Ginger, Sporty, Posh, Scary, and Baby appear together to announce short world tour that will kick off December 7 in LA.
Looking more like robo-boobs and her quartet of homely backup singers, the Spice Girls appeared together for the first time since 2001 to unveil a brief world tour in support of a new greatest hits compilation.
The tour will kick off December 7 in LA and include 11 shows in eight countries, and filmmaker Bob Smeaton will make a feature-length documentary about the reunited girl group.
With Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham clad in an outfit that made her breasts the center of attention, the quintet--now more Spice Women than girls--said they reunited because of the strong influence of their manager Simon Fuller and to "celebrate the past.
At a press conference in London's O2 arena, all five singers--Geri "Ginger" Halliwell, Melanie "Sporty" Chisholm, Melanie "Scary" Brown, Victoria "Posh" Beckham, and Emma "Baby" Bunton--appeared together for the first time in public since 1998, when Halliwell left the group.
"You need a man with balls of steel to get us back together," Halliwell said of Fuller.
The group said the reunion is unlikely to become permanent.
"We just want our kids to see what we do," said Beckham, who is married to soccer superstar David Beckham. "I might even get to be the cool one in my family for once."
The Spice Girls will perform, beginning with a concert December 7 in Los Angeles. The tour will press on through Las Vegas (December 8), New York (11), London (15), Cologne (20), Madrid (23), Beijing (January 10), Hong Kong (12), Sydney (17), Cape Town (20), and Buenos Aries (21).
"We're celebrating the past," admitted Halliwell. "But if new fans want to come along that's fantastic."
