Monster Hunter, oh how I love you.
I recently wrote a review for Monster Hunter Freedom Unite for the PSP, (it's not there yet I don't think, it better show up, what ever.) In the review, I pointed out that I love, respect, and honor what Monster Hunter has done, and that in a blog id actually explain that in detail, so here I am.
First let me say that I am not blinded by my own guilty pleasure, I can tell that Monster Hunter has many issues in the sense that the combat can make you want to rip your hair out, that most games are just updates off of an older version, and so on. I give most every MH game an 8.5, for the average gamer, but for me, Monster Hunter is 9.5 and higher, why? Because I believe, fully, that well we have games like Final Fantasy, Draqon Quest and other great RPGS pushing the RPG genre, and then we have Halo, Half Life 2, and so on, pushing FPS, I feel that Monster Hunter has pushed adventure further then most games have. I know that Zelda games are awesome, but just there is something that MH gives you that no other game does in this genre, and that's the feeling of godlyness.
Monster Hunter is the type of game, that when you start it up for the first time, select new game, you are going to be worthless technically. You will have the hardest time killing things, you will have no gear, no money, no wisdom, and most of all, no understanding of the complex game that is Hunting monsters. If you are fearless enough, and have enough patience, then you can get all the way to the ending where you face off against such creatures known as Fatalis, and more. These ending monsters have god like status as well, which makes the battle, either alone or with friends, such a moment that it's hard to describe. It's like you have finally arrived, here you are, against the big cheese, no games anymore. He won't run, he wants you dead. Though this isn't the only thing I mean by god like status for you.
It also goes hand and hand that once you have become so great in the game, gone so far, that if you look back at the troubles that were, at once impossible, they are now so easy that you do them just for parts or money. The best moment ever is when you partner up with true noobs to the series. To you, they are the fragments of your past, reminding you of what you once had to go through. All their complaining, all their anger was once yours. When they meet the Rathalos for the first time, and you are standing beside them, not even flinching, it truly does make you feel like, you are some type of warrior that no one can mess with. It might sound pathetic, to be talking about a game in such a passionate way, but perhaps that is the mystery to why some people simply don't get Monster Hunter.
In the end, to best describe it, it's as if Monster Hunter is the best example of making you feel like a character, man or woman, that is unstoppable. When you pull your great sword, or gun lance, or fork and knife (ha) and take on the creatures before you, blocking their attacks and getting pushed far yet your armor makes it childs play, you recover with out a sweat, as your noob trainees are being thrown around. It makes you feel like a Solider First Class, like Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7, it makes you feel like a Captain in Bleach. Like a high rank ninja in Naruto, like Goku in Dragon Ball Z.
This is the passion that Monster Hunter gives, and I put my sword on the line that says, a good percentage of fans, that play Monster Hunter, all feel the same way. This is why I love Monster Hunter, I love seeing the reviewers give it 7 out of 10, or sometimes as low as 5. It shows they simply don't get it, and the game is far from broken if so many fans are enjoying it, here, or mostly in Japan. It is hands down one of the best selling games for PSP, and not because it's too hard or too broken. It's just simply seperating the weak people who can't enjoy a hard game, like the games of old, and the people who truly sink their teeth into it. The game has pulled no strings, it's hard, and it knows it, every MH game that has come out, has never made the game easier, or at least too much easier. I hope it doesn't become like some of the games that had almost impossible releases in the past, and then their counter parts in the now time are easy.
An example of another game that has remained hard, is Ninja Gaiden, though I still believe the original is far more difficult, or at least it was when first playing it. Either way, honestly, if you feel like you want to try out the world of Monster Hunter, give it a buy, Freedom Unite is only 39.99 here in Canada. It's not too expensive and it's a good side buy, compared to the games that are now 60+ dollars. If you get a wifi Max (not sure what that is, ask me) and Xlink Kai, you can play the game online, it's a 60 dollar tool but, it's only for the hard core fans so don't worry about it, but if you do give me a message. Though I'm mostly only interested in noobs since I have my own hunting party of higher levels. Either way, thats the world of Monster Hunter, it isn't going anywhere, and I never want it to.
The Games I am Looking Forward To
Alright, since everyone is doing this, I guess I will list some of the games I am waiting for, or the games that are already out that I really want to play. I'm not going to take this blog post seriously, meaning if I spell something wrong, or some such thing like that, I won't care enough to correct it. So if you're one of those people that goes ape over errors, this is a heads up.
