Big McLargehuge

After coming back and exclaiming that I would be back to posting blogs, you may have noticed I quietly disappered again. For some random reason, I was unable to get onto a few random websites at work any longer, Tv.com being one. And then, just as suddenly, I was again. Go figure.

Today I would like to take a moment to pay tribute to one of my favorite shows no longer on the air. Mystery Science Theater 3000 . It was perhaps one of the most random yet funniest shows with the smallest budget imaginable. If you have never seen it before, walk, don't run to Youtube and check out any clip. Last night I was checking out some old MST3K clips and ran across one of the funniest episodes I'd ever seen and almost forgotten about it. The episode featured the movie Space Mutinay. And every time the main character came on, the MST3K boys invented a new name for him. Check out this quick clip for a montage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFHlJ2voJHY. And please be sure not to drink while watching.

Here is the full list of names:

Slab Bulkhead
Fridge Largemeat
Punt Speedchunk
Butch Deadlift
Bold Bigflank
Splint Chesthair

Romance, Sarcasm, Math and Language

I have a new favorite Internet comic. And that is saying a lot, cause I read a lot of them.

Image Hosting by Picoodle.com

It is terribly smart with a lot of clever humor mixed in with a heaping helping of agnst. Here's the link: http://xkcd.com/

Other recommendations include:

Penny Arcade
Ctrl Alt Del
Basic Instructions
Diesel Sweeties
Backwards Compatible
Garfield minus Garfield
Experience Points

Got any for me?

Random thought: One of my coworkers is wearing a sweater today that looks like she has mutilated a muppet then stapled it to herself. I cannot take it/her seriously and plan to attempt to avoid her the rest of the day because of this. I so wish I could post a picture, but that would require taking a picture of it and I cannot figure out an excuse to do so. Just trust me, it is horrid.

Is there anybody out there

Well, I guess I am finally returning from my self imposed ban. Ever since the site changed it has not been nearly as fun coming on here. Seems like a lot of my friends took up and left and those who didn't weren't terribly happy either. But anyway, I've decided that no one in charge really gives a flying flip about how the community feels, so if cannot beat 'em, join 'em. I haven't had much of an outlet for blogging and I do miss it, so here we go, back into the swing of things...

Well, not quite yet, but I am making a formal annoucement that I plan on being more active in the community again. I have been reading what blogs people have been post, but I will begin commenting again. And thanks to Meghan and her Survivor: Solomon Islands game, I am back on the site on a near daily basis. I do have a few blogs in mind but right now I just do not have the time or energy to delve. First and formost, I plan before the week is over doing a tribute to one of my favorite shows that is now sadly over. But until then...

So, what has been up since Sept?

PS: Did I mention I still hate the new site format?? Cause I do...

Top 5 Changes

Welcome back everyone! I almost went crazy yesterday not being able to look at the Heroes forum, esp after another incredible episode featuring my two favs, HRG and Sylar. But I digress, back to the business at hand.

Top 5 Changes that need to be made:

1. I know you will hear this time and time again, but the white background and small greyish font is making me go blind. Really, it is horrible to try and read and I get a headache looking at it too long.

2. Put the About Me section back to the side and not right on top with a huge distorted icon. Most of the people who's blogs I look at, the new blogs are the important thing to see, not their profile which I have probably already read several times. Plus, this may just be a bug, but that huge icon is horrific and the scale has changed from a small square image to a large rectangular one and just looks awful. Removing this section and moving to the side would also free up room for us to see the entire new blog on the page without having to click on Read More.

3. Please make it so it shows 10 tracked blogs rather than 4. I track quite a few people and find myself missing blogs I really want to see because of this.

4. Update the news on the my feed. Seriously, one of the items on my feed is about Alec Baldwin yelling at his daughter, a story from more than a year ago and another is about the "new" exciting season 3 of Doctor Who... and umm... let's put it this way, season 4 has already finished...

5. Make it so you can see the number of comments and how many are new in tracked blogs again. I love this feature. There are so many fascinating conversations that end up in blog comments and I feel that this was an extremely useful and fun feature that was eliminated for no reason.

These are just the top five items that I would like to see changed and do not include the numerous bugs that I trust will be worked out in time. With this said, as someone who works as a web designer who recently completed a redesign, I understand the necessity for change. But with change, it is important to make sure that it is change for the better, not just for the sake of change. And there are some things that I do like about the redesign. I love the new color coded key on the forums is great for example. But the key to having a great site is to make it fun and function for you users, something that this redesign has not done. Yes, the shows are important, but it is the community that makes TV.com what it is. And without the community, it cannot survive. Please show us that we are important, and take our constructive criticism into consideration.

I will leave this up for the rest of the week and be back to blogging on a regular basis next week.

Take care all my friends!!

Oh, How Sweet It Is!

I haven't been much motivated to post a blog for awhile and am about to dissappear for a few days, so I figured I should say something so you all don't think I just dropped off the planet.

Tomorrow morning I will be leaving for my sister's wedding extravaganza. She is having a "destination wedding" which I'm pretty sure is French for "this wedding will be inconvenient for everyone." The wedding will be held in Hershey, PA (and no, no one involved in the wedding lives anywhwere near there. In fact, all of the immediate family, including the bride, lives in SC). And not only does everyone have to travel for it, the wedding is on Friday, so everyone, guests and all, absolutley have to take time off work if you are going. It is being held in the Hotel Hershey Rose Garden so there was a pretty steep price difference between a Friday and Saturday wedding. I will give you a quick idea of the cost, the hotel where the wedding is and where as a member of the wedding party I am staying in is $300 a night. Here is the hotel fyi so you can see what $300 a night gets you.

This wedding has been in planning for over 2 years now, so in a way, I will be kinda sad that it will be over. The whole thing has taken a sort of absurd life of its own due to the sheer amount of detail and planning that it takes to pull off such an extravagent "destination wedding." It has been a source of exasperated amusement. One of those, you laugh so you don't cry things. But then again, on the plus side, I will be getting tons and tons of chocolate this week!!!

I will give a full account when I return, which will not be until late Sunday night so that is where I am.

Take care!!!

I just purchased Arctic Monkey's first album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not from ITunes and I can honestly say that each track is amazing, not something I can say about many albums. They are a fairly young band with most members still in their teens that hail from England. Their first big hit was I Bet You Look Good which is amazing, but far from their best. And they have managed to do something that many young bands that hit real big real fast have not, release a second album that is even better than their first. Their first two releases from this album, Favorite Wost Nightmare, (which just came out in April), Brainstorm and Florescent Adolescent are already in heavy rotation on the radio.

So check out Arctic Monkeys. Some other of their great songs to check out are Fake Tales of San Franscisco, Leave Before the Lights Come On and A View From The Afternoon. And here's to hoping they make to to the SouthEast sometime (yeah right). A girl can hope can't she.

What can I possibly say about Counting Crows to convey just how momumentally awesome they are? I've been a fan since the first time I heard Mr. Jones back in the mid-90's and have adored each song I've heard since. No other band puts on a live show like Counting Crows either. I've seen them live 5 times and each time they play a song, they play it differntly and perhaps even better. They don't play a set version of their songs that they have rehearsed over and over again and it shows. Each time they play it is a new experience that they are sharing with the audience and not just an "act" like so many bands do. Be sure to check out: Anna Begins, Colorblind, Round Here, Omaha, Holiday in Spain, 1492, Einstein on the Beach... heck check them all out. You will not be disappointed.
