My Christmas '09 / New Year '10 Wishlist
Okay, this is the first time I'm gonna post something like this...
1. Dragon Age: Origins
2. Demon's Souls
3. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
4. Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion
I wish I can get all these games before January 2010 ends. Holiday season's gonna drain my cash... I need to work harder. ![]()
You may be wondering, but... yes, Assassin's Creed 2 and Modern Warfare 2 are not among the games I'm planning to get. Next year, I'm only anticipating for Final Fantasy XIII and God of War III.
[UPDATE (Dec. 01): Just got Dragon Age: Origins.
]
Btw, I have a question for those wth Dragon Age: Origins--I got some codes that I can redeem to get some DLC... and it says it is one time use only. So, does it mean I can only download the DLC once, or does it mean I can only use that code for one DLC account (but I can do unlimited downloads if ever I change my PS3's HDD)?

Hey, hey!
I think this is my fastest blog update (2-day from my last one) ever. Anyway, I have finally made a way to hook my PS3 to the internet (did it via LAN). ![]()
I just upgraded my firmware from 2.60 (from RE5) to 3.01.
I also created a new US PSN account (after some of my friends said "anthony_FG" is not as good as my good ol' "Fantasy Gamer" code).
However, as what I've told you in my "Catch FG on PSN!
"blog entry, Fantasy Gamer, Fantasy_Gamer, Fantasy.Gamer, Fantasy-Gamer and FantasyGamer are no longer available for the grabs, so I was forced to get another moniker with my, now, legendary "Fantasy Gamer" (started from GameFAQs) codename in it. I chose between three options:
1. Fantasy_Gamer_FG
2. Fantasy_Gamer101
3. Fantasy_GamerX
I thought the first option is good 'coz, after all, I believe I'm the only "Fantasy Gamer" in the internet who is popularly called as "FG", but I thought it is too long, so I dropped it in the list.
The second option almost made it to be my final US PSN ID, but for some reasons, I suddenly thought of option 3...
I think option 3 is the one closest to my "Fantasy Gamer" code, with the "X" for Xtreme, Xciting and XD.
So, here is final US PSN ID...
FG's PSN ID: Fantasy_GamerX

@ kinetic-core: Chobi, I would have loved to invite you first in my US PSN account, but I guess you should grab a PS3 first. ![]()
@ SymonDezyn: Hey Symon! Did you receive my invitation to you last night? You're the first person I messaged and invited using my PS3 internet. Looking forward to playing with you online soon! ![]()

Internet of My Own (Again)... At LOOOOONG Last!
Yeah. You read it right. A year and a month after I left our house (together with my internet) in the province to transfer here in the Megapolis of Metro Manila, Philippines, I finally have (again) an internet connection of my own!
Gone are the days that I need to go to internet shops to be online. During office hours (8 am - 5 pm), I'm still gonna use my internet in the office, but now, at home ,I can still go online at will! ![]()
The only problem is, it is my brother who chose the ISP... It is a broadband connection, but in the form of a USB device (looks like a USB network adapter). I have a decent speed at max 3 MBPS. My only complaint is... When I tried it in my PS3... I DID NOT WORK!!!
I guess my resort now is to make this PC an access point for wi-fi so I can connect my PS3 online. The problem is, I do not know what to do. My friend told me I can use a wireless router or a USB Network Adapter. Well, I have both. I already installed my USB Network Adapter, but I cannot find a way to make it release wi-fi signal. I think it is just for scanning if there are wi-fi signals around, but it cannot be the source of the signal... So, my next option is the wireless router. Unfortunately, I do not have a cross cable with me. I'll just buy tomorrow... and hopefully, after some tweaking, I can play with you guys via PSN. ![]()
If anyone can help me how to do all what I have just said, I will greatly appreciate it. If none, I'll just Google everything. ![]()
For now, at least, I can be with you even during night time here in the Philippines. ![]()
[UPDATE (October 4, 2009): I was finally able to remedy the situation. I connected my PS3 via LAN to my PC. The only drawback of that setup is that I cannot be online in my PS3 without booting on my PC. Anyway, my PS3 is already connected.

Catch FG on PSN! :P
Not really... At least--not yet.
I just registered my Asian Sony Playstation 3 with the US Playstation Network. ![]()
My PSN ID is: anthony_FG
Too bad, I cannot/can no longer register for "Fantasy Gamer"/"Fantasy_Gamer"/FantasyGamer. ![]()
I wonder if I may still register for the Asian PSN...
Well, I haven't hooked my PS3 on the internet 'coz I still haven't chosen the ISP I will be using, but definitely, I'm gonna get broadband connection.
You can now reserve your tickets to be my friend @ PSN. ![]()
UPDATE: I can take the ID "Fantasy_Gamer_FG". Do you think it is better than the one I currently have?
FG's Got a PS3... @ Last! :D
Hey, hey! I have my very own Sony Playstation 3 now! (July 10, 2009)
*performs a happy dance*
Well I got a ceramic white 40 GB PS3... I know it is quite disappointing and maybe I did a really foolish decision, but here's the story...
I was torn between two options, either:
(1) an 80 gig PS3 (Dual Shock 3) - piano black with free "The Orange" box game, another game of my choice and another Dual Shock 3... The price is 26,900 Philippine Peso (around US$560), or
(2) Playstation 3 40 GB - Ceramic White (Sixaxis), one game of my choice and one Dual Shock 3... the price is 24,700 Philippine Peso (around US$514)
Basically, the factors I considered are the following:
- Price... The cheaper, the better
- The color... I really like the ceramic white one... veryp leasing to the eyes
- Currently, I'm only really interested with Metal Gear Solid 4 and Resident Evil 5
If I chose the first option, it is not ceramic white... It is the "more" generic color, I do not like Half-Life games so I will not have any use for the "The Orange Box", and I'll spend another 4,500-5,000 Philippine Peso (around US$72-103) to get RE5 (I can get MGS4 for free), so, if I took this option, I should have spent 31,000 Philippine Peso (around US$665).