First game on my list is "Monster Hunter Freedom Unite" for psp. I simply can't wait for this, I am a huge MH fan and enjoyed the PS2 games, and the PSP installments. I'm one of the people that gladly put 200 hours or more into MH, and just simply couldn't stop playing it. MHFunite has some new interesting features, (like your cat partner, oh yeah) If you are a fellow Hunter, let me know, I believe this game franchise is becoming more and more popular. Not an easy game, that is for sure, it's a game that really busts your balls, though that is the reason why people like me play it. We don't want easy controls, we don't want easy bosses or enemies, we want to sweat and bleed for our rewards. Only a Hunter or old school gamer will understand this. If you are the type of person that gets back up after being knocked down, give MH a try, seriously.
Another game is, as funny as it is, Monster Hunter 3 for Wii, I won't say much about it though mainly because I already talked about Unite, but I like how more and more Monster Hunter games are coming out.
I also want to try Ghost Busters, it sounds neat and I grew up watching the movies, loved the comedy and the FX, the story and music. As I type this, the theme song is actually stuck in my head. The online for PS3 and Xbox360 sounds simply awesome to me, being able to catch ghosts with friends, I just find it sad that the PC's online got shafted, but it's also only 29.99 brand new, so what ever.
Assassins Creed 2...I want this game badly. I actually never played the first one until recently. I had other games I wanted to play and some gamers gave such negative reviews, I thought it would be best to avoid it for the time. Now that I have played it I..just can't believe I listened to them. It's such an awesome experience. The complaints about the repeating game play things, come on seriously..almost every game repeats. Though everyone has an oppinion, I'm just happy mine isn't theirs. So heres to looking towards AC 2, looks good so far.
Final Fantasy has been part of my life ever since my parents bought me the first one for Nintendo, way back on some random easter holiday. Not even kidding, I forget how old I was, I forget the year, but I got it. Didn't know what it was, didn't know hwo to play it, and hated the crap out of it. It wasn't until I got FF7 that I realized the name was familiar, and that i owned the first one. I beat FF7, went to FF1, played that, then went up from there. I enjoy FF, it's not everyones prefered RPG brand but It's part of my childhood in some weird way. FF13 is looking pretty snazy, and Versus looks amazing as well. Along with Dissidia..wow going to be getting my FF fix soon.
Of course I can't forget about Alan Wake, the new MGS games..there is wayyyy too much to list, even Splinter Cell's coming back..I just can't take it..I'm going to be broke.
Anyway, I can't think straight right now, 2:30 in the morning haha, I was bored. The next reviews I plan on giving are for infamous, and Prototype..so if you like those games or are wondering about them..check out my reviews. I also want to do a blog debating the differences between the two games. So look out for it.
Albert Wesker, arch villian yet?
I wonder, I wonder if we as gamers see Albert Wesker as an arch villian yet? The list of villians that really changed or moved video games forward in their respected genre or all of gaming, is long. Names we simply can not forget. Like Bowser from Mario or Gannon from the Zelda games. We have, Sephiroth, Kefka, Shredder, M.Bison and the many other big fighting names from Street Fighter that appeared over time. You know, I'm not even going to talk about the list because really, the lists possible length could be endless. It's all about the players I guess and their own opinions, so really the list could just be a few names, or into the sky.
I think there is one though that everyone see's as cool, but not really a villian, and that is Albert Wesker from resident evil. I don't know why, maybe it's just me who doesn't see him as a villian. It puzzles me because he has been through all the logical steps to become one. Don't get me wrong, he is for sure the bad guy, but Umbrella in a whole seems more like a villian, more than Wesker. Nemesis seemed more a villian than Wesker ever was. Could be because through out the history of games, Wesker only appeared in a few, and in the new RE5 Wesker plays well, the villian role. He is there, you need to get to him, and kick his ass. In this Re he is actually there...in the others he always played in the shadows.
He seemed more like the 2nd final boss before the end one. Being before Umbrella in a whole, or more so the character with all the cards, but in the end being owned to Umbrella. Though if you play the games more and really get into the story you start to realize just how important and powerful Wesker really is. The question is though, is this new Wesker in RE5 really an improvement? I'm talking like, funky battle suit, trench coat, and these new flashy shades? What happened to the Wesker with his black uniform in Code Veronica? His black shades..this new Wesker seems like a reject from some type of fashion reality tv show.
He also has way too many powers, as in being able to basically move so fast you can't see him. How did he get that fast? What next? Will he be able to fire beams from his palms? I could believe his super human strength in Code:V because of the injection, but now he just seems to be a druggy, taking new experimental shots, in the end making him a fusion between The Matrix and his former self. In the end though, is he still "The Cool Guy" like he was in re1? I don't know, it's hard to know.. his cool and bad ass value for me has kinda decreased. Mostly because he now has people working with him, following him around, and you know where he is. I want Wesker back as in, you never know what he is up to.
