Missing TV.com
Well for some reason I'm in a mood to blog today. It's been quite awhile that's for sure! I think I noticed it was time to make my profile page all Christmas-y and that just got me in the mood. I did reuse the banner I made 2 years ago though, but I like it so might as well make good use of it!
Quite a bit has happened since last time when I wrote about my best friend's wedding (which was amazing by the way). First off I got a new job. At the old job, someone one position above me (coordinator, so kinda like the boss's assistant) quit and I started doing his job, plus still doing my old job...and was told I'd get the promotion. But then we had layoffs, and got a new president of the company, and were told no raises/promotions for the year. But I was still told that I'd get my promotion, and backpay too. After 4 months of that though I started looking for another job, and somehow very luckily (with help from co-workers) found one! I was very sad to leave though, the old job felt like home, and everyone there was great. It was hard to tell the boss I was leaving! She understood though, and told me to just come back in 6 months when I realize I miss everyone lol.
The new job is going good so far, and I think I'm doing a satisfactory job thus far. It's a bit more boring though, and the it's a smaller department (with all high cubicle walls so it's quiet). Everyone is nice though, and I make a lot more money, so I'm happy. I only say the money makes me happy because the other job paid nothing and I didn't even have enough money for food and rent! I'm still torn about staying in L.A. forever...I miss Ohio and my family and friends. But this is where the work is so I dunno. Christmas is soon though so I'll get to go home and I'm really excited.
TV-wise I like Flash Forward, and for some terrible reason like The Vampire Diaries. I think I have some weird need to keep finding new CW shows to watch so there's always something on that horrible (like horrible but so good at the same time lol) network that I am a fan of. I am kinda getting too old for that stuff though!
Oh but I can't wait for that midseason CW show (Life Unexpected) with Liz from Roswell -- who's a mom now, weird! I am old! I checked out White Collar and it's pretty decent...but no time to watch, especially without cable...too much I'm behind on already! Umm other than that...Dollhouse is gone soon but it wasn't all that great anyway so that's fine, and even Heather Locklear couldn't save the new Melrose Place. Oh well. She's kinda hot still I guess, but I still like my grandma Marg from CSI better.
Also re-falling in love with Sofia Vergara (who was awesome in the terrible show Hot Properties, as was Gail O'Grady) even though I don't watch Modern Family.
I guess that 's enough of an update for now! What is everyone else enjoying (or hating) this TV season? And how's everyone been...hopefully good! I hope everyone enjoys the holidays, and I'll try to blog again before I go back home in a few weeks. Later!
Best Friend's Wedding=MIA from tv.com
Yep, my best friend is getting married, so I'll be away from now until Sunday the 27th. I'll try to stop in whenever I can, but I'll be really busy so I'll probably only log on a few times, just to clear submissions. So sorry if your submissions hang around for awhile!
P.S. I'll try to write a real blog after I come back!
Vegas - was so fun!
Alright, I'm back from the trip and back at work (yuck), and man Vegas was fun! I'd never been to Vegas, so only knew what to expect from the movies (and CSI), but I was not disappointed! I'll do a runthrough:
We got there late Friday night (about 1AM). The one girl just drove there with us, so then we (me and AJ the other girl) dropped her off with her dad who she was meeting then headed for the Sahara. We had to wait for like 30 minutes to check in, then AJ said she was tired so we just walked around the hotel a bit then went to bed. Sort of lame, but whatever.
Saturday was filled with so much stuff! Basically we just walked around all the casinos, doing only a bit of gambling. And cheap stuff too haha. I usually bet 25 cents, and rarely went up to a dollar haha. So when I won it was only a little bit....but then when I lost it was only a little bit too haha. I usually played the basic slot machine where you can bet 1-20 lines, then 1-5 (I think) times return. I was only using from 1 cent to 1 dollar, so it was easy on the wallet. Also I think it was a bit easier to win? I tried the poker machine too some, and blackjack...but those weren't so easy. I didn't try a table, which I really wanted to do, but AJ didn't want to so I didn't. Boo, no free drinks from trashy waitresses.
I was too cheap to ride the rides at the top of the Stratosphere, but I did go on the roller coaster at the Saraha and that was fun. We went inside a lot of the casinos. The Encore was beautiful (we didn't go in the Wynn though). I really loved the Venetian/Palazzo, it was one of my favorites. The one part inside had an area that looked like Venice, complete with the boats and the waterways. And the ceiling was painted like clouds too, as well as the bulidings looking like they were the outsides of bulidings. It was so pretty! That's not to mention the actual hotel itself, which was very fancy!
