It's That Time Again! Wii vs PS3, COD4 and the Oscars!

Well it is that time of the week again and I'm ready to post my weekly Space Blog. A few things happened this week worth talking about, if you've been keeping up with my posts you'll have an idea already. First off I'll probably give my thoughts on the Academy Awards, that shouldn't last long, then I'll let you guys know how I feel about my most recent purchase Call of Duty 4, after that I'll be getting into the real meat of the blog with another dilemma. So I guess I better get started here.

Lets go bowling!

Like I said first I'll be talking about my thoughts on the Academy Awards or Oscars, which ever you'd like you call it. I can't say I disagree with any of the choices because I really did love There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men, so I was content with either winning. Although it does seem like There Will Be Blood got a little ignored, sure Daniel Day Lewis got best actor but that was obvious. I'm talking about the film, it was incredibly good yet received, I think, only one Oscar outside of Best Actor. Although had it received more No Country For Old Men would have probably received less considering they seemed to be competing. Either way I'm pretty happy with the results. Although that isn't, to me, what the best part of the night was. Anybody who watched probably knows already how emotional the Best Song category became. I couldn't have been happier with the results of that, and then Jon Stewart amazed us all and brought Marketa Irglova(forgive me if that is misspelled) back on stage to give her thanks. It was an all around good night.

Falling Slowly

So on to my thought on Call of Duty 4. I must say I am pleased I bought it, if not only because it will be known as Game of the Year by most and it is probably good to have around. On top of that I have been having some serious fun with the multiplayer. I played through the single player way back in November when I rented the game, but I didn't get to spend the time with multiplayer I wish I had. As of now I am level twenty eight, brilliant ranking system by Infinity Ward there, the unlockables are fair and rewarding, they never feel like the higher level players are getting too good or rewards.

Nintedo Revolution...remember that?

Now on to the most important part of this post, what system should I buy next? The choices are Wii and PS3, I already own a 360. Originally I was planning on a Wii because it is cheaper and its games are vastly different from the 360's games. Then a couple days ago Sony announced the Metal Gear Solid 4 and DUALSHOCK 3 bundle and now I'm leaning towards that. The PS3 still has plenty of games that different enough from anything the 360 has to offer to warrant a purchase. The PS3 is also easier to find and the cheapest BluRay player around(not that I'd be using it much). So I started setting money aside now, the new PS3 is rumored to come out around June so that is plenty of time to save up and make up my mind. As always I'd like to see your thoughts, please try not to make this a system war. Eventually I will be owning all of these fine systems, but I just don't have the cash or time to buy them all at once.

Guess where I got this picture!

So that's it, this week's Space Blog. Thanks for reading and please keep comments civil. As always next week I'll be posting a new episode(number 3) of Deals! around Monday and another Space Blog toward the end of the week.

Until next time...that was SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOG!!!

Call of Duty is great with online! I like reading your blogs, very long and detailed. Also get a Wii because PS3 is similar to Xbox. Unless you are a die hard Metal Gear Solid fan!

Thanks! I am having a very difficult time with this choice. The fact that the Wii is so cheap makes it very tempting yet the PS3 seems like the "true" gamer's choice. I obviously need to do more research before making a decision, but I think I am handling this the right way. Either direction I go I'll be holding off until June, that way both companies will have a chance at E3(which I believe has been moved back to May) to convince me either way.

I got all three consoles and have got to say that the PS3 is better than the Wii. But then again, the 360 is better than the PS3. I will say that there is not alot on the PS3 that you cannot find on the 360. But then again, theres alot of good exclusives coming out for it this year i.e. MGS4 and Resistance 2. And the Wii has Super Smash Bros......and thats about it. As far as must own Wii games, the only ones that fall in this category are Super Mario Galaxy, No More Heroes, Metroid Prime 3, and soon to be...Super Smash Bros. Brawl. If your into online gaming such as I am, then you will be definately disspointed in this area as well as the fact that all the games run in a underwhelming 480P max. But me and Bone3593 share the same voice; PS3 has nothing that the 360 does not already have. The exclusive's are there but they lack sorely when compared to the 360's healthy stack of them. And when you get onto the PS Network coming from Xbox Live get ready for dissapointment. I went into the PS Network spoiled with Live and came into a bare empty world on the PS3's online. Sure its free but I would rather pay the 50$/year and get the waaaaay better service. All I can say is that the PS3 is a great system and so is the Wii. But when compared to the 360 they both fall extremely short in comparison. Definately buy one of them if not both. But don't buy them hoping to find something better than your Xbox. One up on the PS3 is the fact that its actually a pretty decent Blu-Ray player if your getting into the whole High Def DVDs. Let me know if you have any questions about the systems.

Wow thanks for the info EXxile, that really helps coming from somebody who actually owns all the systems. I know what to expect of PSN, I actually got my start playing online on the PS2, Tribes Aerial Assault to be exact, that game didn't even have communication, no text chat and no voice chat. Although that isn't why I am buying the system, due to my prp running out on the 360 I live in constant fear of the system dying and having to wait a month for a replacement, a month without any games doesn't sound good to me. Everytime I think about it I become even more undecided and now I have no idea what I'll do. I guess I am best off just wait until after E3 and then making my decision.

Yeah, no problem man. Its good to know that you already know how the PSN is. I completely understand where your coming from about your 360 just crapping out one day. Hell, I live in fear of that happening. But if that is the case, and you want a system for a good backup method if your 360 ever fails I would say the PS3. Mainly just because it has so much in common with the 360. Waiting till E3 sounds like a mighty fine idea, and at least you'll be able to see what the future holds for the sysems.

Exactly. I want to see what I stand to gain from buying one of these systems in the future. I know what games they have now, to be honest I'm not blown away by any of them(except maybe Super Mario Galaxy). If they plan on releasing some more interesting games for the Wii and cut the gimicks I just might buy one.

As much as I absolutely love the PS3 (it's my favorite system - but I use it for a lot more than just games, such as the blu-ray functionality and the extensive media file playback), I have to say that it may not be worth it - just yet, anyway. I had a 360 and PS3... Eventually, I took the 360 back. All the games were the same. It just wasn't financially feasible to really have both systems - not if money is an issue for your. Now, if money's not an issue, then by all means, go right ahead! But that's not the case for most of us...

As far as exclusives go, I'd probably actually enjoy the 360 exclusives more - thankfully, they almost all make it to the PC eventually. But yeah, in my case, I had to make a choice, and I chose the PS3.

In your case, you've already got a 360. You'd probably be better off going with the Wii. In my own mind, there isn't enough of a difference between the other two system's selections to justify owning both of them. Not yet. :-)

But, then again, it's your money, so take my suggestion for what it's worth. Probably not a lot. :-)

About Me

Alright since I'm taking my profile more seriously now I guess I can make this section semi serious as well.---------------------------- I have lived in Illinois all my life and unlike most people here I don't really mind it(I know my way around and that is enough for me). I am currently looking at colleges to attend once fall rolls around. Yes you guessed I'm going to college with hopes of a future in the industry we are all so in love with. I can only hope I learn to make games half as good as the ones I've fallen in love with.--------- Feel free to track me, I try to track back everyone who does, I'd prefer friends than stalkers after all.
