I Shine Amongst Chaos

Yea it's been almost a year since I've written a blog on here. 'Bout 8 months little more exactly. Still been hitting the site a lot and checking things out, readin' reviews checking the news, etc. Just haven't had blogging energy I suppose. Quick recap = I've been gaming, and writing. I actually did start writing that novel I was talking about here many long months ago, and realized writing **** is really alot tougher than I thought it'd be But, buddies have come around to help me out and correct my horrible grammar and completely lame character names so things are turning out decently. If I'll finish it or not, and whether its crap or not, is probably in the hands of the almighty at this point. But we'll see I'll donate a few bucks to homeless kids or something and light a candle or twelve at a christmas mass.

Anyhow, noticing the "Jeff got fired over Kane & Lynch" internet phenomenon, I figured it's the perfect time for me to start writing useless information on here again. Don't really know why, but I enjoy drama when it's not directly affecting me. That aside, it really did dissapoint me that Jeff got canned, same as it did when Rich Gallop poofed from On The Spot, him and Jeff were a pretty badass team. Kinda like Ren and Stimpy but not so....twitchy. They made me laugh my ass off more times than I can count, was simply a hell of a lot of fun to watch On The Spot and all the other crazy vid features they did together. It sucks, in the end though, with anything that lasts as long as Gamespot has people move on. Firings or upgrading paygrades or a simple need for something new, just the way things go. Either way I know Jeff is gonna move on to a great job, and I'm sure the guys left at Gamespot are gonna be able to pull something out of their collective rumps to maintain the quality of the site, On The Spot, and any other features taking a hit with the loss of Jeff. Furthermore, 30 years from now Jeff is gonna be able to tell small kids the great story of when he got fired from his job at Gamespot and the entire internet took a pissy fit, ran picket lines, inspired hackers, called in bomb threats to eidos, and damn near lit buildings on fire. I'd say that makes it all worth it, but I'm a pompous bastard so I dont know how far that'l go. As far as me personally, I'll back Jeff wherever he finds himself next, and I'll back the guys left working at Gamespot whether they remain here or go elsewhere. I trust the staff and their reviews here, and besides if I'm really unsure on the quality of a game, my tactic is and will remain - let a friend buy it first, then steal it for a few hours.

Anyway, back to my gaming front, the reason we're all here. In a nutshell, I've spent way to much goddam money this year and played a hell of a lot of games. I guess just going back to the summer, I've played Motorstorm, Company of Heroes:Opposing Fronts, Stranglehold, Overlord, Metroid 3, Warhawk, The Darkness, Bioshock, Puzzle Quest, Guitar Hero 3, hell of a lot of Madden 08 online, Halo 3, RE4 Wii, just to name some of it. Most recently I just finished Assassin's Creed, one of the best game I've played in a really long time. Playing through Mass Effect now on insanity, another badass game. Got Rock Band sittin' here completely unopened, havent had time and I wanna clear the last couple songs in expert GH3 before I get to it. Super Mario Galaxy remains unbeaten but I'll get around to it. My PS3 is basically a glorfied Blu-Ray player, own more blu-ray movies then I do PS3 games unfortunately. I've played a bit on the PC and Wii but my 360 definately gets the most play time as of late. Ah yea, I got 360 Red Rings of Death. Same one I bought on launch day finally died on me while playing GH3, had to send it back. Sucked, but I got over it quick. My computer had massive failure also this past month. Liquid Colling system somehow leaked and fried...well...alot. $1600 worth of alot. I cried in my sleep a bit.

I guess to close this really quick recap of my past 8 months, I'll honor Jeff Gerstmann in the only way I know how, cartoons. This one goes out to you, Jeff.

Mighty Mouse! Starring Jeff Gerstmann as Mighty Mouse; Cnet exec's as the ugly bad dudes.

End of an Empire

Rome

The final episode of Rome aired last night Even though the second season wasn't nearly as excellent as the first, It's still sad to see it go so soon...but they gave it a decent end. After season 1, I was hooked on the show. The scene where Vorenus jumps into the arena to save Pullo is one of the coolest fight scenes you'll ever see. This last season did disappoint me a bit though. It moved really really fast, went from one crazy event to another before you could figure out what happened with the crazy event from last weeks episode. Seemed rushed I guess, but it still had some great moments(Brutus walking alone into an enemy army was pretty badass). On another sad cancellation note, one of my other favorite late weekend HBO shows is also calling it quits this summer, with "two, 2 hour films" Deadwood will also be finished. No more Seth Bullock kicking the crap out of people. Sucks, but I have hope that something new will come along sooner or later.