If you are going to make us fight him in a RE game, then make it the last fight, and after make Wesker die. RE5 in a whole shows old RE enemies, and shows the connection between RE4 and the others. Just Wesker got a bad dose of queer eye for the straight guy, Neo taught him how to fight, Chris got into steroids, Jill watched too much Americas Next Top Model and thought blonde was the way to go, and we got a random new character who is more cliche than a box of cheerios.
In the end, Wesker needs a good part soon, seriously. It seemed like they tried to make him be more of a part of the story, but they could have done what they did, with Wesker behind a TV screen. As soon as you fight him and actually hurt him..well..Wesker aint a god no more. He was more of a god in RE1, and he did not even have any super strength. How? Because he was simply the guy with the shades, pulling the strings, and making your entire party go through hell and he moevd through the mansion and so on, totally un touched and always got the drop on you. Well that is until the ending but still..oh well.
Time is Ticking.
Everyone on the face of the planet has something they are interested in. Something that..they even obsess over, could be anything from books, video games, movies, authors, girls, boys, pens, cars, it is endless but it is also something that divides us. Before you continue on reading though, let me just make one thing clear so no one gets upset, confused or angry. This is a blog post that will not deny religion but as a means of power, out performs that of a god or godly figure in many religions. This is an opinion of science, so in this writing I am not de-bunking or trying to attack any ones religion. I understand that it can be mistaken as such, but as such is not the case. This also has nothing to do with games or politics of any shape or form or very little, so if you are still interested, please keep on reading.
From what I was talking about before, something I obsess over is Time. Yes, Time, something so simple as the measurement of passing hours, minutes, days. You might be wondering, even more so if you are a member of the younger gamers out there or blog readers, what is so special about Time? Why does Time have a capital T when you write it? Well I will tell you why as long as you sit back and take in what I'm trying to say and don't go over bored with it. See this as..a tid bit for your brain to digest and think about. First off, the reason why I am writing Time with a capital, is because Time is an invention, a name for something that was invented a long time ago.
People can argue about if there is suppose to be a capital T or not but that is not what I'm trying to bring out here, Time is in fact something we created. As a species, we developed this way of measuring the passing years. You might be saying, well what about other species on other planets, they would have Time as well right? Wrong, they won't have Time, they would have something similar but it would not be called Time. They would call it what ever they want in their native language, but then you might go, well wait. Isn't time just that..something that passes by as in, in Time people grow old? First off to continue in this blog I will have to explain, that Time is just the name we gave to this grand scale that is ticking in space some where, so we, as a species, could understand it.
We knew, a long time ago, that we grow old and die, but it wasn't until we developed Time, did we start asking...how long do we have? Interested now? It makes you wonder, was there always this ticking sound that we all hear? Or did the creation of Time spark our doom? So let's go back to the basics here, when humans first came to life on this planet through what ever ways you want to believe, we simply did not know that there was a grand scale of Time. The sun rised, set, over and over but just like anything else..it was just that..the sun moving. Then..like a spark of life, we found Time. The first way's of keeping track of time were classic..shadows created by the Sun, so it's almost like a gift from that beautiful giant star.
If you are the type of person to shrug things off, and all you care about is your next pay check, or your next game, then you really won't care about this at all, but if you are someone like me, you will already be thinking away. Time is everywhere, it's in our minds, on our wrists, in our games keeping track of our progression, always watching, and never letting us go back. Did you even notice that in all the troubles in your life? Did you ever notice that well life might be hard, and the economy might be dropping, wars, that we can't go back? This is what we are..this is the mark we leave, this is your life, my life, our life as a species. Time was always here, watching the dinosaurs even, they just were not aware.
Though look at us, we know Time. That is how great we are, that is our POTENTIAL. We know, something that no other species on this planet know about, we have descovered the grand father clock of life. What do we do though? We spend our Time on worthless matters, over money, fame, is it worth it? When you are on the last few minutes of Time, on your death bed, will this all be worth it? Time does not care about you, or your desires, it just knows that it's ticking away and you are running out. The moment you are born you are put on a limit, like a battery. It might be harsh but it's the truth, you are dying the moment you are born.
Even so, I can't continue with this, because I could talk for hours about Time and what we as humans are doing with it. I guess in a way, I can't blame anyone, it's who we are, only reacting on the last few ticks of our clock. Moments before humans are gone, we will realize what we have done and try to save our selves but Time simply will not care. In this sense I believe that, Time is the ultimate force, it can not be stopped, it will always tick, tick, tick.....what are you going to do with your Time?
Xbox 360 and gamer tag.
