I Love My Kids, But....

I do love all my kids but they really can give me gray hairs. I always dread opening the Cingular bill. How can someone make 1, 900 phone calls in a month?? Taking the phone away is always fun, Not...Then one says his stomach hurts , has hurt for a month and thinks he has stomach cancer. Ugh! Maybe lay off the Chipotle and Burger King? I want to take him to the doctor but have only one day off left before my new job. And I have to get my car fixed since a lady backed into it. Hey, at least she sent me a check! Nice honest lady.... Why couldn't he tell me this about the pain a few weeks ago?? Anyway, one is going to be a senior in college. He let his drivers license lapse. Great. OK, so he rides his bike every where. He gets into an arguement with a cabbie, who I guess almost ran into him. The cabbie's fault, but why get the cabbie mad who is bigger than you and likes to get out of the cab and come after you and try to pound you? Plus, my son has on...NO HELMET!! Ach...gray hairs sprout like weeds...My friend, Robert, on our JAG site is just now seeing his last child move out after 25 years. I am very envious. Of course even when you are not responsible for them you still worry. But the listening for the door at night, or , is the call I answer going to be that he wrecked the car?, or are they having sex while I am at work? stuff like that will go away at least . As I have said before, all you can do is pray and love them, but the lying awake at 4:00 am is tiresome, just worrying. Can anyone out there relate?

I Got The Job-Yay!!!

I got the job I interviewed for. I had a lot of good input from a friend who put in a good word, I think that was what clinched it. Boy I really owe her! I start on the 7th and am nervous. First of all I have nothing to wear! I have not been in a business for many years where I needed to wear more than jeans and a T-shirt. So I guess I will have to go buy some suitable clothes.  I also will have to do more on computers and learn a new system. I hope I am not a total idiot about it. Today I gave 2 weeks notice to my current boss and I was very agitated at the thought of it. But it went pretty well and I think we can part on good terms and I'll keep the door open. I will also need to commute further and figure out what work schedule I want. With traffic being so bad here I hope to go in early and get home early. Will have to let you know if I survive.

It's Good to be Home on US Soil!

We got back from Germany and what a PAIN going through immigration and customs!! I am sick of forms and passports and removal of shoes! This German lady wanded me so hard that it hurt. Guess she was looking for weapons in my bra or something! I wanted to hit her. We had our flight cancelled out of Newwark and had to spend the night at a Ho-Jos. I don't recommend the restaurant there!

Germany was awesome. We were there of course for the World Cup and that added some extra excitement watching all the fans cramming the streetcars with their different jerseys and hair paint. We watched on some TVs there and once when Germany won we were with friends in Fulda and we helped them celebrate with some good local beer!

We got very lost a few times, especially in Belgium! But we loved the old town of Mechelen, the original capital of the Nertherlands before Belgium and Holland split. Seeing 13th century buildings kind of boggles the mind. I liked driving the rental car, a new Passat wagon, but going 140 Km/hr was a bit daunting, even for someone who has to drive in DC.

Our last stop was Holland and we visited with friends. Great people and so hospitable and fun. Amsterdam was nice, but the red light district was a bit much to take for this somewhat conservative woman. I really felt bad for those women. I enjoyed more the small town of Leiden and Katwijk on the North Sea where we had one cold swim.

But we all had so much fun. One of the best parts of our trip for me was the ride along the Rhine river and the visit to a castle which had secret passageways and a tower. Seeing the first house I lived in in Weisbaden was cool, although I don't remember it. My favorite city was Rothenburg on the Tauber, a very old gothic and baroque walled city in Bavaria. The pastries were to die for. My camera could not capture the beauty. I think for my son, his favorite part was the old monastary and beer garden up in the hills of Kreutzberg. The ice cold local beer in the huge beer steins with various sausage, sauerkraut, gorken salat and roasted pork shanks was so perfect.

I hope to get pictures soon. I had a great time but it's always good to be home!

X&Y

When I heard that X & Y was coming out I ordered it right away. After Rush of Blood to the head I was anticipating a great album. It took several times to listen to start to appreciate the songs. So I was very surprised that some people panned it. There are a few boring songs but I don't know too many albums that don't have the "Eh" songs. The poetry on the songs is great. "Fix You" is a beautiful piece that I saw beautifully used in one of those cop shows. Very moving. "Speed of Sound" is a joyride, although I'm not sure yet what it's about. "Message" has some great parts to it, as does the plaintiff "Hardest Part". I recommend this album and I know it will grow on you also.

Secret Story is a lush collection of songs that really grow on you. Each song has its own beauty and evoke really good feelings. I love to play it in the car if I am going on a road trip, or if I'm doing house work or painting, it is a great CD. A lot of the songs are just very exciting or very romantic. I highly recommend it.