On the other hand, the one I took... I spent a total of 27,300 Philippine Peso (around US$569) = the second option, plus I bought RE5 in another shop who sells the game for only 2,600 Philippine Peso (around US$54).
Well, I saved around US$96:
additional 40 GB, The Orange Box, 2 Dual Shock 3
-VERSUS-
ceramic white, 1 Sixaxis, 1 Dual shock 3
Obviously, the color became the main consideration. ![]()
So, what do you think?
In any way, wish me well in my next-gen videogame experience!
I'll try to get my own internet at home so I can join you in the PS3 online community... ( I hope the "Fantasy Gamer / Fantasy_Gamer" code names are not yet taken >_< )
YAYZ! *cookies for everyone*
QUESTIONS
Btw, I have some questions...
1. How can I avoid the BDL problem I've read in some forums? How about the Yellow Screen of Death?
2. In the documentations included in my PS3 box, it says "Singapore" as Region, but my PS3 is NTSC-J... So, does it mean my PS3 is made in Japan, but should be registered in Singapore? There is no SCE Philippines.
3. Since I have an Asian version PS3, can I register in us.playstation.com, or should I only register in asia.playstation.com? Can I register in both?
4. Is it true that if for some reasons the firmware upgrade was interrupted, my PS3 would be gone for good?
5. Is the firmware update similar for all PS3 versions?
6. Is there regional block for PS3? Games? BDs? DVDs? VCDs?
7. Since I only have a 40 GB PS3, can I just use an external HDD in installing games or I really have to put in a larger HDD?

Happy 4th Bday FFE & FFVII PS3 Confirmed!
Final Fantasy Experience a.k.a. FFE (25 May 2005 - 25 May 2009),
HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY! ![]()
Thank you for everyone who contributed in molding what FFE is today... In a period where most unions in Gamespot have already died or gone inactive, our beloved community has kept its status as Gamespot's "officially endorsed" Final Fantasy union, an active community with a direction, and a good source of essential Final Fantasy information with the help of our dedicated and untiring contributors.
Please pay our community a visit and join us in our celebration. We are holding some events to commemorate this special day, among others:
-FFE Team Battle Arena (we're still open for participants!)
-New Inductee in the FFE Hall of Fame
-Our c1assic Chocobo Hating, er, Hunting Game
-New Officers
-Banner contest (maybe?)
Regardless of what will happen in the events, what is more important is your presence. ![]()
In behalf of the FFE Administrative Team, we shall continue to do our best to serve the FFE Community the best way we can--always open to constructive criticisms, recommendations... or even, violent reactions. ![]()
FFVII PS3 CONFIRMED! (Updated May 31, 2009)
So, have you heard the latest? Final Fantasy VII is finally going to the Playstation 3 in North America!ESRB rated it "Teen" for both Playstation 3 and the Playstation Portable, so we can already conclude that it is NOT the much-anticipated "Remake" for the Playstation 3 as has been much-wished since the 2005 E3 FFVII PS3 Tech Demo. Anyway, it is still FFVII, and I've met a lot of gamers complaining the "rarity" of FFVII and/or expensiveness of even just a second-hand copy of the game, so this is still a great news.
Check out the Playstation Network ones it is finally released and download the game while it is hot!
Have a nice day! ![]()

Hardlowin/een: Winning a Really Hard RPG on Halloween
Once in a while, I come accross some really annoyingly hard games that forces me to suspend playing it for 2-4 years before I get back to my sanity (or should I say, insanity?) and play it again so I can finally finish it. Some games are so hard just because it forces you to do a lot of grinding in order for you to progress through the story... some are just plain hard to death.
During the SNES days, Enix released this RPG with an interesting concept: The 7th Saga. The game allows you to choose 1 character from a group of 6 or 7 guys (I cannot remember) of different jobs (Warrior, Cleric, Mage, Demon, Alien, Dwarf, etc.) to be your main hero and you can talk to one of the remaining characters to be your partner and that will be your duo-party until the end of the game... until you decide to replace your partner... Throughout your journey, the you will meet the remaining characters you did not pick at the different towns in the game and they may either be your enemy now and attack you (owww... they are always very powerful) or they may offer to join your party. What makes the gmae so hard is story progression. YOU CANNOT PROGRESS TO THE NEXT TOWN OR DUNGEON WITHOUT GRINDING!!! That's not the only problem, grinding from one level to another requires so much experience, and regular enemies are also powerful and does not give so much experience. Oh my. anyway, you'll be very proud if you're one of those who have finished this hard game 'coz there are not so many. ![]()
I remember playing a game... one I claim to have one of the best stories of all JRPGs I've played: Saga Frontier 2 (Playstation). There are 3 types of battles: party, duel and a strategy-based army-to-army battle... The last army-to-army battle of this game caused me to delete my file because I got so pissed. I've used the best strategy I can think of yet, I still lost so many times, thus, I cannot go to the final dungeon. Well, the story really sucked me in and after 2 years I found myself playing it again... and I reached that part again where I have to do that uber hard army-to-army battle... With some new knowledge, the battle became a little less harder... and I surved it with only 3 squads left in my army. After that... the final dungeon... the final boss: The Egg. Oh my! He's hard! After some good preparation, I was finally able to beat him. Well, I think some of the hardest boss are found in the Saga series: 10 Fatestone Saruin (Romancing Saga), The Destroyer (Romancing Saga 3), and Knights of the Roundtable and Chaos (Unlimited Saga... another really hard game). I urge every RPG fans to give Saga Frontier II a chance. It may take some time to get used to it, but once the story starts to unfold, it'll grow into you and you can no longer stop and have sleepless nights with it. ![]()
