Owner of late Grateful Dead guitarist's California home is selling loads of household items.
What better way to mark your endless devotion to late Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia than by picking up his trash compactor as a family heirloom?
Henry Koltys, the man who bought Garcia's Marin County, California home from the musician's estate two year after Garcia died in 1995, has placed a slew of the home's household items up for auction on eBay, hoping to raise money for a children's charity.
Those items include a trash compactor, three sets of bathroom faucets, a kitchen sink, four wall mirrors, a two-person Jacuzzi, granite countertops, and--wait for it--a bidet from Garcia's master bedroom suite.
But it's not all Home Depot fare, as the auction also includes two stereo speakers, a CD/DVD cabinet, and stereo equipment.
Koltys sold Garcia's toilet and other fixtures at a similar auction, fetching $2,500 last year. Like that auction, this one will benefit the Sophia Foundation, a San Francisco Bay Area nonprofit that aids children and families during marital separations and divorces.
"This charity auction allows me to combine my interest in protecting and helping these families and my love for Jerry Garcia's music," said Koltys, who is the foundation's chairman and the developer of KidsFirst! software. The items will be auctioned on eBay on Aug. 12-19 and can found at the auction page.
Garcia died of a heart attack in 1995 at age 53. Koltys bought his Marin County house from the musician's estate in 1997 and put the fixtures in storage before renovating and reselling it.
