by four people in Brooklyn over the weekend, but the embattled rapper said it was a case of mistaken identity and that she is fine. Police said that Brown--real name Inga Marchand--was robbed of a Louis Vuitton bag and $500 in cash and credit cards around 5:30 a.m. Saturday. But Brown later told the New York Post, "A lot of the time, people mistake me for someone else, or people always call in these false tips." Roshawn Anthony, 23, was arraigned Sunday on charges of robbery, assault, and grand larceny in the case.

Brown is on probation for assault and facing a battery charge. She pleaded guilty in August 2006 to misdemeanor assault charges stemming from a fight with salon workers over payment for a manicure in New York in 2004. She also faces charges of battery and resisting an officer stemming from a February 15 incident in Florida in which she allegedly threw hair glue at a beauty shop employee when he asked her to leave because the shop was closing. That case is pending.

Flavor Flav ordered to pay $1.8 in shooting

Flavor Flav Flavor Flav

A New York state judge has ordered rapper Flavor Flav to pay $1.8 million to a neighbor he allegedly shot at 10 years ago in a Bronx apartment building. The New York Post reported this week that Flav must pay former neighbor Thelouizs English, who claimed Flav shot at him in the Executive Towers apartment building where they both lived in 1995. The rapper denied the claim but was convicted of a weapons charge related to it and sentenced to two months in jail and three years' probation.

Flav reportedly plans to appeal the decision this week, claiming Judge Dianne Renwick shouldn't be allowed to make the call because she is married to Bronx DA Robert Johnson, who tried to put the rapper behind bars a decade earlier, but failed. The latest ruling stems from English's 1996 civil lawsuit against Flav, who was ordered to pay English $850,000 for civil assault and battery--$350,000 in compensatory damages and $500,000 in punitive damages. Given the interest that has accrued since that time, Flav currently owes English nearly $1.8 million.

The Donnas regroup, form own label

The Donnas The Donnas

Following a turbulent run that saw them split with Atlantic Records following disappointing sales of their last album, San Francisco-based rockers the Donnas have regrouped and formed their own indie label in a joint venture with Redeye Distribution, which will release their currently untitled next album in mid-September.

The Donnas seemed on the cusp of stardom in 2002, when their label debut, Spend the Night, sold 424,000 copies. But the 2004 follow-up Gold Medal moved only 87,000 copies.

Couple Flavor Flav's legal woes with that abysmal live "performance" by him at the PE show in San Francisco last December, and you might as well lock him up for life.