Today, I finished Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (Playstation 2). Hardcore fans of the series claim that it is the best MegaTen game in terms of story... very deep... very dark, and all your decisions will affect your "Reason", which will ultimately decide the ending you will get. Okay, in 2004 I got this game and really got excited 'coz the last MegaTen game i've palyed is Persona 2: Eternal Punishment way back 2000. There two modes... I did not think twice to choose the hard mode. Oh my! I got stuck with fighting one of the Fiends, Matador. He is so fast, very hard to hit, and has a very powerful "force" element attack. I almost gave up on it. After 4 years, here I am, I finished the game this Halloween season. ^__^ I'm quite proud when I went to the GameFAQs message board of the game and saw people saying "... as if the normal mode is not hard enough." Wow. The game is really hard. Even at high levels, you can get a Game Over in one wrong step in battle. Miss a hit or hit an enemy with an attack they are immune or they absorb and you'll subject yourelf to immediate turn of the enemies who can always potentially kill you. If you are not protected from death and expel attacks, Game Overs will be a usual scene. Uber-powerful physical hits are also common like that annoying "Iron Claw" which can kill even my level 95 hero. What makes it harder is the fact that when your hero dies, it's Game Over even if you still have the rest of your party. Oh, and i'm not gonna talk about the Amala Layrinth... the 4th Kalpa and the damaging floors thatwill reduce your party's HP to 0 in about 5 steps and high encounter rate even with Estome (spell that lowers encounter rate). Oh, and finishing that Amala Labyrinth will give you a final-final boss (after the regular final boss), which is so much powerful than the regular one, has 3x more HP and can only be effectively damaged by one kind of attack, Pierce, which can only be learned by the hero and one rare monster that you need to level up a lot before you can learn it. Now it's finished. Took me 90 hours to finish it. ![]()
Well, those are the hardest RPGs I've played that I can think of right now. Maybe I'm missing some, but I think this will suffice. If we talk about hard RPG bosses, there are quite a lot. On top my list is Indalecio of Star OCean: The Second Story. Maybe that will be the topic of my next blog. Who knows? ![]()
Anyway, HAPPY HALLOWEEN everyone 'coz mine's a happy one!
Trick or Treat! ![]()
Happy 4, 3, 2, 1, 0... FG!

4 Years @ Gamespot!
04 September 2004 - 04 September 2008. It's been exactly 4 years since I decided to sign up for a universal Gamespot-GameFAQs account in order to save my account in the latter from being deleted. For almost a year since I had my GS account, I have not really used it until I decided to fully support the union system under and in front of the the banner of my beloved FFE. Well, after all that have happened here at GS... the bugs, glitches and controversies, like you guys who have decided to read through this blog, I can say that I am still very much enjoying my stay here like a noob trying to make new and more friends, and figuring out what else GS has to offer. 4 years of great Gamespot experience... and still counting. ![]()
3 Years as Leader of FFE!
10 September 2005 - 10 September 2008. I will never forget the day I was chosen successor by the founding leader of Final Fantasy Experience, mgatson, in leading Gamespot's leading RPG union... Well, it is not yet leading when I took over, but in my heart, it will always be the leading one. It is always a great honor to be the head servant of a great community, but being with FFE is something special. The union has gone through a lot... ups, downs, changes, losses, but until now it is alive and kicking.
Through the years we have managed to hit some remarkable accomplishments, among others:
1. Getting and keeping the Top 4 Union (by ranking) even before the union level and hits counter went defective.
2. Being the official union of Gamespot for the "Final Fantasy" series (of course, it will not be complete if our "Officially Endorsed" emblem is not hit by glitchspot for the nth time now.)
3. Taking over the "original" The Final Fantasy Union and transforming it into the now Gamespot's top and most active SE union, Square Enix Experience.
Oh, (I don't really need to mention it, but I have to 'coz it is about me being a union leader), I was also recognized an "Outstanding Union Leader" of the Unofficial Gamespot Union Awards. ![]()
Anyway, the above--and all other--accomplishments of FFE would not have been possible if not for our great community... our officers, members and contributors, past and present. Credit is given to whom it is due. Thank you. ![]()
2 Years of No Love Life!
-- ---------- 2006 - -- September 2008. Nah. Don't expect me to tell you "that" story 'coz it's not too good. Well, it is good... in the sense that it made me a better, stronger, more mature person when it comes to serious relationship with the opposite sex. [I also managed to keep my virginity intact.

Oh, I'm no longer depressed at all so don't worry about me... I have moved on since last year. ![]()
I'm single and very much available now. ![]()
1 Year Since I Took the Bar Exam!
02 September 2007 - 02 September 2008. Time slips so fast... Just last year I started my campaign to become a lawyer here in the Philippines... Taken the Philippine Bar Examination in the first four (4) Sundays of September 2007(there are 5 Sundays in September 2007) and now, I'm already a lawyer.
On September 9, the Philippine Bar Exam for this year will start already and I'll be there to cheer and support my ****ates and friends (first timers and re-takers alike). It's always great to reminisce great past experiences... and by going to the same place where my actual battle to become a lawyer took place a year ago... I know it'll be a delightful experience. Of course I'll be having a reunion with my co-new lawyers and ****ates I haven't met for more than a year now. i'm excited! ![]()
0 Gaming Life... No Way!
September 2008. I just got a condo unit near two of the most famous malls in the Philippines (SM Megamall and Shangri La Mall) in the heart of the very busy Ortigas Central Business District of Madaluyong City in Metro Manila, Philippines, in preparation for my impending new job. I am quite worried that due to this, I will finally have to stop my 2-decade old gaming life 'coz I am going to be very busy [Sheesh... Gaming and lawyering, how am I suppose to combine those two??). However, I'm a gamer by heart. I'm one since I was 5. I cannot just give up my passion just because my work would cause me to become very busy. So, for "0 Gaming Life"... NO WAY! ![]()
Right after Valkyrie Profile: Sylmeria, I'll try my hands on Romancing Saga: Minstrell Song, or will continue by files on Shadow Hearts 2: Covenant or Persona 3: FES.