Aside from that, I downloaded Worms off XBL arcade the other day. Brings back memories of the old PC version, running 4 player games where we all had to use the same damn computer and fought over two chairs, good times. I also finally got myself a new headset for the 360. Think it's been almost 4 months since the eh....accident...with my old one, so it's about time. With a little luck, history won't repeat itself and this headset will live a bit longer than the last one. For now, there's a curious george cartoon on tv and it's strangely drawing my attention......

Mass Randomness

Been in sort of a daze all week. Don't really know why, as far as I can tell im healthy, I have an unusual overflow of cash, and for the moment a hell of a lot of time on my hands. I figure its a bit of a downer since I went from working many hours a day over several long weeks to just sitting on my ass watching movies. My friends tell me I need to find something esle to do when I'm not working other than...well, watching movies and playing video games. I think their all idiots....what the hell am I supposed to do, take a dance class? Pssht. I like movies and video games, and dammit, they like me to.

And in that spirit, I went out and bought a bunch of dvd's. I watched Casino Royale, Stranger Than Fiction, Borat, The Departed, and Silent Hill. All of em were decent, The Departed was definately the best of them. A friend of mine has been bugging me to see borat for a long time now....it was funny as hell.....all the way up until the fat nude guy sitting on the face butt-cheek grabbing scene. If you were to gather together every gross, disgusting scene any comedian in the world has ever done to get a laugh, and then combined them all together into one long disgusting movie, it would not be anywhere near as utterly horrific as that scene in borat. Honestly, screw the "im burning" girl in Silent Hill, all they needed to do was add in a nude fat guy sitting on some other nude guys face for a couple seconds and they wouldve scared the liviing hell out of every single soul in the theater. I may never get that picture out of my head....

And on the subject of naked people, I did see an absolutely amazing movie the other day.

If you haven't seen the 300 yet, get your sorry self out to the theater and check this movie out. I loved every single second of it. And it's got one seriously vicious soundtrack, too

Changing the subject, on the gaming end I feel like I need a new first-person shooter. I'm playing a lot of supreme commander lately and it's a lot of fun, I've also been fiddling with GRAW2 but it doesn't really feel new.....I still play Rainbow Six:Vegas on live and I still love it, I just need something fresh and new to jump into. We'll see, I've been looking around to see whats coming out in the genre but it seems like the best of them are set for late '07 or just "TBA". Sucks.

Work blows...

...and every now and then, it takes me far away from my computer and more importantly, my gaming. But, I'm back! I never got the chance to post anything here on GS, I had to literally pack and get on a plane the same day I was told I'd be going on a trip, was not a fun day and it's been a loooong month. I just got back home this past wednesday, and I've been mostly unable to sleep since due to brutal jet lag, but I'm comin' around. I did find time to stop at the local ebgames and pick up Supreme Commander, GRAW2 and Bullet Witch Should occupy my attention for awhile and get me back into my old hardcore gaming self. I'll get some time in tomorrow on Xbox Live and catch up with everyone, fill most of you in on whats been up with me, and definately hop into a few games and murder some folk It's been to long! My poor 360 controller was all dusty when I picked it up yesterday for the first time in more than a month. It thirsts for blood.

I'm also gonna catch up with all my buddies here on GS. Yep, my useless-but-sometimes-funny-in-a-retarded-sort-of-way blog comments are coming back to haunt you all. No mercy. Anybody that knows a great game I missed let me know! For now, I'm gonna track people down and cause some trouble, and someday I might even unpack. Talk to all of ya soon

2007 : Fun? Don't Count On It

It's early, and I'm bored but have nothing of substance to write about, this is what happens.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, it's 2007. As we all know by now. I've seen many posts speaking about how great a year it's going to be...all the great games coming out and lots of shiny, happy, sunshine filled blogs about the great days to come. This...is not one of those blogs. Nope, I've decided I'm gonna talk about how bad of a year it could be. See, if you look around closely, very closely, you'll see small signs...subtle hints that things might not be so happy and cheery in the hours and months to cme. These are warnings, words from on high that speak softly to us, telling us the end is near. I'm going to share with you the signs I have interpreted as being a direct word from a greater power, declaring that 2007 might not be so....fun filled and exciting.

