Sunday The Winning Day!
I've noticed a trend when I was little till now. Every time I would beat a game it would always be on a Sunday. Now, I do not know if this is pure coincidence. Or if this day has a certain cosmic effect on the video game universe. But I just always beat games on a Sunday!
Super Mario Bros. Was the first culprit. I remember beating it on a Sunday because I was dress in my Sunday best ready to go to Church. I was in one of those little suits that makes me look I should be on the knee of a ventriloquist. But I just remember beating Bowser at the end, saving the princess and getting that message. "We now present to you a new quest!"
The same can go for Super Mario 64. I beat that game on a Sunday too. Right before Church.
Street Fighter II on the Super Nintendo, Odd World Abe's Oddysee on the Play Station, Sonic Adventure on the Dream Cast. All those I beat on a Sunday morning right before Church. The list goes on and on!
Later on in life, when I wasn't really going to Church anymore. (Sorry God, my bad&hellip![]()
I would still notice that I would beat games on a Sunday. In the mornings to be exact. Fall Out 3, Sunday morning. Heavenly Sword, Little Big Planet, Street Fighter IV, Uncharted; Drake's Fortune. All on Sunday! Now this was really starting to weird me out! Devine intervention? My lucky day is Sunday? Who knows…
I am writing this blog on August 30, 2009. Yep, a Sunday! And guess what? This Sunday Morning. I just finished Batman: Arkham Asylum! Which is one of the best games I have ever played in a while! I also found all 240 of The Riddler's riddles all on my own without the use of a players guide or the internet (hold for applause) thank you very much! LOL!
It's just something about this day that I just can't explain?
I wonder, maybe it's because I'm Christian that I beat games on Sunday. But if that was the case. If I was of Jewish faith? Would Saturday be my Game Winning Day? If I was in the Muslim religion? Would it be Friday?
I guess only God, Adonai, & Allah know for sure…
Batman Arkham Asylum Demo.
So I downloaded the Batman Arkham Asylum Demo. I played it and all I can say is...OUTSTANDING! This game is going to be the Batman's video game franchise's saving grace! Many Batman games have been released in the past. And a lot of them ranged from mediocre to absolutely terrible! There were some games that actually made me hang my head in shame for being a Batman fan. And I am a very big Batman fan. Batman is my #1 DC comic book hero as Wolverine is my #1 Marvel comic book hero. This is gong to be tough to find but there was a comic that was released back in the 90s called Legends of the Dark Claw by Amalgam Comics, that actually merged Batman's and Wolverine's personas together. If you could find it I highly recommended it!
Back to Arkham. The graphic design of the game is very good. The details and looks of the characters are spot on. The back drop of Arkham Asylum itself is simply amazing! It is as dark, sick, and twisted as the inmates that occupies its halls. The game play is wonderful. I love the fluidity of Batman's fighting mechanics. The whole counter system is such a blast to pull off. Every hit and counter hit he connects with makes you cringe as the sound & realism is second to none!
The detective aspect of the game is cool too. When you go in to detective mode. Special goggles slide in to Batman's cowl and the HUD (Heads Up Display) changes. You get to see in a sort of X-Ray type vision. You see places where you can grapple to. Hidden enemies both armed and unarmed. You also get clues to figure out your next objective.
I am very happy with the voice acting. Many of the actors from Batman: The Animated Series from the early 90s reprise their rolls for this game. It's good to hear Kevin Conroy as Batman, Mark Hamill(Yes, Luke Skywalker himself!) as The Joker, & Arleen Sorkin as Harley Quinn again. But I do miss Bob Hastings as Commissioner James Gordon. Well I guess we can't have everything we want.
I have played this Demo 9 times already and I still can't get enough! This game is going to be releasd on Tuseday, August 25, 2009.Waiting aweekis going to be painful but I've waited 2 decades for a real Batman game. What's another couple ofdays?
Factory Fresh Games
So I wrote about this as part of my first blog, but I am going to write only about this. Having way too many games but I haven't got the time to play them. I am always working a 9 hour shift Mon-Fri. I have the weekend but then I have to take care of other stuff like laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning up my place, etc. So when I have time to game. I need to be picky and choosey on which game I am going to hunker down on and play like a mad man. I am a very big fan of fighters so I always play at least 2 to 3 hours on those. But then there are the RPGs, shooters, adventures, and so on. I just wish I had more time.
