Resident Evil 5 & Red Alert 3 Review
Resident Evil 5
+ co-op gameplay online and offline.
+ 10 hour plus single player mode with a good amount of unlockable content that adds to the lasting value.
+ Superb graphics
+ Great Voice acting and good dialogue.
+/- Inventory System is real time and selecting weapons is quick, however the small size means alot of micro-manangement.
- Gameplay Limitations such as the fact that you cannot aim and move at the same time slow down the action.
- Stiff movement controls
- Basic close quarter combat gameplay
While it is missing some gameplay elements, resident evil 5 is a great game due to the introduction of co-op into the gameplay that is a effective element that adds to both the strategy and action.
Red Alert 3
+ Colourful, cartoon style visuals.
+ The 3 playable factions have both suitable and unique units.
+ The 3 Different campaigns are of decent length and have online co-op.
+ The Gameplay on the water is a great addition to the strategy and action.
- Team Balancing
- Gameplay pace and unit pathfinding have changed too much since red alert 2
Red Alert 3 is a bit dissapointing for me personally cause I really enjoyed red alert 2, it may have not had the best team balancing but the pace and style of the gameplay was easier to get used to, with red alert 3 too much has changed, it is a well made game, but I can see how fans of red alert 1 and 2 might be dissapointed by red alert 3.
Thoughts On Littlebigplanet
Over the weekend I got a copy of littlebigplanet for ps3, I played through all of the singleplayer and I have played a few user created levels online. Overall I think that it is good game that makes use of great ideas, cute characters and colourful, vibrant graphics, though at the same time the gameplay, camera and level design presented in the game is a mixed bag for me.
The problems that I have with the gameplay is the life system, which gives you 4 lives per each checkpoint you reach in a level, this is annoying because some levels layouts and the camera can lead to many cheap deaths. Another problem that I have with the gameplay is the limitatons of actions that the sack boy has in general, okay the popit is a useful tool, yet at the same time the sackboys miniscule jump and no form of attack contributes to alot of the easy deaths. The Camera in the game at times tends to get stuck and this can be annoying at moments when travelling around the screen, especially on the more complicated levels with obstacles everywhere this can lead to many cheap repeated deaths and many levels replaythroughs.
I don't believe this is the best game avaliable on the Ps3, though in saying this I will say that Littlebigplanet is a good game that makes use of the 2D platformer genre, a genre that is not being utilised alot since the rise in 3D video games, also the community is really what makes this game worth buying because there are alot of lBP gamers making great levels, the ones that I have played through have been based on video games and have been a great playthrough.
For me Littlebigplanet is a good 2D platformer that will be kept alive by the great community and downloadable content becoming avaliable overtime. In saying this I recommend that you buy this game only if you are really into 2D platformers and have a good internet connection because the community makes the game a much greater and complete experience.
Game Awards & Christmas Gaming
The Gamespot Game Of The Year was Metal Gear Solid 4. Excellent choice for game Of the year, I voted for GTA4 for game of the year but it was a hard decision to choose between GTA4 and MGS4, they are both brilliant games and are both reasons to own a PS3. Ultimately though I agree with gamespots decision for game of the year because the refinement of the core gameplay, memorable cutscenes, realisitic characters and excellent storytelling.
For Christmas this year I brought crysis warhead and got a copy of Left 4 dead for Pc, both games are really great games. Also Im playing Bioshock on PC at the moment and it is a impressive shooter, the plasmids and setting are really unique and the game is getting more interesting as I am playing through it.
I had a great Christmas and hope everyone else had a choice Christmas and has a great 2009.
I got a new computer & some games
Hey all, I haven't made a blog for a while so I'll blog about my gaming lately.
Firstly I got a New computer a month ago, Its an Awesome Dell XPS420 with some great specs for gaming
.
More recently than that I got 2 PS3 games and a PC game in the last week, for PS3 I got Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and Uncharted: Drakes fortune and for PC I got Unreal Tournament 3.
Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is a great entry in the series, so far I have played about half of the game and the gameplay while its the same as its always been thats not a bad thing because it is complemented by some fun, explosive gadgets and great graphics.
When It comes to Uncharted I must say that it is a really great game, the Gameplay is a combination of a variety of third person action and adventure games, which overall makes it a thrill to play, even more than the gameplay is the graphics which look exceptional, going through this game and looking at the environments is truely brilliant. I have progressed 48% through the game and it has been great, the story while simple is told effectively and the characters are believeable and have realistic dialogue to boot. I downloaded the Update for PS3 and the Uncharted update that implements the trophy system however the trophies are not showing even though I have completed some of the tasks, ah well I would not mind playing the game again at all, I recommend you try this game if you are looking to play a PS3 game, its really great.
Lastly I just got Unreal tournament 3 today and have played it for about an hour, The game overall follows the same formula that the previous entrys in the series have, and while it dosen't present alot new in terms of gameplay the gameplay is still as solid and action packed as it ever was and the games graphics look really nice, there is also a story in the single player which helps the series, even if it is a simple story. The game is missing some of the great modes that were in UT2004, but it dosen't stop UT3 from being a great sequel.
I am looking forward to the TF2 updates next week because the Heavy update is being released which will be choice, I am interested to see what weapons the heavy will get, but at the same time I am going to have too look out for snipers because I have a feeling that there will be alot of them.
Super Smash Bros Brawl Review
Pros -
# The Game has Great Graphics and smooth animation
# A big character roster featuring more first party characters and some third party characters
# The Single player modes, multiplayer modes, online, stage builder and unlockable content give this game excellent lasting appeal.
# The subspace emissary single player mode has some great cutscenes that feature great animation
Cons -
# The cutscenes in the subspace emissary don't have any character dialogue which would have made the characters and story more understandable.
# The cheap enemy AI, Bosses and some annoying levels bring down the gameplay experience in the subspace emissary.
# Clone characters