We stopped by Treasure Island but were not so impressed. The Mirage was neat, and we got huge slushee drinks there so that was cool. I couldn't believe people can walk around wherever with alcohol. It was funny, and also pretty awesome haha. Walking down the street, swimming in the pool...all with alcohol. Hah. Let's see...we also stopped at Caesar's Palace, which was HUGE. And also fancy, with a super-fancy mall filled with nothing but designer jewelry/purse/clothing stores. I also thought it was funny how the waitresses at the nice hotels were hotter and younger than the ones at the cheap hoels (like the Sahara).
Let's see...we only walked by New York New York, because we were getting tired by the time we got to that part of the strip. We also didn't make it to Mandalay Bay, the Luxor, or Excalibur. But that's okay. I think by the time we saw the MGM Grand we were so tired we gave up haha. We stopped back at the Bellagio as the sun was setting, and the water show there was sooo pretty. It was great. I think they use that hotel in a lot of CSI opening shots. There were so many casinos...I'm sure we went in more but I can't really remember haha.
At night we went to Lavo, a club in the Venetian, since AJ knew someone who worked there. Good thing too because that place is like $40 to get in! AJ's friend also got us into the pool at the Palazzo which was really nice (though I think The Mirage had the best pool area from the ones I saw). We only stayed out until 4AM though, since AJ lost her phone and got all upset.
By the time we finished up our buffet at The Palms (which was delicious, and not too expensive either) it was 5PM on Sunday...so I didn't get back until after midnight, but hey, it was SO worth it! I had a great time and now I really wanna go back haha.
--------------------------------------------------------
Also, thanks for all the wishes for fun guys. I didn't do anything that I need to hide though (lucky) martimer lol. Dan you're definitely right though, having no money to begin with means I didn't lose much! Fatfreeoreos...maybe next time, when I go with a bunch of guys.
Thanks Scott...good thing no one knows what I look like haha. Thanks ArmoredCore, welcome to my blog.
Amaryllis lol yeah, didn't wanna do anything too crazy! Agnus yeah, the hotel was okay enough for me...and yeah, I so got some CSI bling!
Thanks 12678, sesho, and SrRui, I definitly had fun! And layle...that's insane. Now that I've been there though, I also might have to start meeting people there instead of here!
Vegas!
So, me and a friend decided the other week that we wanted to go to Vegas for the weekend...so yeah, we are! I'm leaving today after work (I'm getting out a bit early) and will be back at some point Sunday, so I'll be MIA until then. I definitely don't have the money to go, but hey what the heck, it's Vegas, so why not?!
I'll let everyone (the few of you who read these still lol) know how it went when I return. We're staying at the Sahara -- kinda lame I guess, but really cheap! ![]()
Enjoy the weekend everyone.
NBC's Fall Schedule, and CSI's Slump
Been too long. gotta blog.
First off, I'll say that finding a new apartment is just a huge stressful mess, and hopefully I'll be done with that soon. The job is going well, but I'm hoping for a raise soon so my savings account doesn't keep slowly going down haha. The boss's assistant is leaving, so I might get his job, but that depends on if the boss's boss approves it (stupid economy has our budget all messed up).
Anyways, I wanted to write this because I 1)see TV ratings/news all the time and 2)ultimately want to do scheduling. So, I have thought out what I think will be NBC's schedule this fall, and what still-undecided shows will be back/not back. I thought it'd be fun to see how close I get come next Tuesday. So here's my guess:
Monday:
8:00 - Biggest Loser (Part 1)
9:00 - Heroes
Tuesday:
8:00 - Biggest Loser (Part 2)
9:00 - Law & Order: SVU
Wednesday:
8:00 - Trauma (new drama)
9:00 - Southland
Thursday:
8:00 - Community (new comedy)
8:30 - Parks and Recreation
9:00 - The Office
9:30 - 30 Rock
Friday:
8:00 - Breakthrough with Tony Robbins (new reality)
9:00 - The Marriage Ref (new reality)
Saturday:
8:00 - Law & Order Repeats
9:00 - Dateline
Sunday:
Football
Come midseason, 100 Questions (new comedy) will replace Community or Parks and Recreation (one if not both will fail). Friday's will have the returning Friday Night Lights (why?) at 9:00, and Who Do You Think You Are? (new reality) at 8:00. Sundays will have random whatever reality at 7:00, then Mercy (new drama) at 8:00, followed by 2-hour The Apprentice at 9:00. Medium will replace something that dies (maybe Southland). Day One (new drama) seems to be a limited-type thing, so it can take something's place while its on haitus. Specials of Most Outrageout Moments and Deal or No Deal will sprinkle the schedule while other things are in repeats. I still have no spot for new drama Parenthood -- maybe it won't ever appear.