(But I guess it'll take much more time for me to finish a game now 'coz of business.
)

3rd Year Officer @ FFFE ( UPDATE: 08 July 2008 )
It's been three (3) years since I was appointed officer at Final fantasy Experience. Well, I guess, I will always be FFE's biggest supporter. ![]()
Filipino-American Friendship Day
Here in the Philippines, July 4 is celebrated as Filipino-American Friendship Day.
Filipino-American Friendship Day, July 4, is a day in the Philippines designated by President Diosdado Macapagal to commemorate the liberation of the country by joint Filipino and American forces from the Japanese occupation at the end of World War II.
The Philippines was a U.S. territory from 1898 to 1942, when it was occupied by Japanese forces, and again for a brief period after the war. The country gained complete independence on July 4, 1946.
Initially, the nation's Independence Day holiday was held on July 4. Former President Diosdado Macapagal moved it to June 12, the date on which the Philippines declared independence from Spain in 1898. Filipino-American Friendship Day was created in its place, and coincides with the United States' July 4 Independence Day.
~Wikipedia
I'm not sure about the first paragraph. The reason I know (based on my History subjects) for celebrating it is stated in the second and third paragraphs. July 4, 1946 was the day when America finally gave the Philippine Governement total control over the country, but President Macapagal (father of our incumbent President), changed it to July 12 reasonnig that it is the Filipino-gained independence, while July 4 can be described as an American-given independence.
Anyway, enough of history. Happy friendship day to all my American friends here at Gamespot!
(and also to my other friends).
GAMING LIFE
My gaming life has been quite slow the past several months. Not that I am not playing videogames at all, but the games I've been playing are too time consuming allowing me to only finish few of it in several months:
CivCity Rome (PC)
World in Conflict (PC)
Nobunaga's Ambition: Rise to Power (PS2)
CivCity Rome is a city-builder game joining the ranks of Sim City. Well, it is quite nice, though the outdated graphics has taken a lot of its appeal. It is the frist city-builder where you can zoom in and see the insides of the buildings, plus incorporating the technology tree of another addicting game, Civilization.
World in Conflict on the other hand is a real-time strategy game. It is quite a different from the RTS that I got used to (Command & Conquer, Age of Empires, Empire Earth, Warcraft, etc.) and I think, so far, it is the best one I have played (I still have to try Company of Herores). I haven't beaten it yet 'coz of the game below, but definitely, I am going to finish it.
Nobunaga's Ambition: Rise to Power is my first Nobunaga's Ambition game. I've been seeing this game since the NES and SNES days, but I'm quite young then so I did not have even just a bit of interest over games with lots of menus and submenus. This game is related to the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series, which I truly love. Both games are called "Historical Simulations" by its developer/publisher, Koei, with Rot3K covering China's three kingdoms period and NA covering the warring states period of Japan. The gameply is a combination of city/state building with all the military, commercial and diplomatic issues to take care of and strategy battles. While Rot3K features fully turn-based ary-to-army battles, Nobunaga's Ambition features RTS battles... Still, army-to-army, with the option to engage into a kessen. This game has eaten a lot of my time ( my entire June 2008 ) and I'm just half-way through unifying Japan.
(UPDATE -July 31, 2008-: Beaten it last night. Whew!
)
I rate those games: CivCity Rome - 5-6/10, World in Conflict - 8-10/10 and Nobunaga's Ambition - 4-5/10
WHAT LIES AHEAD...
I am planning to replay Suikoden V. The second best Suikoden for me due to its awesome story. I did not get all 108 Stars of Destiny in my first playthrough and being a big fan of the Suiko series, I cannot accept that I will have a game file that do not have complete characters! So, after Nobunaga's Ambition, it will follow. ![]()
I also planning to continue my Shadow Hearts: Covenant file. I hope I can do it after Suikoden V.
I feel that I will finally have a Playstation 3 in the enxt two months, so I'm quite excited with that idea. ![]()
Finally, I want to do something else aside from private law practice, so I am going to try my chance to look for a job at the Senate of the Philippines or Fil-Am Life Insurance Company. ![]()
Happy 3rd Bday FFE!!! [Also, Pawned In My 1st Team Battle]
Final Fantasy Experience, a.k.a. FFE (May 25, 2005 - May 25, 2008 - present). It's been three (3) full years since this trusty union first made a way for all enthusiasts, casual and hardcore, of Square Enix' Final Fantasy series here at Gamespot to meet, to discuss, to argue, to play, to be friends and do other things in a place truly dedicated to the series.
I would want to apologize for the lack big celebration for this another milestone of our community due to some uncontrollable circumstances (signal no. 4 storm, power interruptions and disrupted internet connection) on my part. Nevertheless, I would want to let everyone know that FFE will continue to serve our community to the best of our skills.
Thank you for all the people who made Final Fantasy Experience what it is today: our founding leader and officers, all who became part of the FFE Administrative Team, all our competitors, all our critics, and most especially to all our loyal members who sticked with us through thick and thin.
We are not perfect, but we are doing our best to serve this community with all responsibility and loyalty, so I ask for your continued support for all our good works and understanding for our shortcomings.
God bless us all, and long live Final Fantasy Experience, and the rest of the "Experience" unions!

April 2007 - started reviewing in preparation for the 2007 Philippine Bar Examinations
September 2, 9, 16, 23, 2007 (AM and PM) - took the Bar Exam.