So I finally got my hands on an Xbox 360..an elite actually for only 260 dollars (With tax included) got it used but its in good condition and it keeps it self pretty cool so I'm guessing it's not going to die on me too quickly, that and I have it off the ground with pads under the corners..being a pc guy I keep all my things clean, blowing them out with compressed air and so on, Xbox will get no less treatment so I'm not exactly fearing the red ring. Anyway my gamer tag is
Duplex Burkhard, I only own Dead Rising though, you can blame that for me getting a 360..after playing the Wii version I just had to get the 360 for it. I already own Gears of War on pc but if you can recommend any other good Xbox games (Not halo please, not a fan) then just add a comment or add me!
Time to get a 360?
Yep, it's that time, time to get a 360. I have a PS3, Wii, now I need a 360. I told tons of people before, "Oh dno't worry im no fanboy, I will get 360." and they just went, "na you lie."
Anyway, the reason behind this is not any of the xbox 360 shiny exclusives, truly, the only games I want for 360 are, Gears of War (1,2) Dead Rising, and Fable 2. Truly thats it..maybe some RTS games here and there since PS3 seems to be getting the shaft in that regard. The true reason to why I'm getting a 360 now is, two things. The red ring has been fixed, since June 8th 2008 with the new Jasper mother boards which stops the motherboard from waving, bending, from over heating. Which was causing all the red ring mayhem. Thats good news, the other reason is that my beloved Crystal Edition xbox died last night, at about 1:20 AM.
Yep, R.I.P Xbox, I was never a true fan of the Microsoft side of town, mainly because I just naturally trust Sony, its like a child growing up with a parent. You trust that parent, no matter what. I grew up with Sony ps1 then ps2 now ps3. So it's not really anything negative TO X box or Microsoft, I just prefer Sony. but thats not saying I didn't have fun with Fable, Kotor 1 and 2, and some other games only on X Box (im aware fable went on pc and such) Yep so to continue my decline to the dark side in Kotor 2 I will need a 360. Only 299 for the pro, which is not that bad. Added to the fact at Future Shop you don't pay for 3 months. So...really, I'm not losing here. I guess this finaly means I will be getting my RTS games on Xbox as well. Thing is, my PC is pretty strong and can play RTS games pretty good, so im not worried about red alert 3 or star craft 2. I wish they would make more RTS console ONLY games like Halo Wars. Not a big fan of the Halo universe but the RTS might be good.
So, I might be collecting peoples live ID's so watch out!
Capcom, Diving into the Unknown, or the Known?
Konami, Square-Enix, Bungie, Capcom, oh the light goes on, and on. Trust me, I tried to find all the video game developers and companies, all that stuff. Enough to go around the table a few times, I might say. Though, one company seems to be standing out, at least in my mind. Capcom, dear old Capcom, how my memories with you, stained my mind, almost as well as the blood of zombies in Resident Evil, stained the ground. I can safely say, Capcom, that every developer, company, what have you, had an interesting affect on me in my life time. Square, gave me Final Fantasy, which made me turn into a kid, who spent most of his time day dreaming. Konami, you gave me Metal Gear, which made me debate if I should break some guys neck, or stick to the shadows. Westwood, you gave me incredible RTS games, rest in peace. Though, don't worry, Capcom, you were the first to scare the crap out of me.
It all began one day, in 1997, when I got my first PlayStation with Final Fantasy 7. I was just re-entering games, and, well I am old enough now, naturally, back then, I was not so brave. I went to Block Busters, to rent a game for my new PS1. I wanted something, that grabbed my attention, to, give me a new gaming experience. I enjoyed FF7, for sure, but I just wanted to experience this, new generation of 3D. So, what did I rent? Resident Evil, ah, the game that took my young mind for a ride. Sure, now days, Resident Evil is seen as action, heck, I see it as action, but when I was young oh boy, it scared me to death.
Go ahead, laugh at me I won't care, but when you're young and you see a zombie break someones neck, munching away, then turns to look at the screen. Well, haha, let's just say I never got passed the part with the dogs jumping through the window. Of course, I rented it when I got a bit older and beat the game easily, and oddly, most likely because of the past experience, Resident Evil is one of my favourite game series. When I get into my Resident Evil mood, stand back. I once beat RE1 for PS1, then the Saturn version, then the remake, then RE2, then RE3, then RE3 again on PC, then Code Veronica, one after another in a week, and too also add, when I log into Windows XP, I am greeted by the voice, RESIDENT EVIL, ripped right out of my RE disc for Saturn.
Ah, but I could go on, and on, and on about Capcom, but what I wanted to bring to peoples attention, if they haven't already noticed. Is how daring Capcom is being at the moment. They have a lot of big titles coming out, but oddly, some of the biggest ones are not the new games they are making, but the old ones they are reviving. 1942, and Bionic Commando? Oh heck yes, I will take some of that, and anymore classics Capcom remakes. I don't understand why gaming companies are trying to reach this, magical land of gaming. When truthfully, sometimes, all it takes is some mindless fun, with no actual storyline plot, and sub-par graphics.