So all that means that Chuck, My Name is Earl, and Law & Order will not be back. If not because of low ratings, because there's no room. They can join the not-returning Kings, Crusoe, Knight Rider, Life, Lipstick Jungle, America's Toughest Jobs, My Own Worst Enemy, ER, Chopping Block, Kath & Kim, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and others I'm sure I've forgotten. Thoughts?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Now on to CSI. My 2nd-favorite show has not been doing well at all in the ratings lately. It all started with the 200th episode, that focused on Laurence Fishburne, the "new guy" Raymond Langston. It was a joke, because it should have undoubtedly focused on the people who have been there for 200 episodes, not some new guy. And they made it like he knew everything, when he just became a CSI! Anyways...that episode was a series low which is horrible. CSI hadn't gotten below a 10.0 household rating since its first season, but that episode got a 9.1. Horrible. Then the weeks after that have been doing just as bad. Hopefully tonight's finale will at least break a 10, but if the stories keep focusing on Langston, the fans will not stick around much longer! I think CSI will be able to squeak by as TV's #1 drama one last year (it's a close race!) but next year it's gonna fall off a cliff ratings-wise, unless something drastic changes. Thoughts?
Oh and by the way, I just became Marg Helgenberger's editor -- that guide needs a lot of work! She's my secret old-woman crush hehe...so old but so hot! ![]()
-------------------------------------------------------------------
That's it for now...gotta get back to work...and I promise I'll check out everyone's blogs sometime soon. Oh, and can't wait for Smallville's finale tonight!!!!! SO excited! My #1 show won't let me down! Thoughts on that are welcome too. ![]()
Later!
Why no blogs?
Several reasons...but I'd say the biggest issue is the roomate, who's gotten pretty much unbearable. No one likes her, she's a horrible person, too bad I didn't know that beforehand. So I try to avoid being in the apartment, so that means less computer time. That and my computer is going slower and slower. It's been time for a new one but I don't have enough money. Roomate is leaving in a few weeks though (instead of at the end of May) so we'll see how things go after that. Everything at my job is going great though so that's a plus. I sorta miss home though...
So sorry to be MIA from the blogging and blog commenting...hopefully soon I can write a "real" blog. We'll see I guess. ![]()
I wonder when fall comes to LA...
I think I actually miss the rain at this point. I miss seeing a good thunderstorm, and one rainfall (which was really just misting) in four months does not cut it! And I think we really need rain at this point since there are fires all over the place. I can see them on the mountain by where my friend lives. Weird. So...I dunno if I want to stay here for good, because without getting into specifics, things just aren't too good lately. I do like my job though, it's great - but it also makes it harder to decide if I want to end up going back home to Ohio next year or not. My roomate is also a horrible person so that doesn't help much.
Anyways...I'm still adjusting to this new site, like I'm sure we all are, and I keep thinking the guides here aren't "real" and that the old ones will come back so I can submit to them. I know, makes no sense right?
I did finally get up a level, but considering that once you get to 50 it's much harder, I think it'll take me months each time I gain a level anymore lol. Or maybe not...who knows? Oh I also re-did my banner and profile image to fit a Halloween theme...and I Changed My Icon!!!! Yeah, I've had the evil monkey for over three years, and it's from so many versions of tv.com ago. That and the new version stretches it out all weird and makes it look really bad - I think they made that change just so I'd change my icon lol. These new icons don't center right on the top of our profile though. I was gonna pick something really different, but I didn't wanna change it up too much. Do you approve of this one? ![]()
I must also mention, as I'm sure many of you will notice, that I'm now a mod on the site. I'm very grateful for this and I thank the staff and other mods for letting this happen and welcoming me to the team. Of course being a moderator means I'll be "moderating" things, but I also personally think one of the most important things about being a mod is helping people out. If anyone has any questions about anything with the site (or about something else if you really want I guess!)- issues with the new layout, problems with another user, questions about how something works, etc. - of course feel free to PM me about it. I'll try my best to resolve your issues and make your visits to the site less stressful. ![]()
TV wise, the season is now in full swing, as all the season premieres have come and past. Overall I'm not so impressed though, I dunno why. Maybe I'm watching too much TV? I hope not! I'll bold show titles so you can all pick and choose. Oh and don't take me the wrong way now...I am only harsh because I care, and I want my shows to be the best they can be!