March 29, 2008 - results of the Bar Exam released. I made it!

Now, I'm a full-fledged lawyer... At long last!
A dream come true... It's all worth the wait, hardships and sacrifices.
Thanks for all the support! ![]()
Not Popular @ 500 Friends
Tracking and being tracked back (and vice versa) list you (as the person being tracked or tracked back) and the person you are tracking as "Friends" here at GameSpot. Of course, tracking is not needed if you want to be my friend, but it sure helps in maintaining contact and updates between us.
Today, I had my 500th guy in my friends list. Here's the summary of the persons I track/tracks me as of the moment of posting of this entry: ![]()
Friends: 500 | People Tracking Me: 549
I wonder why people tracks me. I am quite a busy guy making me unable to actively track all my friends, which is also the reason I cannot post in your profiles regularly. [The tracked blogs list keeps on getting updated]
Wel, I am very generous in always tracking back people who tracks me. As for those 49 guys/gals who are trackin me, but were not listed in my friends list, I'm sorry. Maybe it was in those times where being "friends" is not through tracking that you followed my profile, or maybe I just failed to see the tracking notification.
Anyway, despite a shoopuf saying I'm quite popular around here
, I honestly think I am not. A lot of people are not even aware of my user name.
Well, to all those who tracked me, thank you for having interest in knowing me or even just following what's happening with me and the unions I am in. I hope to know more of you better. ![]()
If anyone has something to say or as me, feel free to send me a PM. Those who have talked to me know that I always reply in your messages either through PM, Windows Live or in the forums.
That's all for now. Have a nice day! ![]()
I'm Now A Lawyer. A Member Of The Philippine Bar... Almost! Also, I Was Tagged??
FG'S NOW A LAWYER!
Guys, remember when I took a leave of absence here at Gamespot almost exactly a year ago? I left to prepare for somehing so important for me that I do not have the luxury of spending hours and hours of surfing the internet (and fixing my unions) as I used to, and as what I am doing now.
As some of you may have known, I entered law school after completing my first degree in college, and graduated last year. Yeah. I wish to be a lawyer. However, graduating in a law school will not, at least, here in the Philippines, make me a lawyer. In order to be one, I have to pass a qualifying exam known as the dreadful Philippine Bar Examinations.
"The Philippine Bar Examinations is the national licensure exam for admission to the practice of law. It is conducted during the four Sundays of September of every year. It is arguably the hardest and the most media-covered of all government licensure examinations in the country. It is also reputedly one of the hardest bar examinations in the world." [Quoted from Wikipedia]
I left last year (well, technically i did not leave 'coz I made sure that I check my union at least once a week) due to the Bar Examination (BarEx).
The 2007 Philippine BarEx was held on September 2, 9, 16 and 23. One subject each, in the morning (8AM-12PM) and afternoon (2-5PM). In order to pass, an examinee must get an average of 75%, with no subject below 50%. Otherwise, even if you perfect the rest of the 7 subjects, but you get 49.99% and below in at least one subject, you are disqualified and have to retake all the subjects in the next BarEx (if you still have the guts to undergo such horrifying experience... I won't retake it [now that I have passed it] even if you give me all the next-gen consoles and handhelds for free! I'm not crazy enough to bite that offer.).
Last year's BarEx was quite hard. The Chairman of the 2007 BarEx, Philippine Supreme Court Associate Justice Adolfo S. Azcuna, said earlier, in a press statement, that the Supreme Court (SC) find it necessary to reduce the passing average (for last year's BarEx only) to 70% due to the "unusually strict" checking of the papers. (Btw, the papers are checked manually by only one person assigned as the examiner for a particular subject, not by computer because it is hand-written, thus, it is subject to the biases of the examiner-checker--things like bad penmanship and funny English grammar will most likely cost you the entire exam.)
If the usual 75% passing average will be applied, the 2007 BarEx would easily beat the all-time low national passing percentage of 16.59% in 1999 to the bloody pulp. Applying the passing rate of 75%, 2007 BarEx will result into an unconscionable 5% national passing percentage! Since the SC used 70% as the passing average, the national passing percentage went to 22.91%, which is still far lower than the 2006 BarEx national passing of 32.89%.
Anyway, I am one of the blessed few that passed the exams. You can check the official list of the passers HERE. I am no. 846. in alphabetical order (not sorted by grades).
Btw, I just want to defend our batch for those thinking that we're low quality lawyers just because a 70% average was considered to have "passed". We should realize that no less than the SC recognized that the manner in which the papers were checked was "unusually strict", and the fact that in the entire history of the Philippine BarEx, no national passing percentage has gone down below 16.59%. Getting a national passing percentage of only 5% will clearly denote that something went terribly wrong. There are only two parties who may affect this result, eiither the examinees are just dumb poor, or the examiner, through his questions and checking did something terribly $&!%... And I doubt our batch is that horrible that only 5% of us can hit the normal passing average of 75%, knowing that since 1901, all batches get at least 16.59% national passing percentage.
Now, to be a full-fledged lawyer in the Philippines and be eligible to use the title Attorney, a candidate must graduate from a Philippine law school, take and pass the Philippine Bar Examinations, take the Attorney's Oath, and sign his name in the Rolls of Attorneys of the Supreme Court. I have fulfilled the first two requirements (and the hard parts). In two or three weeks time, I'll be taking my oath and will put my signature in the roll of attorneys... After that, I'm really a lawyer! *plays Final Fantasy Victory Theme*
So, with that, I want to say thank you all of for the undying support that you gave me. Give your "Yay!" for FG!
TAGGED???
