No Deals! this week folks, sorry.
It's That Time Again! Wii vs PS3, COD4 and the Oscars!
Well it is that time of the week again and I'm ready to post my weekly Space Blog. A few things happened this week worth talking about, if you've been keeping up with my posts you'll have an idea already. First off I'll probably give my thoughts on the Academy Awards, that shouldn't last long, then I'll let you guys know how I feel about my most recent purchase Call of Duty 4, after that I'll be getting into the real meat of the blog with another dilemma. So I guess I better get started here.
Like I said first I'll be talking about my thoughts on the Academy Awards or Oscars, which ever you'd like you call it. I can't say I disagree with any of the choices because I really did love There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men, so I was content with either winning. Although it does seem like There Will Be Blood got a little ignored, sure Daniel Day Lewis got best actor but that was obvious. I'm talking about the film, it was incredibly good yet received, I think, only one Oscar outside of Best Actor. Although had it received more No Country For Old Men would have probably received less considering they seemed to be competing. Either way I'm pretty happy with the results. Although that isn't, to me, what the best part of the night was. Anybody who watched probably knows already how emotional the Best Song category became. I couldn't have been happier with the results of that, and then Jon Stewart amazed us all and brought Marketa Irglova(forgive me if that is misspelled) back on stage to give her thanks. It was an all around good night.
So on to my thought on Call of Duty 4. I must say I am pleased I bought it, if not only because it will be known as Game of the Year by most and it is probably good to have around. On top of that I have been having some serious fun with the multiplayer. I played through the single player way back in November when I rented the game, but I didn't get to spend the time with multiplayer I wish I had. As of now I am level twenty eight, brilliant ranking system by Infinity Ward there, the unlockables are fair and rewarding, they never feel like the higher level players are getting too good or rewards.
Now on to the most important part of this post, what system should I buy next? The choices are Wii and PS3, I already own a 360. Originally I was planning on a Wii because it is cheaper and its games are vastly different from the 360's games. Then a couple days ago Sony announced the Metal Gear Solid 4 and DUALSHOCK 3 bundle and now I'm leaning towards that. The PS3 still has plenty of games that different enough from anything the 360 has to offer to warrant a purchase. The PS3 is also easier to find and the cheapest BluRay player around(not that I'd be using it much). So I started setting money aside now, the new PS3 is rumored to come out around June so that is plenty of time to save up and make up my mind. As always I'd like to see your thoughts, please try not to make this a system war. Eventually I will be owning all of these fine systems, but I just don't have the cash or time to buy them all at once.
So that's it, this week's Space Blog. Thanks for reading and please keep comments civil. As always next week I'll be posting a new episode(number 3) of Deals! around Monday and another Space Blog toward the end of the week.
Until next time...that was SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOG!!!
Deals! Call of Duty 4 vs Frontlines outcome!
I'm sure some of you noticed the episode of Deals! yesterday(which has now been deleted) did not go according to plan. I had planned on doing Deals! and my Oscar predictions and choices all in one post but apparently the blog gods did not approved and destroyed half of the post. Now since the Oscars are over there is no point in me posting my predictions, although I will say that I am very happy with the outcome. Anyway I'll be going about this episode of Deals! and future blog posts as if nothing ever happened, infact the first half will remain almost identical to the original post. So lets get started.
One thing that could keep it short this week is all the lame deals. Best Buy had nothing special, only MSRP listed games and gear. A few okay priced movies and seasons, I think Flight of the Concords First Season(very funny show) being the best deal for $19.99. Best Buy also had a special on Frontlines Fuel of War, if you are interested it is probably the best deal for that game. It comes with a code for a free downloadable map, also with purchase of headset(wired only I think), either PC or 360, you'll get $15.00 knocked off the price. $65.00 is not too bad for a game, bonus map and a headset.
Circuit City didn't fair much better only offer some mildly decent deals on DVDs for $6.99, the theme was an Oscar inspired Academy Award nominated and winning movies, obviously some good movies were listed but $6.99 just isn't that great of a deal on DVDs anymore. If you are interested a few specific movies I saw were American History X, Fargo and Saving Private Ryan, I suppose it is worth checking out if you don't already own these movies. Circuit City also had a special on Frontlines, but instead of a map or headset all that is offered is a free soundtrack of the game. A soundtrack on a war game? I'll pass.