Heroes is the biggest disappointment I'd say. I LOVE Angela Petrelli, but other than her, meh. Parkman needs to just die. Suresh needs to get killed by Maya so she can be part of a good storyline (cuz she's hot duh). Hiro is super boring now. Everything else just doesn't make much sense. Bones is also bad this season, but it's doing better lately after it's horrible start to the season. As long as Zack doesn't come back I'll be okay - I mean come on, he worked with a serial killer! I'd toss him as a friend in a second if I found out about that. Lame storyline. End it. Family Guy - nothing super funny yet. I thought I'd like the new season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia but it's becoming too far-out to make any sense at all. Becoming cannibals? Oh come on, that's beyond dumb.
Smallville is pretty good, but could be a bit better (I can't wait until Lana is back!). Supernatural - now that's good stuff! I love how Sam is getting closer to the line of evil, and how the God/Devil stuff was introduced. They managed to pull it off so it works right. I'm also loving Terminator this season - such great writing and acting! I also love the dark mood of the show (it's almost too dark sometimes though) and how deep things are. Great drama. Oh, and the season premiere of CSI? Perfect! I loved every second of it, that's how a show should be! Best hour of TV so far this season (and the ratings agree!).
No new shows have been good really. Valentine and In Harm's Way were a waste of my life, and Eleventh Hour was disappointing (come on Bruckheimer, my man!). 90210 is bad but I keep watching it. Fringe is getting a bit too weird, but it's okay. Oh, The Mentalist is pretty good though, although I'm not too attached to any of the characters. I did start watching Law & Order: SVU this season - and boy did I miss out on 9 seasons of good stuff! That's about it. I promise I'll try to blog around in the next day or two...I've been scared with the new site! Take care everyone. ![]()
The Fall Season Is Just Around the Corner!
I've been looking forward to this fall season pretty much since last season ended, and it's finally here! This time though it's even cooler since I am in LA and get to do all this fun TV stuff! I saw a taping of "Do Not Disturb" (new Fox show) the other day, and it was actually much funnier than I thought. I'm definitely going to try to get into the show now (and of course check out the episode I saw tape - Dosed). Niecy Nash is really cool too. Oh and my buddy from work took a picture of Molly Stanton with his phone, and she definitely winked at us right afterwards. Hot.
Next Friday (9/5) I'm going to the Paley Center and seeing "Fringe" and "Do Not Disturb" preview their premieres. Then the Monday after I'm going to see some NBC premieres - "Knight Rider," "Kath & Kim," "My Own Worst Enemy," and "Crusoe." Every network is doing an event and screening premieres of their new shows before they air on TV, which is really cool. And some of the cast will be there too, and there are party things before the screenings. The events are at 6 though so it's cutting it close with work, or otherwise I'd go to the CBS one too. But not ABC since I don't watch anything on that network, and The CW is only showing "90210" (AFTER the premiere on TV which is lame) and "Privileged" (a girl show).
Anyways...I can't wait for everything to start. I'm dying waiting for "Smallville" (Lana is back for 5 episodes, that's not a lot but enough I guess...no Lex though). "CSI" will be INTENSE with Sara back and Warrick probably dead, and Grissom leaving after 10 episodes (and Lawrence Crapbone as a replacement). Sucks though that "CSI" won't be back until October! The "Bones" premiere better not suck like the finale did. Oh and "Heroes" looks awesome too; I don't expect it to be crap like season 2 was.
I'm gonna try to review every season/series premiere I watch, so I won't go all out talking about everything here...but real quick this is everything new I'm gonna try out (in order of premiere date):
"Raising the Bar" - I heard it sucks and Zack with long hair is hideous
"90210" - please don't be crap
"Hole in the Wall" - yea I know it's trash but it could miraculously be funny
"Fringe" - better be good
"Easy Money" - yeah it'll probably be really bad
"Valentine" - yes I know it looks HORRIBLE but I need some new The CW shows
"The Mentalist" - probably won't be good
"Law & Order SVU" - yea I know it's not new but I got sorta hooked over the summer
"Knight Rider" - Bionic Woman 2008
"Eleventh Hour" - don't fail me Jerry!
"SNL Thursday Night Live" - to make the election period less boring
"Surviving Suburbia" - trash but ya never know
"Secret Millionaire" - because everything else is in repeats in December
I guess I won't be going out at all on the weekdays! Haha. Enjoy the new season everyone! ![]()
Got a job!
