Fringe Benefits

Stan Winston special effects creator passed away at the age of 62. If you haven't heard of him maybe his work might be familiar to you. He created the endoskeleton for The Terminator (1984). He worked on James Cameron's Aliens (1986) and won his first Oscar for Special Effects. Some of his work includes including Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands, John McTiernan's Predator, Alien Nation, The Monster Squad, and Predator 2. In 1989, Winston made his directorial debut with the horror movie Pumpkinhead. In 1990 James Cameron called upon Stan's expertize for T-2 Judgement Day, this would win Stan two more Oscars one for Best Makeup Effects and Best Visual Effects. In 1992 he teamed up with Tim Burton for Batman Returns with the marvelous Penguin and Catwoman characters he received his sixth Oscar nomination. In 1993 Steven Spielberg called up Stan for Jurassic Park winning another Oscar. The man was unstoppable. Nominated again in 1998 for The Lost World and finally in 2002 for A.I.: Artificial Intelligence. In 2001 Stan was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. He also worked on the Terminator 4 project. There will be a clip shown at the premiere of The Dark Knight. He did many more films from the 80's to 2000 I think alot of you will be surprised by this man's resume. Rest in Peace and thanks for the awesome legacy you leave behind.

T-4 Poster

I just watched J.J. Abrams pilot of Fringe, and I can say without a doubt be prepared it's definitely going to be a huge success. That's if you love action/adventure/mystery/sci-fi/romance all wrapped into one amazing program. You can view the pilot online HERE.

There are a few familiar faces and some interesting new casting. I'm not going into detail about the pilot you will have to find out yourself. All I can say is that I was blown away.

Csat of Fringe

Anna Torva plays FBI agent Olivia Dunham and Mark Valley (ex-Boston Legal) plays John Scott. Joshua Jackson is Peter Bishop.

Lance Reddick and John Noble of Fringe

First up is Lance Reddick. The star of HBO's The Wire and of LOST he will take on the role of a Homeland Security special agent who specializes in paranormal events.

Next is John Noble, who you should immediately recognize from his role as Denethor in Lord of the Rings. He will be taking on the role of one of the central characters, Walter Bishop father of Peter Bishop as the scientist whose crazy ideas have left him institutionalized, but which also may prove to be the answer to the sudden outbreak of paranormal events.

So the season finale of Battlestar Galactica was on Friday and I was humbled beyond belief, when you see something so good and so brilliant it literally makes me feel small and insignificant, BSG truly had it's shining moment. Thanks Ronald Moore.

Yes it seems it's been a Sci-fi couple of months for me. I really find it's getting deeper and more thoughtful not as ridiculous as the cornball shows from old. Not to say I don't love those too, but each merits their own fanship.

Fear Itself episode The Eater

The phrase "Only Thing We Have to Fear Is Fear Itself" was used by President Roosevelt during his first Inaugural address. FEAR.

CBS this fall has these new shows on their schedule. They are The Mentalist starring Simon Baker (formerly of The Guardian and Smith), Eleventh Hour and Harper's Island.

You can view previews for CBS new series HERE.

Sybil

Continuing on the strange and unusual, they remade Sybil. Remember that 1976 EMMY winning tv movie starring Sally Field and Joanne Woodward, well this Sunday you can watch the Jessica Lange and Tammy Blanchard remake. I remember being very shook up when they original aired.

The Andromeda Strain

Tomorrow the two-part, 6hr mini series The Andromeda Strain airs on A&E. Written by Michael Crichton, this book made it into motion pictures in 1971 directed by Robert Wise and starring Arthur Hill, James Olson and David Wayne. To put it simple the book was amazing and for it's time put a spin on all the scientific research gone bad theme which was something new. Remade for television by Ridley Scott & Tony Scott this cast includes Benjamin Bratt (formerly of "Law & Order" and "E-Ring"), Christa Miller ("Scrubs"), Eric McCormack ("Will & Grace"), Ricky Schroeder ("NYPD Blue" & "24"), Andrew Braugher ("Homicide: Life on the Streets"), Daniel Dae Kim ("LOST" & "The Sopranos") and Viola Davis ("Traveler"). Phew pretty amazing cast~. Also wanted to include that it is directed by Mikael Saloman who was the cinematographer for The Abyss and Backdraft so the series is in very capable hands.