I was nearing the end of my weekly search when an unlikely candidate out of no where hits me with a both relevant and very attractive deal. K Mart, that dirty shopping center down the street(applies to everybody don't worry), managed to drop a few bucks on a very convenient deal, Call of Duty 4 for $39.99, that is $20.00 off regular price. Not only did this make my dilemma from Saturday's blog very easy to solve it was also a very good deal. I didn't even mention that Assassin's Creed featured the same treatment, although I'm not a "big fan" of that game so I was easily able to pass by its "less than $50.00" charm. Although if you are interested in that game at all you should act, it isn't likely to happen again.
So that is as good of segway as any to let you all know thanks to your help and K Mart's great deal I went with Call of Duty 4 over Frontlines. Don't worry Frontlines fans, I'm not giving up on that game, I'm having it "Gameflew" to me as soon as possible and you never know, if it impresses I may just click that tempting "keep it" button.
So that is it for this week's edition of Deals! much shorter than my original cut with Oscar predictions, but I think you'll get the point. If you did watch the Academy Awards last night please tell me what you think, I'm always interested in your opinions. Also if anybody is looking for some Call of Duty 4 action you can find my GamerTag on my profile page and feel free to drop me an invite. So I guess that wraps it up, I'll be posting my weekly Space Blog toward the end of the week and I expect it will have many a story from my Call of Duty adventures. Thanks for reading!
Remember that these ads and deals sometimes vary from location to location so always check your local store or online before taking anything I said to heart.
Call of Duty 4 has met its match!
Sorry about the title, but I really wanted some outside opinions and I knew something like that would grab some attention. Although Call of Duty 4 is one of the two games I wanted to talk about today.
Basically I have caved in, if you've read my past blogs you'll know I've been considering buying Call of Duty 4. However there is another game that I have been considering as well, Frontlines Fuel of War. I know that the demo wasn't exactly a critical success among the gamers, but I actually enjoyed it.
I suppose it will inevitably come down to what kind of reviews Frontlines gets, but I would really like to see what the community thinks, although I think I know already.
So what it is it, Call of Duty 4 or Frontlines? Please don't just say, "Call of Duty ownz Frontlines" because that won't help me at all. I'd like to see some legitimate reasons for either please. Thanks for any help!
Fable of Rock 2
So by now everybody has heard Gears of War 2 is coming out on the Xbox 360 in November. I'm sure everybody has some speculation and ideas of what will go into the game, but I think I'm going to keep my mouth shut, at least on this blog, as to what I think will be going in. However that doesn't mean I can't tell you guys I am really, really excited for this one. I wasn't the only person worried that the Xbox 360 wasn't going to have that one exclusive "killer ap" this year. Now that the year is coming into focus a little bit I think I am actually more excited this year than I was last year, I even changed my Xbox Live Gamerpic to show my anticipation for Gears of War 2.
Although Gears of War 2 was the big story yesterday at GDC another game I'm really looking forward to had some cool new information as well, Fable 2. Although I'm pretty sure it was eclipsed by the presence of that monster Gears I think GameSpot did a pretty good job of covering it. Basically the game had two new features announced, co-op and a Xbox Live Arcade mini game. Although the co-op seems to be the big story with the press, I really found the Xbox Live Arcade game actually effecting the full game once released very...cool. I for one will almost definitely be buying that Arcade game just to build up some money in Fable 2, because if I understand correctly money isn't easy to come by in that game.
On the home front, I just, for the first time ever got a chance to play Rock Band. I only rented it so I am not able to play drums, but the Xbox Live headset works fine for vocals and the Guitar Hero 3 guitar is supposed to be better than the Rock Band one. Either way the real reason I rented it was for the singing, I really wanted to take a shot at singing some of these songs. I must say it is really fun although somewhat embarrassing, I usually wait until the house is empty before playing and that rarely happens so this creates a problem. I am enjoying it and although I only rented the game I felt compelled to at least check out the famous downloadable content. Once I saw Fortunate Son I couldn't resist, although it isn't a version by Creedance the cover does a really good job.
Other than that I haven't been up to a whole lot, if you read earlier in the week you'll see that I bought Just Cause and I've been spending some time with that. I have been thinking of caving in and buying Call of Duty 4, but then I played that Frontlines game demo and actually enjoyed it. I guess we'll have to wait until next week to find out what I do, if anything.
Until next time, that was SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOG!!!