Honestly, I do not have any idea about this "tagged" thing and almost decided to subtitle it, "WTH IS TAGGED???!", but I was "threatened" by a certain chickobo eater (
) that she will sulk at me if I won't do this game stuff [she told me what to do], so, here it is:
5 Things You Do Not Know About FG...
[I think I have introduced myself well-enough to the community--at least, you've read my past posts here in my blog and in the forums--so, I think I have no other choice, but to give more personal info about myself...
1. I'm ambidextrous.
I can write well with both hands, but I use my left most of the time. Usually, I just use my right if my left is already tired. I can also eat with ease using either hands (with spoon & fork... I still have to learn how to use chopsticks). I can also do armwrestling with eaither hands (but I'm not saying I'm strong enugh to beat all opponents). That's the only extent of my ambidexterity.
2. I particularly love romantic-comedy films.
Aside from my animations and Tom Hanks fanboyism, romantic-comedy films are the ones that really got me hooked in watching movies. Yay for Pretty Woman and My Sassy Girl! I also think that Richard Gere & Julia Roberts is the best love-team in Hollywood film industry.
3. I think I'm ugly.
I honestly think that I'm ugly. Well, mabe, not really ugly, but--I'm just an ordinary-looking guy.
4. All my close friends are ladies.
Don't get me wrong. I have a lot of friends, and guys for that matter, but my closest friends are all ladies. I'm not a chick-magnet, but yeah... I'm surrounded with girls.
5. I haven't had an "official" gf.
Yeah. I had some relationships before, but there is nothing official. I only had one serious relationship, but still, we became "on" in an implied sense... At least, that's what our common friends said. We parted ways almost a year and a half ago.
Because I passed the BarEx, I am feeling generous... I'll give a 6th one [hold your breath ladies...]:
6. I'm STILL a virgin.
Oops! Yeah. At age 25, I'm still a virgin... Well, at least, in the carnal (physical) aspect. I haven't done the "F" word. Some of you may find me naughty, but I think, after all, I'm still conservative. ![]()
That's it!
To whom it may concern: I hope you're pleased now. No more sulking, okay?
Dispute Resolved: FFE, SEE & KHE Shuffle
I have no plans in outspacing my last blog entry, but due to unexpected turn of events, I was compelled to make a new entry to explain to whom it may concern, especially the SEE community.
THE PARTIES
crushgoil, michelle_moraes
THE FACTS
The salient facts of the case at bar (both being undisputed by the parties) are as follows:
-Around September, iirc, of last year, michelle_moraes ("mich" hereunder) notified the SEE community that she will be leaving for some reasons, which were welcomed by the rest of SEE.
-With all the best intentions for SEE to function "as usual" even if she is not around, mich decided to have a system of swapping the union leadership to crushgoil and queen_valentine, "temporarily", while she is not around.
-Fast forward to two months ago... mich returned to SEE
-Yesterday, mich notified crushgoil ("Yuna" hereunder), that the leadership should be given back to her by today.
-Yuna was hesitant thinking that it would subject SEE to uncertainties if mich would leave SEE again in the future.
This morning, when I opened my PMs, I got one message each from both parties explaining their side of the coin. Each sharing their sentiments.
THE ISSUE
Who is the rightful leader of Square Enix Experience (SEE)?
THE ANSWER
michelle_moraes
THE RATIONALE
Here are the reasons how I come up with my answer to the issue:
-Just a little background on the circumstances... When I made SEE, I considered it as a subsidiary of Final Fantasy Experience (FFE), and all rules of FFE will apply to it insofar as it is not contrary to the ToS of Gamespot. mich was picked by me to be the permanent administrator of SEE when I decided to give SEE autonomy from its mother union, FFE.
The Constitution of FFE provides that the administrator of the union shall be claimed only by one who has gotten the trust and confidence of the current administrator who is retiring/resigning or if the current administrator becomes AWOL for a long period of time.
mich, as the administrator, of SEE did not retire or resign as such. She merely transfered the leadership "temporarily" during her absece. She also did not went AWOL for a long period of time 'coz her absence was with notice, well, maybe not with regard to some, but we all go absent in our unions and does not notify anyone all the time, right? Granting she went AWOL, the Gamespot rules in changing leaders who are AWOL does not apply 'coz, iirc, it gives leeway to a union administrator to be AWOL for up to 3 months before he/she can be stripped off of his union leadership. We may think 3 months is too long, but the rules of Gamespot take sprecedence in the rules of unions. And, granting further, that she went AWOL for 3 months, GS requires election in the subject union on who will be thier new permanent leader... This, the SEE community failed to do.
-Both parties agree that the leadership transfer made by mich was only "temporary" in nature.
There could not have been a clearer evidence of the claim of leadership than the uncontested admission of both parties that the nature of the leadership of Yuna is only temporary until mich returns and would want to lead SEE again. It could have been a different story if there had been a negotiation before that if mich would not claim leadership within a specified period of time, Yuna would be the permanent leader.
Yuna raised the "best interest of the union" policy, but I think, it is not applicable in this case 'coz it is clear that mich is serious in leading SEE once again (not just to take it back for the sake of leading a top ranking union), and the track of mich as leader of SEE is good enough to warrant that she can serve for the best interest of the union.
Thus, with the above reasons, I, as founder and adviser of SEE, objectively, am deciding in favor of michelle_moraes. [Note: I decided only on the issue, and not on the person of the parties involved.]
MY AFTERTHOUGHTS
Both mich and Yuna are my friends, and it is hard to be torn between these two pillars of SEE. Their love and dedication for SEE are almost unmatched. They both spent countless hours to ensure that the union would continue to thrive in these days that Gamespot is in a slowdown and most unions are either dying or leaving.
True, I honestly think it is mich who has the legal right (to be understood within the conrext of the ToS and the rules of the union) as leader of SEE, but I am in NO WAY, saying that Yuna was a bad leader, nor is she inferior to mich. I don't think Yuna wanted to claim SEE as "her own". I just honestly think that she loved the union so much, and maybe, got a little emotional in giving back the leadership to someone, who, although she thinks is a superb leader, has gone absent in the union for quite a while. She is sorry for offending mich by his actions, and I sincerely believe that she never meant to offend anyone.