You can view a trailer of the mini-series HERE.

Mini series The Andromeda Strain

The story is about a team of scientists investigating a deadly disease which is wiping out humanity.

James Olson (one of my all-time favs) was in the original, I highly recommend it. Take into account it's done in 1971 before all the special effects, it's the story and acting and characters which carried the original to success. Can't wait to see this series tomorrow and Tuesday.

Michael Crichton The Andromeda Strain

I don't want to give anything away but I also recommend reading the book.

The Andromeda Strain 1971 DVD cover

Or rent the 1971 film.

You can view the trailer with comments by director Robert Wise HERE

The Andromeda Strain screen shot

Even if you're not a fan of Science Fiction, this is more real than anything we all have heard about viruses getting out of labs. Or diseases coming from an unknown source. This is a gripping tale of human struggle for survival, friendships, deceit and death.

Hope everyone in the USA are having a safe and fun Memorial Day Weekend!

The House of Vultures

Some of you may have heard me talking about the House of Vultures. It's an old rundown farm house just outside of town (about 3 minutes from where I live). So named by us because for the past 8 years Turkey Vultures have made this their mating house usually on the chimney. It's really an amazing site to behold but difficult to photograph, they are a very nervous predator. So the shots are taken by my hubby (I'm the worst photographer ever unless you like headless shots!). The Turkey Vultures are currently roosting in my 60 foot spruces and cedars. They do that every year because it's the perfect vantage point to see everything. Needless to say I'm not to happy about that but it's only for a short time then they head off to the House of Vultures. And by the fall they return with their youngun and show them the tree line. Argh! They are really interesting to watch and I have observed very peculiar tendencies from them. If you get to close they will throw up on you and it stinks! Don't forget they are carcass eaters of exceptionally smelly rotten food. They urinate on their nests to keep anything and everything away, it's that nasty. Ain't nature grand! I still enjoy watching them, in the air they are poetry in motion and on the ground they're vicious carnavores.

And the Appalosa and her colt are taken from a nearby farm. As you can see we are pretty flat around here. We have Wind Turbines further down the road which are popping up at a fast rate. Yes being flat brings huge winds here. This is basically potato country but we have alot of horse farms, cow farms, etc. here. The other large industry here is fresh spring water which is bottled in the next town and sold across North America.

PS. I think they should make a horror film at the House of Vultures, it looks really creepy at night.

And Now a Word From Our Sponsor

Good Evening.

Alfred Hitchcock now a word from our Sponsor

As many of you know Alfred was famous for making fun of the sponsors of his television series' Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. I thought this picture kind of says it all. While the second of his series' isn't as good as the first it still has it's merits. I think because of the success of Twilight Zone he tended to go and little more sci-fi in his episodes. Entertaining they were, great they weren't, but still enjoyable to watch. There are several well-known actors that appeared in the second series, so your turn to guess who.

Alfred Hitchcock Hour Guest

Clue: If your feeling a little blue go to New York.

Alfred Hitchcock Hour Guest 2

Clue: I'm ready for my closeup Mr. DeMille.

Alfred Hitchcock Hour Guest 3

Clue: Survey Says...

So how did you do? Are you able to connect them to their various shows and series'?

Alfred Hitchcock Rifle

Hitchcock should have made a movie called, The Man Who Never Smiled starring himself.

You can watch The Alfred Hitchcock Hour online HERE, I really recommend seeing the Master at work he really was the best. Good Evening.

About Me

Website:
http://community.webshots.com/user/aprilfool58
There's nothing Alien about me, only that I would Die Hard for a great flick. Whether I'm going Over the Rainbow in the Wizard of Oz, or in the gripes of King Kong. I'm a sucker for Sellers, The Pink Panther, The Party, A Shot in the Dark. It's all great entertainment. Present day joys include, Chicken Little (which I have seen countless times). I'm basically a movie nut, I like and watch all genres.