Bionic Commando: Rearmed, is great. I keep playing it, beating it, then playing it again. The music is funky, the graphics, well not breath taking, are just perfect. The writing, ah, haha, I have laughed quite a few times at what some of the characters are saying. That is what a real game is, not saying that, Metal Gear Solid 4, or, Gears of War, are not games. Oh, they are, they are awesome games, but games don't always have to make you think, or try too hard, or try to force you into a world that you have to believe, in order to accept it.
If anything, Capcom is spear heading an assault, into our minds, and our pasts. They are trying a lot of new, daring, gaming styles. No, not talking about Resident Evil 4, or the upcoming 5. Although, they did revive that series in a way, for better or for worse. Personally, I preferred the old RE games, but that is just my opinion. I still loved RE4, for what ever that is worth. Though seriously, more gaming companies should stop trying to hike into the land of the unknown, and go back down from that huge mountain, to the world they have already been to. To take a break, to let their minds cool down.
What about a Metal Gear remake, much like Bionic Commando? Same camera view, just 3D. I would love that, possibly move then Metal Gear Solid 4. Add an on-line co-op, and I would basically be licking Konami's feet, well, not really.
I'm sick of it, the time to act is now.
That's it, I am sick of this, I am sick of the console wars. I am sick of fanboys, and yes I know, there is no way to stop what has become of GAMING. Gaming is in a sad, state. What happened to the days of the first Nintendo, and Sega Master Drive? There wasn't any REAL fanboyism at that point. Same with the Super Nintendo and Sega GEN, era. Was there fanboyism? Maybe a bit, more so about who was better, Mario or Sonic. I GREW UP in those times, I know what went on and I know what was a system, and what a game was, so I was happy. I did not require, anything, I did not require, having too bad mouth someone who owned a Super Nintendo because all I had was a Sega GEN.
I remember going to my friends house, who had a Super Nintendo, and playing FF3(6), and some other games, and he, was, at the time, my BEST friend. My one friend I would do everything with, every day we would be running around the park, playing catch, causing problems, or playing games. We were kids, we were young, but more importantly, we were friends, playing two different systems and co-existing. What is up now days, with one person buying a PS3 well, his other friends, own 360. So he gets shunned, called names? I have seen this happen, read about this happening, and it is stupid. So your going to throw away years of memories because someone bought a different piece of plastic, metal, and circuit boards? You are going to throw away someone, who is flesh and blood, like you, with the same memories, for something that has NO loyalty to you?
Why are fanboys so, dependent, on their status in the gaming world? Why do you care, if someone has something you don't. Wii, not the best graphics, but it's got some really fun games! I own one, I also own PS3, and I love it. Do I want a 360? Kind of, yes, but I don't truly require it at this moment since some games, and game types, are now coming to PS3 like RTS, and Bioshock. But, at the same time, I do not understand why people, on one side, have to say the other side have no games. It's like saying, when ever I turn on my Wii or PS3, I am not having fun. I am, a blast infact. You need to look past, the blurry lines, you need to understand a simple rule. Games are games, gamers are gamers. There are no hidden lines, no hidden areas. If we all just got along, started focusing on the prime fact that we are all gamers, then this experience would be swallowed a heck of a lot easier.
It's getting worse also, with every passing generation. What is it going to be like with PS4, and all the next systems? We already have people shunning others, beating others up, stabbing people for a certain game? What the hell has happened to us? What happened to the day where we would just get together as gamers, as a group of people. Sure, other things have debaters, people debate things about sports, or cars. But in sports, when someone has a favourite team, that's different. They are loyal to flesh, and blood. Somethings that happen arn't good, like, fights breaking out, but thats another story, that is seen in almost anything which equally has it's problems and should not take place, because it simply does not make sense.
What I am trying to say, in short, is that yes, this is rant, and yes this probably won't solve anything. Gaming, is heading down a dangerous path and I fear, that one day, I might just start acting like a fanboy also. Like some sort of disease, I almost feel like I can't run from it, and it's completely sick, and pointless. End, of discussion.
Your Life's a Script
Have you ever had those moments, when you awoke in your bed. You're ceiling fan was spinning on the lowest speed, and your blind was half way open. You would rub your eyes, and sit up, taking a look around your room, only to feel left out of some greater picture, some greater scheme. Like if something was keeping information from you, letting you stay out in the cool breeze of the night time air, to dry and become a coccoon of despair.