After waiting and waiting to hear back from both the Warner Bros. and Fox jobs, I was starting to think I'd never get either of them...but then to my surprise I got a call - and I got the Fox job! I started this week at Twentieth Television, a distribution company that's part of Fox. I work in Fox plaza, which is really cool - it's right next to the Fox lot! When I started I was supposed to be part time, but the boss said I can be full time, which was definitely unexpected, but great because now I don't have to find a crappy second job at some restaurant or something like that. I guess my position used to be filled by two part-time people, but this time around they decided to change things up - how lucky for me! And also, I make a dollar more than I was supposed to, so I got a raise before I even started! Oh, and I get access to the Fox lot too, where they tape all their shows (like House, How I Met Your Mother, and Bones). I'm really glad I got a job, because I was worried that I'd run out of money out here and be in some big trouble.
So far the job seems pretty cool. My main job is to pull the night before's Nielsen ratings - I download, e-mail, and hand out copies of them to everyone in the office. And it's cool because I see them before everyone else, and now I don't have to read them online every day at home. Another one of my jobs is to make a newsletter for everyone about the latest TV news (with an emphasis on Fox stuff)...and that's another thing I do anyways at home every day! So now I get paid to do it - how awesome! Yeah I'm just the new person who's got the lowest rank, but I'm sure I'll work my way up. Eventually I should start to learn about how we do our presentations. Everyone just did one on How I Met Your Mother - we're trying to sell it to a cable station. I can't believe I actually have a job! ![]()
I'll leave the life stories at that for now so this isn't too boring and long. I have yet to see if this Report Problem Editor thing turns out to be helpful or not, but I think it will be. On the other hand, those who receive the complaints will have to sort through all the useless ones I'm sure will be submitted before real ones can be acted upon. I'm finally level 50 now, and I also just got 5,000 submissions done as of today. Took me long enough haha. I'm sad that The Mole is over after Monday (I think Craig is the mole), and it looks like it won't be back due to its low ratings.
Only a few more weeks though until fall premieres start!
Enjoy the rest of summer everyone! ![]()
I'm back!
Well, I was definitely gone longer than expected, but I'm finally back. Except this time I'm not at school in New York, but I'm instead in Los Angeles (specifically Sherman Oaks)! I sorta almost *had* to move here, since the last requirement to finish my degree is to get an internship...and my field is TV...so it just sorta made sense to come here, especially since we met a bunch of people on our trip out here back in January, and those people have been helping me try to find an internship/job.
It's really weird how it doesn't rain here - ever. It's sunny and really hot every day, at least in the summer. Winter will be really weird with no snow! I love the area though - it's crazy driving through Beverly Hills, seeing the Hollywood sign, going down Sunset Blvd. and Rodeo Drive, and all that stuff. 4th of July on the beach was awesome!
The bad news is that I didn't get the internship I wanted. I was a finalist for a programming internship at the Academy of Television Arts & Science, but at the end of May I found out I didn't get it...so I had to move here with nothing (on June 21st to be exact). I was sad to leave everyone behind, and everything here is so expensive, but hopefully soon I'll have a job/internship. I had 2 interviews for Warner Bros. and have a 2nd one at Fox tomorrow, so hopefully one of those will work out. Both are in research, which for some reason I really like, and is a good way to get started if I wanna do programming/scheduling in the future. Hopefully I can start meeting some famous people soon too haha. The Fox interview was in the building they filmed Die Hard in, so that's cool enough for me for now haha.
I'm gonna have to get used to the site again. I noticed they finally fixed the n/a bug - yessssss! I hated that bug so much! And I'm stilllllll level 49 haha. I can't wait for fall though, when TV is good again! Oh, and worst news of the week I recently read - no more Grissom on CSI after 10 episodes into this season! Noooo! Anyways...I'll have to discuss my new show picks at some point in the future...for now it's time to try to catch up on everyone else's blogs. Later!
Done with school...and moving across the country?!
Well, I'm all done with exams now, which was really exhausting and crazy...but now that means I'm also done with school! I graduated yesterday and the family came and everything, and now I'm done, forever! It's a really weird feeling, I don't feel old yet! Lol. I do have to do an internship though before I "officially" graduate, and I also need to wait for the results of the comprehensive exam. And for my internship...I'm pretty sure I'm moving to Los Angeles! Which is pretty crazy - it's all the way across the country! I always wanted to eventually move there, but half our program at school is moving there, and all my teachers keep telling me I should move there...and that's where most of the TV stuff is anyways...so I'm gonna give it a try!
It's a huge change though, so I dunno how I'm gonna like it, and I might not be in the blogging mood for awhile. Also I'm not gonna move there for another month, so I'll be at home until then, and when I'm at home I'm rarely online...so that probably means no more blogs again haha. But I'll be around of course keeping up with all my guides and such, and hopefully the move will go smoothly and I'll be able to get back into the swing of things.
