Merry Christmas, GameSpotters, and othe Cnet folk.

Yup, that's my wish to you guys. I got early Christmas presents already. A 16" (instead of 11") tube TV, and a GameCube steering wheel with petals. I drive like I'm drunk when I use that thing for Mario Kart and F-Zero GX. I'm not used to it yet.

Whenever I observe holidays like Christmas, I always remember why I celebrate it to begin with. Jesus probably wasn't born on Dec 24th or 25th, but the point it that his birth is the reason we celebrate Christmas. It makes me feel a bit down when people forget it.
Like, in cartoons such as Spongebob or Emperor's New School (not a good show, I know) they don'teven tell you what Christmas is about. In Spongebob, Sandy just tell Spongebob some whimsical tale of Christmas-y things, neglecting the birth of Jesus Christ entirely. In Johnny Bravo's 2nd Christmas episode (best epsiode of the series), they said Christmas was a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus. They did well to do that, because without somuch as a mention of his birth, Christmas is so shallow, and, in essence, meaningless. Christmas time is suppsed to have a reason to be joyful. Not JUST giving and getting things you make or buy from a store. As the Grinch says, "Maybe Christmas means a little bit more." And it's true. There's a reason for this holiday, try not to forget it!
One thing that I didn't like was how I visited a few thrift stores and saw sevral nativity sets. Each of those complete sets were missing ONE PIECE! Wanna guess which piece that was? Take a guess, seriously.

The missing piece was the baby Jesus on EVERY one! It's the most important piece. Sheesh, why do people want to strip Christmas of it's whole meaning? It looks so stupid when the wisemen, shepherds, and parents are reverently observing... well... nothing!

Well, regardless of those things, I'm still gonna have a good Christmas this year. I hope you guysdo, too!

Yes, I agree with you. The world seems to be trying to ignore what Christmas is really about. Merry Christmas!

Merry Chrismas!!!!! !!! (getting a little exited)
I agree it seems todays society is cut off from the true meaning of christmas, iv'e not seen one religious thing at all exept in church (of course), it's terrible! Apparently it's politically incorrect to promote the religious side of it because of all the non-religious people, but it's a religious holiday, so they should either stop celebratibg something the don't beleive in or exept the true meaning!!! It's like Jesus has been replaced by a fatty pedo dressed in red !!!
I always remeber the true meaning of christmas, I just forget it when I open my presents, they thank Jesus, then play on/with them just enjoy myself, I make it as religious as I can, but I don't think I could pray christmas morning instead of opening the little suprises in my stoking, maybe both at the same time, what's it usually like for you?

Woah! Sorry about writing so much, I guess I got carried away, it's long enough to be my own blog post!

I agree with what you said there, it seems everyone forgets what Christmas is really about. Merry Christmas to you too.

I would agree with same as you! What else to me is not only baby of jesus, but also being together as a family to give care to each other (reasons why presents existed). Actually, tomorrow night on christmas eve we'll open presents then go to bed. ^_^

Merry Christmas DoctorEggman! ^_^ I'm not really used to seeing people NOT thinking that Christmas is about Jesus' birth because I live in a Roman Catholic community but from your side, it seems like quite a few people celebrate Christmas just to give and receive gifts. Hmmm, well, I guess some people do forget what Christmas is all about, it's about spending time with family and friends, laughter, joy, and yes indeed, the birth of Jesus.

Nice blog. It's sad but true. Although Jesus wasn't probably born on Christmas, it is still a celebration of his birth. Interestingly enough, before it became Christmas, it was a pagan holiday. If my memory serves, when Rome abandoned paganism and became a Christian state, they changed it to Christmas. Anyway, never forget the reason for the season!

I think that we all forget the meaning of Christmas, unfortunatly I also think I forget the meaning sometimes too.

About Christmas specials, the writers may want to avoid including too much religon. Just a thought. The Earthworm Jim tv show, actually said that Jim could only save the commercialism by involving Santa.

We can all try to think of why we celebrate Christmas and enjoy the holiday.

Yeah, well, mention of the reason why we celebrate Christmas isn't too much religion. But I see what you mean.
Posted 12/24/2007 12:23pm
Merry christmas, and I agree with you 100%.

Merry Christmas to you, too, man!

I am an aethiest. I don't believe in any of the Christianity stuff. I believe that Christmas is about family and friends, not the birth of some dude that never even existed. But hey, that's only what I say.
Posted 12/25/2007 9:28pm
Yeah, we all have our own reasons for our beliefs.

The reason why Christmas is celebrated on the 25th requires some research. One highly believed theory is that the Romans and others didn't record the exact day in which Jesus was born, but instead, they decided to celebrate it on the day of December 21st of that year (for example, Sunday). However, each Sunday of each year, that day would end up being the 22nd, then the 23rd, then the 24th, then the 25th, and at that point, people realized that it needs to be celebrated on a numerical day instead of the name of the day.

Oh yes, and merry Christmas.
