GoldenEye: A Four Frames Per Second Legend, in the trash

GoldenEye holds a special place in all our hearts. The golden memories of the old days where you and three buddies crowded around the TV, with the GoldenEye cartridge inside the N64, frantically swearing and shooting one another while screen cheating, will remain as one of console gaming's greatest moments. Since the launch of the Xbox 360 back in 2005, and the popularization of Xbox Live Arcade, gamers began to beg for a downloadable emulation of the infamous N64 classic.

This is something I just can't imagine to be a good idea. I admit yes, I would purchase GoldenEye for 800 points, or whatever. I would like to say I wouldn't, but I would need to settle curiosity.

People just don't understand one thing, Goldeneye doesn't hold up after 11 years. Yes, it's a phenomenal local multiplayer game, yes it was cool in 1997, but going back to it kinda leaves a bad taste when you get over the novelty of playing a fond memory. I mean you have to admit, GoldenEye basically ran at 4 FPS, the visuals do not hold up whatsoever in 2008, and the aiming is abysmal.

What made GoldenEye a fun experience is that it was one of the first good console FPS's, it was pretty (for its time) and it was a frat boy game. Playing an ugly, sluggish 11-year old FPS from the N64 era on Xbox Live, just isn't appealing. I feel that Halo CE took GoldenEye's place as the king of the frat boy's living room.

Either way, it doesn't seem like it matters. This generation of gaming might not see downloadable James Bond, due to licensing issues. Who saw that one coming? Unfortuanitly to those of you looking forward to GoldenEye on XBLA, it was canned. Bad enough, canned two months before completion.

If you feel it's necessary heres a link to an online petition to get the massively popular N64 title on XBLA.

Anyone up for a round of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 on XBLA?