I'm really excited for all the finales coming up, I can't wait! I'm terribly upset to hear that Smallville and CSI, my two favorite shows, might not be back after next year...at least I'll get one more year though! It's really late though and I need to go to sleep...see everyone around, take care!
Super-Stressed
Everything's getting even more crazy as it's the last few weeks of class. On top of the typical end-of-semester papers/projects and then final exams, we have comprehensive exams (a final requirement for graduation) on the last day of normal exams, then also we are on the search for internships for the summer (the other final requirement for graduation). I thankfully got accepted as a finalist at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (they do the Emmys), but now I've gotta make an interview tape and analyze a script for them in the next two weeks. Also I'm dumb and volunteered to lead everyone in studying for the comprehensive exams, and no one can seem to get anything together and it's a mess and everyone keeps asking me questions about it. So yeah, I'm super-busy and have a ton of stuff going on right now.
That's why I've still not gotten around to commenting on blogs, sorry. And also I'm probably gonna be behind on submissions here and there (like tonight since I had a meeting after class and barely got home on time for Medium, not to mention missing Bones since I have class until 8:15). Hopefully everyone will understand...I know this isn't a good time to be behind (since it's finale season), but I've gotta get all this stuff done for school before I come here, so I figured I'd warn everyone they may have a few days' wait on acceptances at times. I'll blog for real and start commenting again as soon as I get a chance!
Later!
Meh.
When TV and School Become One
So that test I talked about in my last blog, the one that was gonna be real hard...I studied forever for it, staying up all night the night before...then he made it take-home! I was sorta glad, since his tests are notoriously hard, but still, I knew most of the stuff on there. *sigh* I have to share though, because this is a great class. We watch TV. Every week, that's really all we do. The class is "Prime Time TV: 1980-Present" and it's pretty cool. Our teacher is the leader in the field of pop culture, and is quoted all the time in news articles, and has been on MTV and 60 Minutes and stuff, so he knows his stuff, and we actually do learn about TV, not just watch it.
Here's some of the questions from the test:
- Describe the 1st season of the Fox Network, including the year, examples of programs, and scheduling strategy.
- The Dick Van Dyke Show was not made by MTM Enterprises, but is linked to the company in several ways. Describe them.
- St. Elsewhere was often referred to as "Hill Street Blues in a hospital." While this may be true from a certain stylistic standpoint, it is not necessarily true in terms of the chronological history of the show. Explain why not.
- Who is Glenn Gordon Caron and what made him a unique figure in 1980's television?
- I claimed that there were at least three levels of meaning operating in many scenes from St. Elsewhere. What were the three levels I pointed out in the cafeteria scene we discussed in class?
- Who shot J.R?
- Miami Vice took a new artistic approach to television. What elements did the show emphasize, as I described them in class?
Isn't that cool? I particularly liked the one about Glenn Gordon Caron since he's the creator of Medium.
Other than that, I wanted to mention that I'm leaving to go home for "spring" break today, so I'll be pretty much MIA until St. Patrick's Day when school starts back up. I'll check my queue every few days, but other than that I'll be busy with other stuff so won't have much time for the site. Bye for now!
Stress Succks
Yeah, the last few weeks have been pretty crazy, and it's just getting worse! Tomorrow I have a test. And it's not a normal test. We have to know EVERYTHING. Like, if someone is mentioned in one single paragraph, that's fair game. Now this is out of like, 200-something pages too. Yeah...crazy. Then on top of that, I need to have an internship this summer (it's part of graduating), and I have to apply for a bunch...but we're supposed to apply to places that don't offer internships? That makes it really hard. Yet another thing to stress about. Then there's also the fact that I have no idea where I'm gonna move when school is over. Ugh. So yeah that's why I've been hiding lately.
The levels the last week or so have been really weird, hopefully they'll be fixed (going through Level 43 in a day?! Wow!). And also, I've had some editing problems too. It's really hard to make a rule for every single kind of conceivable submission, and when 2 people argue about something it's hard to figure out what decision to maek sometimes. I just hope I haven't made anyone hate me...
Also I got a random guide. I didn't really want a kid show, but it has Vincent Price in it so I just had to get The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo. I remember watching reruns back in the day, too bad it didn't last longer than 13 episodes lol.
So I'll be busy the next few weeks, freaking out about everything, but then after that I should be back to normal! I promise I'll try to comment on everyone's blogs when I can. That's it for now, back to studying!
