I've had my e270 for a couple of months. For music, it's a nice player. I don't see the point of watching video on a screen the size of a matchbox so I don't use it for that. It allows you to playback its substantial library in many different ways, and the volume levels have two settings (at least in the US), so the people who think it doesn't have decent volume probably have the lower setting selected. My main complaint is the aggravating 'pop' sound it generates between tracks when I plug it into my vehicle's sound system. Secondary complaint is the proprietary USB cable it uses. I do like that I can replace the rechargable battery myself.