So I go out and buy games that I really want, or I will hear of a game that many gamers consider to be a great buy. Then there are the magazine reviews and online review saying that I should have "said game" in my video game library. So I go out and get it. All of this buying ends up with me owning a whole bunch of games that 75% of then I won't get around to. I own some games that I haven't even took out of the original, factory sealed, plastic. And I am not going to open them any time soon. Which really sucks because I have some games that I really want to play and experience.
I buy a game. Play with it for a while. But then with in 2 weeks of that games release. Another game that I was looking forward to playing comes out. I get it. I start playing that one. And the one that I was investing my time in for that last two weeks gets shelved and God know how long I will give that disc a spin again.
Just wish that some 'gotta have" games would be released further apart but that is not going to happen. And now that we are smacked in the middle of the 3rd quarter year (July, August, September) and the 4th quarter of the year is coming up fast, (October, November, December" Holiday Time!")
This year, we are going to get bombarded with a slew of games! A crazy example is that Brutal Legend and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves are coming out the same damn day! October 13th 2009.
Now how the hell am I going to find the time to play both games?!?!? To bad I can't split myself apart like Multiple Man form the X-Men Comics! I would love that!
To Mic, or not to Mic? That is the question.
So playing online is fun for the most part. But when you get Mics (Microphone Headsets)involved. That is where it gets interesting. It is really cool when you get your buddies together and use the micfor strategies on how you are going totackle you objectives in lets saya FPS(First Person Shooter). Also, it is kind of fun when you trash talk someone when you are giving them a beat down in a fighting game, (all in good fun and in good taste I hope...) But sometimes it is not worth it. I do believe that on the XBOX 360, you can use team speak and just talk to and listen to your friends only and ignore everyone else. But so far I do not think the Playstation 3 (The one which I own.)has it.It is kind of messed up that I can hear the other team talk strategies and I can adjust myself accordingly to hit them back with my own. Or that I have to listen to other players talk to their friends about their day and how they think that their wife is cheating on them again. I'm sorry but I really don't want to hear that.
It also goes for me talking on the Mic. Sometimes I just don't have anything interesting to say. Or I might get offended at someone's comment and I will go on a 3 minutetirade accomplishing nothing but having a sore throat and looking like a jackass. I also find myself getting distracted while talking, thus making my game play more awful then it already is! LOL!
So inclosing, it's just a mater of how you incorporate the Mic that makes it to your liking or to your disadvantage. You wanna talk, fine. You wanna listen to others talk, well....there is always the mute button!
Ugh...Motion Control...
When the Nintendo Wii first shipped out on November 19, 2006. I was very intrigued by this whole motion control thing. A very good friend of mines picked one up and I decided to go to her house to check it out. After about and hour of playing Wii sports. My conclusion was, 'It was cool but so damn exhausting!' I was wiped out!
I am not in the best shape of my life, but did I really want to incorporate all that waving around manically just to get some game play in. Hell No! It's a cool concept an all but people like me don't really want to shake a controller round just to make my character on screen shoot a fire ball. I just want to sit down, chill and used the controller with mapped out button commands like a normal gamer. The Wii reminded me back in the day when Nintendo released the Power Pad for the NES. Basically it was this big mat that you put on the floor and you and a friend would run in place on colored circles that made the character on the screen move. My sister wanted this so bad that she bugged our dad until he broke down and got it. It came with a game called World Class Track Meet,
Yep, track... as in running. I hated running. But the game was easy as hell if you used your hands! LOL!
If I was 10 again when I was skinner and healthier. I would love the Wii. But I'm not. I just can't stand moving around all crazy like just to play a game. I own a PS 3 and I hate using the SIXAXIS motion in certain games. Especially when it "required". If I hate shaking a controller up and down what makes you think I would want to stand up and use my whole body! Now, XBOX 360 and Play station 3 are getting on the motion band wagon with Project Natal & "The WAND" respectfully. Though the WAND is not the official name. Nintendo has also incorporated a new attachment to their Wii-mote called Wii Motion Plus so that player can have a more range of control with there Wii-mote.
Project Natal uses a set of cameras and you use your body to control what is happening on-screen. The Wand uses both a camera and two controllers or "wands" to control the action on-screen. So it is incorporating both the Wii-mote (sort of) and the Natal Cameras. That Is a lot of moving! I am just too old and lazy for all this motion. I am also too grounded in holding a controller that I am not really comfortable going all 'motion crazy like' just to play a game. This motion stuff is good for the next gen of young gamers but I will pass on this. I know all of this incorporates being active and having healthy life**** But if I am going to lose weight I will just do it the old fashion way. Diet, exercise and watching those stripper pole workout DVD with Carmen Electra. Ok, so the last one is more eye candy then anything else. ^_^