Have you ever had those moments, when you tried so hard, to do something right. Perhaps you were making too many mistakes at your job, and you just wanted to do something, to make up for it all. So you try and you try so hard, and yet, it's all balanced, and you make a mistake some where else. Maybe your family gets seperated from you, because your spending so much energy on your job, or your friends no longer phone you to hang out.
A time rises, that you might turn to something to take your mind off your life, like video games, books, or movies. You might get to attached to said games, and their characters. You feel like when Sephiroth tells cloud, that he is a puppet, that he is talking to you. Or perhaps when Master Chief, tells everyone, that everything is going to be alright in the thick of the mud, that he is looking at you. Almost like the entire world is moving around your self, and just about anything, can make or break you.
At this time, you might be having one of those moments, where you feel like, you just want to sleep, and take a break from this giant movie called Life. You might believe in free choice, but at the moment your only choice is to be happy and free, and yet it's not coming to you. It's ok though, no ones telling you to fight the fight, or push your self to hard to over come all of your life issues. You can sit in the corner of your room, and watch life pass by. Your life is just a script, it's just a script in a giant play, and there is nothing you can really do to change how your feeling, like you want to forget about everything.
But, truly, are you going to believe that? I don't, and I have had those moments, and if you had, maybe your problem is something deeper. Maybe something is missing but it isn't no script, and it is nothing that you can't get. Don't listen to people, that spout such crap, like your life can't be change or there is nothing you can do. Completely forget everything I just said up above, and only remember that even I, had a crap life at the starting, but now I am happy. What does this have to do with games? Actually, more then you might think. I turned to games to free my mind from my life problems, along side books as well, and of course friendship. So, are you going to really sit there and do nothing? If you are having one of those moments in your life, which some people like to call a crisis, then talk to someone who has made it out of such a pit. Even if that means sending me a message right now. Start to make a change, right....now.
The Most Persistent Bosses
Welcome to my ranting, about the persistent ones. Yes, those guys. The bosses in video games that never leave us alone. That make us look around every corner, around every object. Up, down, around, you just can't feel safe when your in their domain, and it just so happens that their territory is the game it self. In this little collection of paragraphs, I am going to detail the winners, my personal fav's, the bosses that I believe are the most persistent, and no Mario fans, Bowser just doesn't cut it. I know someone out there will automatically suggest Bowser but he has never actually been KILLED before. These bosses are the ones who have been slapped, beaten, blown up, tossed in acid, burned up, imploded, sliced and diced and even gift wrapped. So here we go, for the first one I want to start off with a classic.
RIDLEY

Occupation: A Leader of the infamous Space Pirates that cause 80% of all the crap in Metroid games. No one really knows for sure if he is THE leader, or if others are, like Mother Brain, but if anything it can be noted that he is, at-least, A leader.
Sex: Male ?
Age: Eck if I know, does anyone?
Fav-Activities: Going on raids with his Space Pirate buddies. P-ing off someone, that will later, in their adult life, make him regret it.
Fav-Food: Our investigator
Ridley, what to say about Ridley? I will try to explain it in the best of my knowledge, with out giving any specific details on story line of the games and such. Ridley first encountered Samus the heroin of Metroid, during one of her childhood I believe. Later on they fought, She won, this repeated multiple times. Ridley has been reformed into Meta-Ridley, most commonly known for in the Prime games, and a Mecha-Ridley, a robotic, security like, robot that was not Ridley him self. He is quite popular with the Space Pirates isn't he? To bad he can't do anything right. But heck, his main theme rocks and we all know it. We love fighting you Ridley, honestly we do. With out you, Metroid just wouldn't be the same.
Ridley often causes the story's to unfold in Metroid games, Super Metroid is a prime, haha prime, example of this. If you seriously haven't played any Metroid games, and never experienced a Ridley fight, then go now! My personal fav- run in with Ridley is in Prime 3 for the Wii, loved the free falling dual.
NEMESIS
Occupation: Truck Driver with an attitude. Oh wait sorry, his only occupation is hunting down S.T.A.R.S members.
Sex: We like to think male.
Age: Age is not a factor for Nemmy.
Fav-Activities: Hunting S.T.A.R.S members.
Fav-Food: Pizza, he seems like a pizza kind of guy.
Nemesis is the main villain in Resident Evil 3. He chases Jill and Carlos, through Racoon City. Believe me when I say that this guy doesn't know how to die. It's just not programmed in his DNA. You can blast him with rockets, cut him up, shoot a magnum into his head, run him over. Toss him in fire and acid and even fire an extremely powerful railgun into him. He just doesn't care, really he doesn't. Through the course of the video game, you will be running into zombies, zombie dogs, zombie frogs, zemesis, zombie worm thingies, Nemesis, a crazy mercenary, Nemesis, and zombies.