Feeling Outdated
Some of the non-bloggers are still quite active... while some of them seem to simply hide out and not talk to anyone anymore. Only a few of my old friends blog anymore... I think only angelsxo blogs daily. Of course I've gotten some new friends too, and they're also cool. I'm just saying... the old people have steadily disappeared. Where'd all the emblem contests and riddles and games go? And those flashy blogs with pictures and colors and stuff?Hm. I guess things change.
Well, I hope all the people that lurk around secretly, all the oldies who used to visit each other's blogs all the time, are doing well. And maybe some will update us on how things are going. I thought i was gonna stop blogging once but that obviously didn't happen. I think I'll stick with my random blogs, but I don't see myself disappearing for good anytime soon. Why? I don't know, but something keeps me here. Maybe I should find another bunch of friends... or maybe I'm just outdated.
My Trip to Los Angeles
Two weeks later, I'm finally getting to telling the story of my trip to LA. The trip was with school and counted as a class, so it really was just a bunch of sessions with people in the entertainment industry (writers, directors, executives, etc.) and we had minimal free time. It was still a lot of fun though. We stayed at the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn right by Universal Studios. Here are thehighlights:
Monday (January 7th):The first guy we talked to was on CBS's lot (he's the VP of production there), and we luckily got a tour. I was so excited! We got to go on the set of Cane (meh) and CSI: NY (cool!). I don't watch either of those shows, but it was still awesome. I have to showa fewpictures:

The big sign!!! Aaah! Soo cool!

Gary Sinise's desk!!
Unfortunately, due the writers' strike all the famous people were in hiding (all week). Oh! We also went on the set of Big Brother, as the people there told us we could. We got to see the new set they're building...and a few of us snuck some pictures. But then some guy came in and kicked us out! I guess he was one of the executive producters. Now I can say I was kicked off the set of Big Brother! The set didn't look that nice to me anyways, but I guess until it premieres next month I'm not supposed to share my forbidden picture lol.Anways...we then went elsewhere and talked to Lori Taub, a Unit Production Manager, who was REALLY interesting and made her job sound like something really hard but fun. We talked to some other boring people, thenwe got to chat with BruceBilson and Danny Bilson (Rachel Bilson'sgrandpa and dad). Danny is pretty crazy! He's very opinionated.
Tuesday: Nothing special this day. We talked to some interesting people though. One lady is in research/Nielsen ratings, which is what I'm interested in, so I liked her talk. We also talked to a super-nice lady in distribution and afunny/nice writer guy. The coolest thing in my opinion was going to a post-production place that edits a TON of huge shows like House and CSI. I got to see snippets of the last new CSI episode (that didn't air until that Thursday) while we were in there - neat!
Wednesday: The big event this day was a panel of people at the SONY lot. There was someone taping everything and lots of pictures being taken, which was weird. I wasn't really interested in anyone in the panel though...oh well. Later on we talked to an entertainment attorney and some other random guy. Blah. We did get a treat that night though - we got to go see The Groundlings, which is a group who does improv. They were REALLY good!
Thursday: This day we met the coolest lady ever - Toni Graphia. She's really down to earth and really interesting. She's done a lot of writing, most recently for the new Terminator show on Fox. She brought along Dan Thomsen, who also wrote an episode of Terminator (and who I added to this site lol, yay). Dan was equally interesting and had a nice personality like Toni. The only other really interesting person we met that day was Scott Stone, who has his own production company. He usually works with reality shows, and had doneLegends of the Hidden Temple (how cool is that!) and The Mole - which he told us is returning to ABC this year!
Friday: A panel of writers was the main event, which wasn't really up my alley. The people we talked to were quite successful though, like Eric Bress (who created Kyle XY) and John Beck and Ron Hart (a writing team who works on According to Jim). We also met my favorite guy ever, who is obsessed with Nielsen ratings and reading about TV, just like I am. He works in development at Nickelodeon. He was neat. He even talked to us about Jamie Lynn's pregnancy haha. After the speakers we saw According to Jim tape Period Peace. I've never seen a show tape before, so that was cool...but wow that show sucks! I have no idea how it's lasted 7 years lol. It was the last thing taping though, and if there wasn't a strike we would have seen Two and a Half Men. Oh well.
Contrary to my geeky little fan boy rantings, this trip's purpose was to help us get an idea of what the industry is like and give us "contacts" to potentially help us get jobs. I guess I'll see where it gets me after I graduate!

