Gift from Vatican Radio comes preloaded with Catholic radio stories and classical music from the likes of Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Stravinsky.
Pope Benedict XVI became the world's holiest iPod owner late last week, jumping into the digital music game with his very own 2GB iPod Nano.
The pope received the brand-new iPod nano during his visit last Friday to Vatican Radio headquarters, home to the Vatican's religious programming.
The white 2GB Nano, engraved with the words "To His Holiness, Benedict XVI" on the back, came preloaded with Catholic radio stories and classical music. The selections included classical works by the likes of Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Stravinsky.
It also included a German program that focuses on the historic papal transition of April 2005 and a 10-minute program on the making of Vatican Radio, with actual sound clips from the inventor of the radio himself, Guglielmo Marconi.
"We don't have a huge gift to give to the pope, but we do have small signs of our work" to give him, Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, Vatican Radio's general director, told Catholic News Service.
Vatican Radio offers podcasts in eight different languages, so the German Pope will now be able to download Vatican podcasts from iTunes.
Upon receiving the iPod Nano, Pope Benedict said, "Computer technology is the future," according to Catholic News Service.