Once again if you have not played Resident Evil 3 then you have no idea what I'm talking about SO GET OUT! But if you have, then stay. Because we all know, the beloved fans of Resident Evil, that Nemmy means buisness. He does not stop, he can't be bargained with, he can't be reasoned with. He won't stop until your dead. The first time I played Resident Evil 3, I actually thought I was fighting more then one Nemesis. I thought he was mass-produced like the Hunters. But alas I was wrong, and out of ammo. If you haven't had the fun of fighting Nemesis, then go get a copy of Resident Evil 3. Buy it, borrow it, what ever. It's fun, and always a pleasure to match up against Nemesis. Atleast for me it was.
SEPHIROTH
Occupation: Ex-Soldier, highest rank, and bad ass.
Sex: Male, and all the females know it O.o or something.
Age: Some sources say, in all seriousness, that he was 56. I'm not sure where I read that but I'm just going to with that. But in my opinion he doesn't look 56. Then again he isn't really pure human so who knows. If anyone knows an actual OFFICAL age of Sephiroth, then please by all means send me a message.
Fav- Activity: Never actually doing anything, but for some reason people have seen him do it. Geez he has a lot of followers.
Fav-Food: He doesn't eat. He is one of those guys, where you just don't picture him sleeping or eating or anything.
Now I know not everyone is a FF fan, let alone FF7 fan. But I am not being a fanboy, infact I despise fanboys. But in all honesty Sephiroth does deserve the title of persistent. He basically died, came back, died, and came back. Good enough for me, but not only does he come back, it's the manor of HOW he comes back and his attitude. A lot of fans in the FF world can't decide if Kefka is the biggest bad ass in FF history, or Sephiroth. I can say though that Kefka was a normal man, twisted and purely evil. But Sephiroth was also insane, evil as-well. Sephiroth's child hood for the most part of the known story, was basically torture in basic terms. He was used as a test subject in different well tests, and injected with Jenova cells well he was still in side his mothers belly. Whether his name is talked in glory, or pure hatred, there is no argument here that he IS one of the most famous villains ever to come into video game history.
There are MANY more bosses out there that can be labeled Persistent. Why don't you talk about the ones you believe deserve that title in the comments? That is, if I get any readers hahahahhaha, ok not funny but anyway. Hope you enjoyed the read, and just to note again. Bowser was persistent, but just wasn't one of my favs.
ENJOY
Why I would not want to be a Reviewer
Hundreds of painful jobs in the world. You got construction workers, window washers for though darn tall sky scrappers. You got car repair, pilot, soldier. Lets face it, none of us WANT to go out and fight in a war, but sometimes we must. Me personally? No I have notgone to war yet, but if I was approached because my country needed me, then I would have no choice, it's the honour code right there, and yes I am Canadian. So a lot of jobs to choose from, but lets not forget one important job that most of us all rely on. That would be Reviewers. Video game, movies, anything that has to be reviewed for us so we get just a PINCH of warning before we go ahead and buy or rent, or sell. We all sometimes get annoyed at the scores some of our favourite movies or games get, but honestly some need to realize exactly what a reviewer has to do.
When you buy a game for your PS2, Xbox, PS3, 360, or the Wii, you just pop it in. That's right, you heard me, you just pop it in and play it. Heck if your lucky, you might have done research before hand, reading reviewers, finding out whats good and bad about a game, you know the normal research. Ok so where were we, oh yeah you just pop the game in and you play it. You might even beat it if your good enough, then what do you do with it? You might play it again, sell it for credit on a new game, or stash it away because MAYBE you might just want to play it again sometime. Let's not lie here, video games, or movies, are extremelyimportant to our lives. They arn't life or death but when we are bored and about to consider committing murder (joke), video games and movies save us from our selves.
They let us jump into a world, a world we can make our own, (The Sims, Sim City, Fable, the upcoming Over Lord, those darn Final Fantasy's, Zelda, and MGS to name a few). So here you are enjoying your self, running through the plains on Epona, or summoning Nights of the Round Table to show Sephiroth that having one wing isn't better then having two. Or maybe your hiding behind a corner getting ready to make that classic UG UG UG UG UG UG SNAP on another soldier. What ever it may be, your enjoying it for some reason or another. You might be a returning fan of the series, or you read a "review" and you saw the high score and you wanted to try it. Those games I listed always manage to get high scores. Why you might ask? Some like to say they are over rated, but let's try to be serious here, just because someone, or a large group likes a game, doesn't mean its over rated, it just means to fits into more peoples opinions then others. Halo anyone? A lot seem to think that game is over rated, but it's not, it's made for those sci-fi lovers or people who enjoy that type of graphical art or so on, but in truth those games get high scores because the dev team has experience, that's all. Their is no over rating, there is just skill, and opinions. The term over rated is just a secret weapon people who don't enjoy the game, whip out in their final defense. The term under rated, is the same-thing just the other way around. Face it, your either playing a game that a lot of people love, or your playing a game hardly anyone loves but you do, in both cases your going to get attacked, so just enjoy your game.