For mich's side, I cannot blame her. She made the leadership swapping thing for all good intentions and purposes, and is confident that when she is ready to be back to lead the union, it will be given back to her. SEE, we all know mich was a god leader. Let us welcome her back with open arms and I know she can prove to us, once again, that she is worthy of our trust and confidence.
I am not looking down at anyone's action or reaction 'coz I know all of those are just results of their passion to ensure that SEE will be a better place for us who support it. Maybe there are differences in ideals, and even in attitude, but at the end of the day, I hope everything will be all right and true reconciliation will start.
CURRENT STATE
Yuna decided to step down as leader of SEE, while mich is still waiting for one last advice. For the meantime, I will be the leader (again) of SEE unless and untill mich decides to step up, or, in the case she decides not to, unless and until a suitable leader is chosen.
Not as a consolation, but as a sign that I value Yuna, not just as a friend, but also as a good union leader, I have chosen her as the new administrator of Kingdom Hearts Experience, a part of the "Experience" brand of unions. Those who will miss her at SEE, you can always see her at KHE.
So, ideally, here is the leadership setup of the "Experiece" unions:
Final Fantasy Experience
[a union dedicated to all things realted to the final fantasy series]
Leader: Fantasy Gamer
Square Enix Experience
[a general square enix union for all things regarding the company and its products/activities]
Leader: michelle_moraes
Kingdom Hearts Experience
[a union dedicated to kh, and all disney and squaresoft coverage]
Leader: crushgoil
There will be officer vacancies at FFE and KHE in the coming days. Those who are interested, please apply at the designated application thread or notify the respective leaders. As for SEE, all current officers remain unless and until mich or a new leader decides.
For FFE, see you all there... as usual.
For SEE, I ask that the officers would step up in these hard times. I know we can get through this.
For KHE, more activities and props are on the way!
FINALE
It is quite a sad thing that all these have happened, but let us all look at the bright side. We can make it through and I hope you keep supporting all our unions.
Long live the "Experience" unions!
Fantasy Gamer
Leader, Final Fantasy Experience (officially endorsed)
Founder, Square Enix Experience
Founder, Kingdom Hearts Experience
UPDATE ( 19 March 2008 ): mich decided not to take back the position to ease the tension amongst everyone involved and is concerned in all these problems. Anyway, for now, I'll take the lead (oh no... two big unions, again) Anyway, I believe things will be all right.
Move on!
An Existing FFVII Remake and FG B-day...
BIRTHDAY...
Hi guys! I'm celebrating my... 25th... birthday today (February 24). I know I'm quite old now, but I'm still very much into gaming and the unions here at Gamespot.
It's been exactly 2 decades (20 years) now since I started gaming. I got my NES system when I was 5 years old and enjoyed a lot of those "hard" games (NES games are some of the hardest in the world). I love Super Mario 3 (I think it is the best NES game). My first RPG is Final Fantasy III, and the first game I've finished is Megaman 3.
I passed up on the SNES era until I got my Playstation in 1996. The PS One days is very memorable to me 'coz that's the time when I fully immersed myself into gaming (I used to play videogames for at least 18 hours a day... no kidding!) and that's the time when games really make me very excited whenever a new one is announced.
SNES games are also great. Well, I only remember playing RPGs in that system. Chrono Trigger rules! Final Fantasy V is also a personal favorite.
The Playstation 2 days resulted into my 250+ PS2 library. You can say it is my favorite system. It easily overtook my PS One library by more than a hundred titles. Everyone is shouting-out-loud with their next-gen systems and games, but I am not affected. I am still enjoying my sturdy PS2 with the same enjoyment I have when I got it in 2003.
Well, I did not get any for my birthday. I am waiting for the proper time to buy my next-gen console... I will be getting the Playstation 3. Although not really as excited as when a new PS1 game is being announed several years ago, I am still very much looking forward for Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII & Versus XIII, Tekken 6 and Resident Evil 5. I am also looking forward to have "Final Fantasy Experience", in the "Home" universe.
FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE...
Some people can no longer wait for Square to take action to the plea of fans to make a Final Fantasy VII remake, prompting one corporation to make one.
A Chinese company successfully made a remake (or should I say, "demake"?) has apparently done what Square couldn't (in the SNES nor in the N64), squeezing the PlayStation epic onto a cartridge... And not just any cartridge... a Famicom (NES) cartridge.
If you're interested for more details, please check: Yikes! An Existing (& Playable) Final Fantasy VII Remake!
UNIONS...
As what I've said above, I'm still very much active with the unions here at Gamespot...
The first union I was a member is the Super Saiyan Elite Union (where I innocently accepted the union invite without any idea what a union is).
The second one is The Final Fantasy Alliance Union (later renamed as The Final Fantasy Union... and much later, was transformed into Square Enix Experience when I took over the union in late 2006)
The third one is The Final Fantasy Experience Union (which I renamed simply as Final Fantasy Experience when I became the leader). FFE, as it is commonly called, virtually is my life in the internet (previously, it is GameFAQs). I rose from the ranks in this union and I had a lot of friends. I am proud in leading it on the way to the top 10, then top 5 (now in top 4, but technically it's top 3 'coz the Headcrab Union has already left Gamespot), and finally winning the Official Gamespot Endorsement (although, currently, the Admins are looking into the glitch that caused the emblem to be missing in our homepage). Also, it started the "Experience" brand of union here at GameSpot.