I finally caught up with the tonsof subs and other random stuff left for me while Iwas onvacation and came back to school. As usual, I don't use the Internet much at all when I'm at home. My Holidays were very busy this year, as usual. I work a lot, see friends I don't get to see while I'm in school, and get ready for Christmas with the family (that's lots of work!). Then on January 6th I went to Los Angeles for a week. When I got back I pretty much just packed and left for school. When I got back from my trip and checked my queue I was surprised by the large amount of submissions in my queue- none had been looked at while I was gone, I guess because I was gone exactly a week. So it took me a few days to catch up, especially with the return of Medium occurring when I was in LA.
I finally changed my banner again - I love it! Fireworks is fun to use, althoughI'm still shaky on how to make a banner's quality stay intact when transferring it over to here; sometimes it doesn't seem to work. On another note, I've been having some issues with details in my guides. These are issues that don't have a precedent here on the site (such as the use of Special Guest Stars). I started a thread over in the editor's forum in an effort to make some kind of conclusion, as I've been seeing conflict with my thoughts and those of contributors to my guides.
I only have [ahahhahaah c-l-a-s-s is a banned word now ahahahha soo lame] on Mondays and Wednesdays this semester, which is really weird. I'll have to get a job, seriously, too much free time. The cl_sses all meet for 3 hours once a week, that's also really weird. I don't think I've ever had a cl_ss like that before, and this time all 4 of my cl_sses are like that. I guess that means a lot of out-of-cl_ss work and assignments. Yuck. I want to tell everyone about my trip to LA and all the cool people I got to meet (like the guy who's in charge of The Mole and some writers who wrote episodes of the new Terminator) and the cool things I got to do (like go on the set of CSI: NY and get kicked off the set of Big Brother). That will be another day though, and I might separate it into two blogs. Enough crap-talk for now!
*Wow, and does anyone remember like, 5 months ago when staff said they'd fix that issue with spacing on blogs/forums? Sometimes I still forget that problems never actually get fixed here...

Semester's Over!!!

Oh wow, the week from -hell- is finally over. This was seriously the worst last few days I've ever had. Being at school for over 12 hours since Monday, not getting enough sleep, not having enough time to do anything other than study/write essays (I even ran out of clean clothes, ew!) - not fun. I am so exhausted from this week. I had to relegate one assignment, pushing it out of the way to finish everything else...and that grade is gonna kill me I'm sure. BUT, it's over...at least almost. I'm leaving to go home tomorrow, but then on Monday I have a paper due and then next Monday I have another paper due. I can e-mail them to the teachers though, so I figured I'd just do them at home, since I don't actually have any in-school finals next week.
It feels like Sunday was a month ago, and the last few days are just like a blur. And I'm not the only one;, everyone in my program has been stressing/freaking out. It's crazy. I think that because this program is only a year long instead of the normal 2-year grad program, everything is super-hard. Sucks.
Anyways, as usual, when I'm home I'll probably never be online. So don't be surprised if I don't blog again for a month.
Also, anyone that makes submissions in the next month should expect them to be accepted at slower-than-usual rates. I don't expect many submissions though since Bones isn't new until next year and no one submits to anything else anyways (well except Medium when it comes back in January). Oh, and I made a new banner, what's everyone think?
I can't forget to mention that on January 6th, I'm going to LA for a week. It's a trip for school that cuonts as a whole ****(we have to write a paper after the trip though), which is pretty cool. It's an "industry seminar" so we get to talk to people in the entertainment industry there, like writers and directors and stuff. We were going to see a taping of Two and a Half Men, but obviously that isn't happening anymore. We might get in to a Deal or no Deal taping, but that's up in the air. I'm excited to go, I've never been to California.
That's about it, I'm too brain-dead right now to talk about anything else. If I don't write again soon, I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and whatever else anyone may celebrate. ![]()
Oh, and I want this for Christmas:

Mom said she'll try. ![]()

So Busy
Yeah...I have SO much work to do with school. I guess grad school isn't as easy as undergrad! And it really sucks thatmost ofthe finals are take-home because that means they're gonna take a lot longer than in-class tests. And of course all my classes have final papers too, so that's double the essays to do pretty much. I hate essays. ![]()
So that leaves me no time to be here or anywhere else, and all I'm doing is spazzing out because I have so much to do! I won't elaborate anymore (cuz who cares?!) but yeah, I'm so ready for break to be here. It's actually a good thing for once that most shows aren't new. Bones takes quite some time to edit, and it'll be nice to have a break! The Christmas episode was great though; it was really Christmas-y, I loved it. Heroes finale better be good on Monday!
I'll write again before break, and try to get around to everyone's blogs. It's finally December, I hope everyone is enjoying the snow! ![]()
