Backlog

With all the great new games coming out these days, it's hard to sit down and play the older games from past generations (or hell, even from this one) when most of my gaming time is spent on the latest and greatest thing. Plus it doesn't help I have other interests besides games, and of course work always gets in the way. What follows is a list of all the games I own that I have either: A) never finished, B) never started playing or C) never even opened. Feel free to post your comments on the games that I have never played or are still sealed. I'll do my best to explain why I haven't played these games. Also, go ahead and post your backlog list if you have one. Now if you'll excuse me, I have several games I need to get back to playing. None of which are on this list! LOL

Damn, son, that is one hell of a list! My backlog can be seen on backloggery.com.

Eternal Sonata - I have it on PS3, but I haven't started it yet, either.

WarTech: Senko no Ronde - Loved that game when I had a 360. The only people I was able to play against online were some Japanese who were still playing the game when it came here.

Ridge Racer 64 - Was never a fan of this, I actually liked the original RR on PS1 more.

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain - I haven't started this either even though I finished the sequel Soul Reaver.

Capcom CIassics Collection 1 and 2 - Yes, I have finished most of the games on both of these.

God Hand - My favorite beat-'em-up ever!

Soul Calibur III - Still sealed, huh? Probably for the best.

MGS4 - I have never been much of a fan of the MGS series, but I took a chance with this one and it turned me into a fan!

Daxter - I just started this recently.

I noticed you have a ton of Super Robot Taisen games! All I have are the two for GBA that were released in North America.

This makes my backlog look like nothing, but even so mine is about as big as I'd want it to get... I'm having a hard enough time keeping up as it is. If I had your list I think I'd just give up hope of ever trying to finish it.

I'd be amazed if you could beat Super R-Type and/or U.N. Squadron. Those games are too difficult for me which is why I prefer Gradius III.

I've gotten to Dracula in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, but I've yet to be able to beat the final form. Attacks from off-screen are never cool.

I'd also like to know anybody that's beat all of the games on any of those large compilations like Capcom Classics Collection, Taito Legends, or Sega Genesis Collection.

I never keep games sealed even if I don't play them right away. I found out why I do this when the one time I left Avatar: The Last Airbender for PSP sealed for about a week. I opened it to find that the case was cracked quite badly and it wasn't noticeable from the outside. Luckily I was able to return it for a replacement copy.

Wow man, O_o just wow, I don't even know where to begin. If anything my backlog is what keeps me from buying a 360, PS3 or Wii. I've made the personal commitment not to buy any new gaming hardware until I'm done with all my last gen games and that means finishing each and every one of them. Here is my advise:

1. Sell the "not so great games" like BloodRayne NFS: Carbon or Rumble Roses XX, etc, just to name a few. Those games are really non essential experiences for a gamer and I think you could do without them just fine.

2. If you start a game, you must finish it. It is a personal rule I have and it has allowed me to push through tons of long, tough games. Sometimes I've had to stop playing for a while to later retake them where I left off but I always get to see the end credits. (I just finished Persona 3, took me 133hrs in a span of 3 months but it is done.)

3. You are only allowed to play one game per system: Yes, you can play multiple games at once but you are not allowed to play two games of the same system at once.

4. You are not allowed to buy the sequel of a game you already own if you haven't finished it. Super Robot Taisen and Rainbow Six are examples of this.

Other than that, I guess some common sense and moderation at the moment of purchasing games would be advisable, cause DAMN!

@usagi704: I have a backloggery profile as well but I don't really understand how to use the site (or the purpose of it) and I don't like the way it looks/functions.

I want the PS3 version of Eternal Sonata because of the extra stuff they added.

Got WarTech for less than $10 at Best Buy. Looks kinda interesting.

The only reason I have Ridge Racer 64 is because Optimus Prime makes a cameo appearance! lol You can see a semi truck driving across a bridge that looks exactly like Optimus Prime's vehicle mode. I doubt it's actually him but I remember reading about this in a magazine back in the day and I just HAD to have this game because of it. lol I do like Ridge Racer though, but this one doesn't seem so great. (R4 is my favorite of the series).

I hear Blood Omen is good so that's why I got it. It was $1 at a garage sale.