I also joined the Gamespot-endorsed unions, The Headcrab Union and The Legend of Zelda Union, but later decided to resign 'coz the coverage of those unions are not really my type of games)
I joined the Site Enhancement Union to voice out some of the things I want to be included and /or changed around here, but, unfortunately, the union died with its mother, The Headcrab union)
Recently, I took over Square Enix & Capcom Union (which I transformed into Kingdom Hearts Experience). I'm quite happy that from the 20+ hits per day it gets when I took over, now, hits reach up to 500 per day!)
I'm planning to have more union transformation projects in the future under the "Experience" brand, but for now, I am a little busy to have more unions, not to mention the lack of manpower... I need volunteers to help make more quality unions here at Gamespot!
FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO TALK TO ME OR ASK ME FOR ADVICE OR A QUESTION, FEEL FREE TO PM ME ANYTIME.
You may also contact me via Windows Live Messenger @ cloudstrife_underfire@hotmail.com. Those who know me know that I'm more than a union guy. I'm also a *cough*good*cough* friend.
---
Well, that's all. Wish me well on my birthday and for the future... [FG out].

About 90 of those are RPGs; the rest are combination of action/adventure, fighting games, horror games, few sports games and a handful of 2-player games. You can also name some crappy titles, which I almost omitted in the list. ![]()
Anyway, thank you to all those who gave me those presents... and for the bulk, for my parents who has been financing my gaming needs since I was 5 years old. ![]()
Before I get my own PS3, I think this list will reach up to around 160 games. I still have a lot of PS2 games that I am interested to play.
Btw, if you are planning to buy sone of those games in the list, you may always ask me to tell you my thoughts about those games to help you decided if you will buy it or not. ![]()
Happy 2008!
EDIT (January 07): Just got Growlanser: Heritage of War and Atelier Iris 3: Grand Phantasm... That makes my PS2 games 152!
I already included it in the list.
I'm Back (for real)... and With a New PC!
Hi guys! Finally, I have fixed my own internet connection in my new residence. Now, I'm back for good. Expect the ol' FG around here, especially at Final Fantasy Experience.
Btw, with my new internet connection, I also managed to nab a new PC. Here are some of it's specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz, 1333 FSB, 4 MB cache processor
ASUS PSS-MX SE LGA775 Dual Core2 motherboard
1 GB DDR2 memory
Samsung 160 GB SATA, 7200RPM 8 MB hard disc
Inno3D GeForce 7300GT 512 MB PCI-E, 128 bits with TV, DVI video card
Samsung SyncMaster 920NW 19" Black Widescreen LCD monitor
Windows Vista Ultimate
Maybe it is not as good as your PC, but come on! This is my first gaming quality PC. I'm so happy!I'm still adapting myself to the new Vista engine. XP is far simpler. Vista takes more than 50% of my 1 GB DDR2... I'm thinking of trying the dualboot Vista-XP system (I'm a little confused as to how to do it... I'm afraid I might mess up the destroy my current OS.)
Also, I haven't bought a single videogame since May. I just bought Dawn of Mana, Persona 3 and Wild Arms 5. Dawn of Mana is quite good, xept for the camera. Gotta love it, specially for me who has followed the Seiken Densetsu series since the GameBoy days. Persona 3 is very good. It lived up to the fashio of the Persona sub-series of the MegaTen series, while managing to add some nice features like a lot of decision-making. Wild Arms 5 continues the the Hex-Grid battle system from Wild Arms 4. Expect the same puzzle and dungeon-crawling goodness we all loved from the Wild Arms series. I still have a lot in my buy list:
GrimGrimoire
Soul Nomad
Growlanser: Heritage of War
I don't know what other PS2 RPGs have I missed...
Well, maybe, that's all I can say regarding my come back. See you around.
Leader of FFE: 2nd Anniversary Edition
September 10, 2005 - September 10, 2007. Whooh! It's been 2 years since I was entrusted the sacred obligation to lead our humble union!
I'm glad I'm still alive!
Many things happened in the past two years... I was forced
to join GameSpot... I was recruited at FFE... I innocently joined the union... I became an FFE Officer few weeks later...Chosen to be the 2nd leader of Final Fantasy Experience (FFE) 3 months later... Survived the plague that was "GS Union Overhaul Ver. 1" that killed a lot of unions... A lot of union/officer-related wars involving FFE
... Gained a lot of friends... A LOT of PMs everyday... Able to lead FFE to gain the "Official Endorsement" by GameSpot... Recipient of the "Outstanding Union Leader Award" by the GameSpot Union Awards... Able to take over the previously FFE toe-to-toe competitor union, FFA (aka FFU).. Transformed it into a general SE union and named it after FFE, the Square Enix Experience (SEE)... Leading 2 of the 5 top unions here at GS (FFE and SEE)... Busy, busy life have to let someother to manage the affairs of SEE... Scouted for my successor... Remembered a "formerly" not-that-popular (now she's one big leader... like me ![]()
but more popular) friend at FFE, but VERY talented and kind... Chose michelle_moraes as my successor to lead SEE... I'm so proud of her. She never failed me. Thanks mich... Went on-leave to focus on my Bar Examination... Assigned buddy Tommy as acting leader of FFE... I wonder why he was banned (too harsh a penalty for his violation)... Present...
Join me as I celebrate my 2nd year as leader of GameSpot's prime RPG (specifically FF series) union, FFE. It's been a glorious experience for me. Thanks for all the support guys! Special thanks (as always) to mgatson (FFE's founding leader) for the full trust and confidence he has given me, as well as to all my friends and buddies there at FFE at SEE... ![]()
Be back soon...
2 Years As Officer @ FFE
As an officer in general, not as a leader. (July 08, 2005 - July 08, 2007)
It's been two years since I took an active part in running the Final Fantasy Experience. Much appreciation to all the friends who supported me all these years... Especially to 'that' guy who never hesitated to entrust me with this great obligation. THANK YOU ALL! ![]()