Now you might be wondering why you read all this. Where is this going? What does this have to do with you not wanting to be a reviewer? Well I will tell you. In most cases, reviewers can't just go home and pop a game in and enjoy it. They can't just waste time and play games on-line and push the other stuff aside. They actually have to play a game and "look" for the bad parts. Do you do that? Do you go around as Solid Snake and try to find glitches in walls or ammo supplies or graphical errors? If you do, you might want to be reviewer. I have reviewed some games, not professionally, just for my self and my friends and others who read, and I do take it seriously because you have to. Someone is going to readyour review and expect to hear the good and the bad, so you have to deliver. They give Zelda a few marks lower then what you would have wanted, or they point out to many cons in Halo, or they butcher a Final Fantasy. Are they doing it because they hate the game? Maybe in some cases but in most, they have to look for those cons.
Go to one of your favourite video game reviews right now. What did it get? Did it get any cons, did it get a low mark, possibly one that is lower then your preferred one? Well before you start to hate the reviewer, think to your self, can it possibly be that THESE CONS they have listed are there? Don't be a fanboy, come on, admit a game has a flaw, I do it all the time even to my most favourite games. Let's try Final Fantasy 7, let the fanboys become enraged as I point out flaws in this game. The graphics is one, not don't get me wrong, I love chibby animation and I think it totally rocks, but that in no way means they couldn't have made it cleaner. They might not have had time to finish the graphics or polish it up, but they could have extended the release date to make the game even better. I'm not saying get rid of the chibby animation, I am saying, let me see their mouths, or buttons on their clothes, or fingers. When I got to the final battle with Sephiroth, the graphics were INSANELY on drugs. Anyone have that experience to? It was like nothing I ever had seen in the game till that point. So I say, why not use that model of cloud in all the battles? I know they might have wanted to give the final battle extra flair, but seriously, for me at-least, if they would have had just a tad bit better graphics, I would have enjoyed it a bit better, and I'm not even one of those people who love graphics over everything else. I love the games story, music, character back grounds, and Sephiroth is one of my favourite villains. Just for me at-least, I wanted a bit more out of graphics. But its OK, Final Fantasy 8 gave me that.
What I am just trying to say, is that no game can be perfect for everyone, and you need to realize that for a reviewer, sometimes it is not always pleasure to play a game, some times it's a job, and maybe some people should just back off a bit, and think for a moment, that maybe they are right, just MAYBE, my favourite game has cons to it, but that's perfectly fine.
Atheno's Gaming Animal Kingdom Journal
Journal Entry # 1, June 22 2007.
Dear reader, who ever has found this journal.
I have found an interesting creature within the journeys I have taken in the gaming world, and chose to name it, by its actions, Differentous Opinionous.
This strange creature usually is grouped in small numbers if not alone entirely. It often finds shelter with in the forums of the not so loveable games, an example can be Chaos Legion. A mediocre game at best, with many issues and repeatitive game play, yet the Differentous Opinionous finds enjoyment. Well there is nothing wrong with this, as all seek their own opinion with in any category, it can't help but be seen as strange. How do they find enjoyment in something so plain? I have studied their ways and have come to a recent conclusion of the matter.
The Differentous Opinionous enjoys a game no matter what the other viewers tend to say about it. They are low in numbers but they make up for this with a keen senseof what is fun and what is not. From them I have learned a great deal, including the many facts that not all games get their enjoyment out of the final score they get on a website, but by what you experience well playing said game. It can be the laughs, or the emotions you capture. Thanks to the Differentous Opinionous I have realised that any game can be fun, even if it scored the all time low. The recent discovery of this, has led me to try any game that I have laying around or can fine, even if it got a bad rating, and play it. To my surprise these games are indeed fun, well not ground breaking by any means they do offer some enjoying hours. I can't stay in the same spot to long, for, like any wild creature in the gaming world, I can not stay in their view for longer then a few hours. They do not like to be bothered by people like me who have only, till recent date, tried the high scored games. I have noticed, that the Differentous Opinionous, well dormant and gentle, can be quite angry if challenged by the other creatures who tend to attack nothing but their opinions on their life style. Interesting I must say.
That is all I can write as of now, I will be looking for some more creatures in the Gaming Animal Kingdom.