God Hand is certainly unique but its harder than I thought it'd be. Got it for like $20.

I hear Soul Calibur III is not so hot. I suppose there's really no point in playing it since those new characters are in SCIV, right?

MGS4 is one of those games that I simply MUST play. I need to finish MGS3 first though!

Yeah, I'm a big anime fan so I'm drawn to the Super Robot Wars games (I also enjoy strategy/rpgs). I've finished the 2 released on GBA here and then SRW: W on DS. The problem with these games is the language barrier, and they also take a long time to finish since a single battle can last 30 minutes (or more!).

@hart704: It is probably a good idea to open my sealed games and make sure they are not defective, but they lose some value if I ever needed to sell them (thinking about selling stuff for my wedding in January of 2011!) I've been pretty lucky over the years though. I can't recall a time that a sealed game/dvd had a defective disc. *knock on wood*

R-Type is hard as hell, but UN Squadron is much easier IMO. At least I feel like I've made some progress there. Plus its a lot of fun and the planes are cool! I'll have to try Gradius III on PSP.

I got stuck somewhere in Circle of the Moon and kinda forgot about it when the next GBA game came out.

Apparently your budy Usagi has finished most of the games on the Capcom C|assics collections, go talk to him! lol

@SciFiCat: I'm sorry but I can't allow myself to ignore the current generation of games even though I have tons of "old" games I have not finished. I admire your efforts to play all the games you own, but I can't force myself to obey a rule system so strict as the one you listed.

Just because a game is "not so great" doesn't mean I don't like it. I don't want to ever feel like I'm forcing myself to finish a game. "Pushing through games" just doesn't sound like any fun, and that's why we are all here. To have fun! I basically only play one game per system anyway. Just finished 1st playthrough of Borderlands, now playing Dragon Age. As far as the sequels go, I wouldn't play a game out of order but I'm still going to buy a sequel to a game I already own if I find it for super cheap! I will not pass up a good deal and that's why most of these games are on this list. (Also, most of the Super Robot Wars games aren't sequels. [Kind a like how all the Final Fantasy games are not related] And for Rainbow Six, I debated even putting them on this list. Those games came in a big lot of Xbox games I won on Ebay. I could care less about them and will never play them. I will definitely be selling them.

I think I've become more of a collector than a "gamer" in the past few years. Out of all these games on my list, only a handful have been purchased at full price. I buy most of my games on sale or on clearance (or used in some cases).

Thanks for the comments!

God Hand was marketed at the time as a pretty hardcore game and yeah, I'd say it is quite difficult. Makes it so you can't win by just mashing buttons like in a lot of the games in the genre.

As far as I know all of the new characters from SC3 are in SC4, but I don't own it and have never played it.

@Gigastormz: I was thinking specifically about Gradius III on the SNES, but I heard that the one you referred to is great as well.

Ha! @usagi704 only wishes he's aced a whole compilation.
Posted 11/09/2009 2:37pm
@hart704, you got something to say to me, boy?
Posted 11/09/2009 6:11pm
That explains a lot, I too can't pass up an opportunity to pick up a good game at a great price but sometimes the thought of owning a game that I might end up not playing, well that really sinks my heart. I still very much have fun playing games, but I give an honest effort into finishing them because I'm rather someone that likes to finish something that I've already started. Sorry if I came on too strong with my rule set, it was just a suggestion to help you out, but you are free to do with your backlog as you please since it is yours after all. As for current gen, I have no hurry getting into it because I've learned that I can always get the games I want later down the line. Good luck with your gaming!

I'm a music freak and I listen to almost nothing but heavy metal. My favorite video game genre is RPGs but I will play anything else except sports and "urban" themed games. I started playing games back in the Atari 2600/NES days. My first game experience was playing Defender, Joust and Pitfall on Atari at my cousin's place. Soon after we got an NES and I was hooked on video games. In the early 90s I saved up money by mowing lawns and bought a Sega Genesis. I was a SEGA kid. I never got an SNES until the last days of the system when they released the redesigned crappy lightweight version. I've never really been a fan of Mario, I always liked Sonic more. Currently I have all major home consoles and hand helds except a Wii. I work in the land title insurance field as a typist. I was previously employed by Toys R Us, KB Toys and Suncoast.
