Moby reveals strange exchange with Rove

Karl Rove Karl Rove

When he's not operating the world's most dangerous puppet strings, Karl Rove is apparently sending correspondence to bald, militant vegan electronic producers who think he's the devil. After he revealed to Politco.com that his mom once gave a baby up for adoption and he therefore has a half-brother somewhere, Moby joked, "Maybe it's Karl Rove."

Then a funny thing happened: The producer received a strange letter from the White House. "The envelope looked as if it was from 1952," Moby told the Web site of the letter he received from Rove. It read, "'Dear Moby (or is that Mr. Moby), It's not me. I have no musical ability and am 19 years older (assuming you're 37). So you can breathe easier. On the other hand, (Democratic political strategist) James Carville is musically inclined and bald, too. Do you like crawfish étouffée?'"

"Needless to say, I was a bit stunned," Moby told the Politico.com. "A letter from President Bush's brain? The man without whom [Bush] would be doing the alligator on the floor of a Hooters in Biloxi? I was also a bit stunned because the letter was funny."

Spice Girls unveil concert contest

Spice Girls Spice Girls

Do you want to live in Spice City? It's not a place, but more of a feeling, really. The reunited Spice Girls recently unveiled an 11-date tour throughout the world but don't want to leave out fans living in cities that aren't on the trek. In a post on the group's Web site, the girls unveiled a contest that will allow one city to be added to the list of tour dates that currently includes Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York City, Buenos Aires, London, Köln, Madrid, Capetown, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Sydney.

"We've had loads of messages from people all over the world asking why we weren't performing in their country. It's impossible for us to perform everywhere but we thought why not let our fans decide where we play? This is your chance to turn your city in to 'Spice City!' All you need to do is tell us where you want to see us!" The city with the most votes will be added to the list.

Ja Rule and Lil Wayne arrested

Ja Rule and Lil Wayne. Ja Rule and Lil Wayne.

Rappers Ja Rule and Lil Wayne were each arrested for packing heat in New York City Sunday night, although in separate incidents. Ja Rule--real name Jeff Atkins--was arrested at around 10:30 p.m. Sunday on West End Avenue, with police saying that he was in a luxury sedan that was speeding. Police said they found a .40-caliber gun upon a search of the vehicle. Ja Rule had performed earlier in the evening during Lil Wayne's solo show at the Beacon Theatre.

Approximately one hour after Ja Rule's arrest, Lil Wayne--real name Dwayne Carter--was allegedly spotted with another man smoking marijuana by a tour bus near 61st Street and Columbus Avenue, following his concert. The officers took the two men into custody, finding a .40-caliber pistol. Both were charged with criminal possession of a weapon and marijuana.

McCartney divorce deal finalized

Paul McCartney and Heather Mills have finally reached an agreement on their divorce settlement after months of negotiations. Under the terms of the deal, Macca will reportedly pay Mills a total of $140 million broken up into an initial payment of $30 million, with an additional $7 million every year until their 3-year-old daughter turns 18.

According to UK media reports, Mills had initially sought $300 million from the legendary musician. The settlement allows the estranged couple to avoid a trial that would have kicked off in February 2008.

Karl "Raving (Mad)" Rove likes Moby, huh? While the Rover is a raging lunatic, like the Grinch there may be a tiny bit of decency in him after all.

Or not.

Moby was one of the most controversial figures in techno music, alternately praised for bringing a face to the notoriously anonymous electronic genre, as well as being scorned by hordes of techno artists and fans for diluting and trivializing the form. In either case, Moby was one of the most important dance music figures of the early '90s,...

Spice Girls Spice Girls

Spice Girls were the first major British pop music phenomenon of the mid-'90s to not have a debt to independent pop/rock. Spice Girls use dance-pop as a musical base, but...