The First Sign

The Forbidden Rise of Google. Its everywhere, and its growing, and predictions are surfacing about what type of google-driven ad's we might see in the year of 2007. One such prediction, is that "by partnering YouTube and Apple's iTV, Google has you watching Ask A Ninja on your plasma". Hello, Google Video ads. And how would you like to download the latest most popular xbox live arcade game yet, based on Halo(you know its coming), only to have it coupled with the new "Google Toolbar" designed for your 360 dashboard? Dark Times indeed. Prepare.

The Second Sign

Emergence of the True Dark Arts of Scientology. The devil's happy religion. Ever see Tom Cruise smile, and suddenly see a remarkable resemblance to Jack Nicholson in "The Shining"? Jason Lee, Chaka Khan, Beck, John Travolta, Jenna Elfman, Kirstie Alley, Danny Masterson? Their building an army people. Chaka Khan is a friggin' tank in her own right, and it scares me to think what Kirstie Alley is capable of with the evil technology of Scientology behind her. Anybody else see her up on that roof with the assault rifle in "Drop Dead Gorgeous"? Not pretty. And we know that christian games are trying to make their way into the gaming market, what about scientology games? Ever wondered what might happen if Gears of War designer CliffyB was captured and converted by scientologists? Yea, Marcus Fenix and the boys of Delta getting gunned down during the Return of Xenu in Gears 2. Scared yet? I ain't finished.

The Third Sign

Wii-Mote = Growing Danger. The signs are everywhere people, you just have to pay attention. Wii Remotes are flying all over the dang place like friggin' ninja stars, taking out TV's, glassware, windows, pets....it's only a matter of time before some kid loses an eye. What then? How will Ninetndo explain themselves when little billy has a glass eye at 6 years old? Hell, you could be walking down the street one day minding your own buisness, when you hear a window crack several stories above....you look up, and WHAM. Wii-Mote to the face. You could be a vegetable. Still not scared? There's more.

The Fourth Sign

The Devil and Downloadbale Content. Several people have spoken of this recently, and it is indeed something to be feared. It's already starting, how many crappy additions to oblivion have you downloaded so far? Viva Pinata accessory packs? Could it get worse? Think, you've finally beaten your 70$ collectors edition of Halo 3 and put down your controller. You think you know the ending? Not! You login to Gamespot, and see..."Just in!, Halo 3 booster pack reveals the Cheif didn't kill them all!" A short teaser trailer shows a spray of gunfire, the Chief drops to the ground, riddled with bullets...you see his blood-spattered helmet rolling...then ends with "Coming 2008...Finish the Fight...Again" Only 3500 Microsoft Points via Xbox Live Marketplace!" Wow. It could happen. Be afraid.

The Final Sign

The Ultimate MMORPG. I know what your thinking. "God, what could be worse than having to pay for a dead Master Chief...". Oh, I'll tell you. This one might be a bit shocking, but it's something thats been on my mind for a long time and has been discussed heavily by myself and friends. With the amazing rise of games like World of Warcraft, one has to wonder, what can top WoW? I'll tell you. Jesus Online. This revolutionary new title, probably published by Sony Online Entertainment as they'll have nothing better to do once Vanguard tanks, will soar to the top of ratings charts and find its way into the homes of people all over the world. Amidst mass protest, debate and controversy, the game will prosper as religions from around the world will finally have a virtual arena with which to do battle, declaring ocne and for all which religion is the very best. Imagine it, PvP arena battles, the leading Christian guild "Heavenly Thunder" VS the daring "Hindu Heat". Public disbeleif when the pope, after not coming out of his room for two weeks, is found playing Jesus Online, screaming "You n00bs better not let these bastards capture our cross! Play intercept....stop kill farming! I will pwn you sixteen ways from easter sunday if you don't start healing NOW" While this may sound exciting, its not. The gaming buisness shrinks and slowly dies as more than 10% of the worlds public have active accounts in Jesus Online by the end of 2007, and play no other game, do nothing else with their time but battle online for religous rule. By 2009, Jesus Online is the ONLY game left. Now I know your afraid.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So you see, 2007 might not be sunshine for everyone, Happy days aren't here again, and this year could just be the beggining of the end, for us all.
